I know Chernow is at the height of his fame and powers, but do you think he can top what Ronald C. White has achieved with American Ulysses?

how can a person read a 1100 page book in 1 day? this book came out on Oct. 10th. there are reviews that i seen posted on Oct. 10th or even before.

Does this book mention that Dad Jesse once apprenticed at Daddy John Brownâ€™s tannery? Iâ€™ve read AND listened to this book and donâ€™t recall this being mentioned. Iâ€™m now reading Grants Memoirs, and he mentions it and itâ€™s also on John Brownâ€™s wiki page (which I know is NOT 100% accurate).

Duane Yes, the association with John Brown was mentioned very early in the book.

I enjoyed the audio version very much. The narrator did a tremendous job. If someone with a hard copy might find a quote for me, I'd appreciate it. At the very end, Chernow summarizes Lincoln and Grant's roles in the Civil War, it was just one line, maybe something like "Lincoln freed the slaves, Grant humanized them."?

I am about to start reading Grant. I am a serious student of Civil War history, leadership styles and the role of luck. Is this book worth the time?
