So if you're expecting sunshine and roses then no, you probably shouldn't bother to read the rest of the book. But if you're willing to contemplate the human condition in the worst of circumstances then give it a go.(less)

There's mention of a flash in the sky back when the man and wife still lived in a house/apartment, and he realizes it is something huge and immediately fills the bathtub for a water supply. Dark skies, ash, and global cooling are the theorized results of widespread nuclear war (less)
