Why do the characters use such a language like "thou, thee, art"?

Elwood Bergman Spanish, as many other languages, has retained informal pronouns which we have lost in English. "Thee" and "thou" used to be informal words, only usedâ€¦m´Ç°ù±ðSpanish, as many other languages, has retained informal pronouns which we have lost in English. "Thee" and "thou" used to be informal words, only used to address friends and younger people. It is our equivalent to tÃº, as opposed to usted. Part of what makes this great literature, I think, is that he gives a sense of how this culture can be both formal and familiar at the same time. Hemingway also does this in his use of heavily censored, but abundant expletives. It wouldn't have been the same if he wrote it any other way.(less)

Thtk1 Read this for my 1st book report in the 3rd grade. Just read it again and was amazed that 58 years later I remembered it almost word per word,

Stu I've read this book, 'The Sun Also Rises', 'The Old Man and the Sea', and 'A Farewell to Arms'. This is my favorite by a large margin, even though I'vâ€¦m´Ç°ù±ðI've read this book, 'The Sun Also Rises', 'The Old Man and the Sea', and 'A Farewell to Arms'. This is my favorite by a large margin, even though I've taught 'The Old Man and the Sea' numerous times as an example of direct language. By my limited reckoning, 'The Sun Also Rises' is Hemingway's masterpiece.(less)

Sophie depends on if you read classics often or not; for me it was difficult because iâ€™m used to more modern language, and this was a bit dense at times. it â€¦m´Ç°ù±ðdepends on if you read classics often or not; for me it was difficult because iâ€™m used to more modern language, and this was a bit dense at times. it took more focus than what is required in modern literature. however, just like the other person said, it was well worth it!!(less)
