Reading multiple chapters about a 13 yo girl and what dress she can and can't wear and when she can wear jewelry is just tedious. Does this banality continue throughout the series? Need to know whether to continue to press forward or set these aside, thank you.

The development of her character is one of my great joys in the next 2 books. Then again, I loved the first book wholeheartedly but accept that I cannot like all the characters ... just like in real life.(less)

Would this be suitable for my 10 year old to read? His reading level is very advanced so i am not worried about the reading difficulty. I am concerned about adult themes,;minor swearing and violence is ok but graphic sex or violence etc not good. Any thoughts?

Robin Hobb writes about heavy issues and somewhat depressing topics. These are books that even adults have a hard time dealing with. She is an excellent writer, but these are not "feel-good" books by any means.(less)

i just finished farseer triology, i was wondering should i read liveship triology first or tawny man ? just because i think it will be more like continuation of story right? i heard this doesnt include fitz or other characters from first series.. please suggest!! thanks

Darceylaine I jumped right to the Tawny Man series, as I was eager to continue that story, and didn't have any trouble keeping up. The Liveship series only contai…尘辞谤别I jumped right to the Tawny Man series, as I was eager to continue that story, and didn't have any trouble keeping up. The Liveship series only contains one overlapping character as I can tell so far, and is peripheral to the Fitz story, but there are a few spoilers about the unfolding of politics of these countries present in the Tawny Man series.(less)

So, I have purchased this novel some time ago fully knowing it's a trilogy. However, what I didn't know yet is that this takes place in ''The Realm of the Elderlings'' and this is the second trilogy taking place in that world. Do I need to read the first trilogy (starting with Assasins apprentice) first in order to enjoy and/or understand this one? Or can I just read it after this one?

The latter follows different characters (except one whose identity however is not revealed explicitly until the Tawny Man trilogy) and take place in different parts of this world. Liveship has small mentiones of the events of the Farseer books, so it can give the reader wider context, but you don't need to know about these events to understand the plot.(less)
