Is it called Motherland or Afterland? The book cover says Motherland, but everything else on here seems to be labeled Afterland.

I'm just a few chapters in to this story and what has been revealed so far is that Cole has stolen her son from a camp where he was protected and prized as one of the few remaining males to take him on a dangerous journey where they might both die. How does this make sense? Her son was very safe in the camp. Her action seems really selfish and risky. Does some better motivation become clear later in the story?

Does this book ever reveal how the whole thing started? I’m halfway through, and although the concept was interesting, the piecemeal “reveal� has become a drudgery. It’s one long chase scene. Is it worth finishing?

As to where the virus comes from she literally has a character say "we'll probably never know."

I finished it and realized about 75% of the way through that I should stop because I frankly didn't care if they made it home, got caught by the cops, caught by Billie or anything else.

I was so close, I plowed through hoping for a surprise uptick at the end, but in fact, the last 30 pages are probably the weakest in the book. I frankly do not understand the good reviews for this. The premise was interesting but it was buried under the unnecessary triple-POV/semi-flashback style. (less)
