As to where the virus comes from she literally has a character say "we'll probably never know."

I finished it and realized about 75% of the way through that I should stop because I frankly didn't care if they made it home, got caught by the cops, caught by Billie or anything else.

I was so close, I plowed through hoping for a surprise uptick at the end, but in fact, the last 30 pages are probably the weakest in the book. I frankly do not understand the good reviews for this. The premise was interesting but it was buried under the unnecessary triple-POV/semi-flashback style. (less)
