If you are someone who is confused about setting your goal, this book will be the perfect choice to read. Brian Tracy discusses in-depth about setting your goal and enlists 12 steps for the same. He doesn't stop after telling us how to set our goals; he also tells us how to achieve them through our attitude, character, and confidence.
鈥淎 goal, however, is something distinctly different from a wish. It is clear, written, and specific. It can be quickly and easily described to another person. You can measure it, and you know when you have achieved it or not."

I started reading this book because my mom suggested it. She thought it would be a good book to get me to set good new years resolutions. To be honest, even though this book probably isn鈥檛 meant for a 13-year-old kid, it was actually really interesting. The plot of the book; well there really wasn鈥檛 a specifically set plot. The book started out with him talking about how he changed his life and how we can all change our life鈥檚 if we set reasonable goals. The book also goes over key points on what type of background one needs and what type of steps one should take to be successful in life. A knowledgeable quote from this book would be, 鈥淔ailure is merely an opportunity to more intelligently begin again.鈥欌€ I think that he is trying to say that if someone fails at something it shouldn鈥檛 be a set down, but an opportunity to not make the same mistake. Something that I thought was unique about the authors writing style is that he makes the book feel like it is written for me. I would recommend this book to adults who want to learn the skill of goal setting or adults who want to get their life鈥檚 back on track.

I'm not a business person. In fact I'm the opposite of that right now -- a stay-at-home mom. I was skeptical of this book when it was recommended to me because I don't need to "double my income" (twice of nothing is still nothing!) After reading it I see that it is a practical resource for readjusting my focus and my attitude. I am interested in regaining purpose in my day-to-day life. This book really helps with that.

Who knows, someday I will be back in the money-making game and this book will have a place in that life too. For now, it's helped me clear away some fog that comes with my job description. I'm much happier and focused on getting things done (like laundry... don't laugh, but sometimes you just have to get that stuff done!) It has cleared some cobwebs and allowed me to make the most of each day with my husband, kids, house, everything. There is a lot to learn here. I will be re-reading this book.

Reading Tracy is like walking through a field of flowers, and every now and then ducking that glorious, exhilarating butterfly. After enough of his books, even the prettiest of flowers might cease to impress, but those butterflies! I've included both:

Notes :
-------

"When you are absolutely clear about your goal, you do not even have to know where it is or how to achieve it. By simply deciding exactly what you want, you will begin to move unerringly toward your goal and your goal will start to move unerringly toward you. At exactly the right time and in exactly the right place, you and your goal will meet."

"... You must determine the price that you will have to pay to achieve it and then get busy paying that price."

"... Choose your boss with care."

"... There is a direct relationship between the amount of responsibility you take and the amount of control that you feel... The more responsibility you accept, the happier you become."

"See yourself as the president of your own company. How would you act differently if you owned 100% of the shares?"

"You will become as small as your controlling desire, as great as your dominant aspiration." - James Allen

"The further you think into the future, the better decisions you will make in the present to assure that the future becomes a reality."

鈥溾€ You dream big dreams, and project forward mentally as though you are one of the most powerful people in the universe. You create your perfect future.鈥

鈥淯nsuccessful people always wonder whether or not a particular goal is possible. High achievers, on the other hand, ask only the question 鈥楬ow?鈥 "

鈥淩emember, the very best days of your life lay ahead.鈥

鈥淚f you expect good things to happen to you, you will be positive, cheerful and future-oriented.鈥

鈥淢en and women begin to become great when they begin to listen to their inner voices and absolutely trust that they are being guided by a higher power each step of the way.鈥

鈥淲hat would you have to begin doing today in order to create the kind of reputation that you desire?鈥

鈥淗ere is what psychologists have discovered : the more your behavior in the moment is consistent with what you feel your ideal behavior should be, the more you like and respect yourself and the happier you are.鈥

鈥淥nce you have decided that you are going to live consistent with a value, your level of integrity determines whether or not you follow through on your commitment. And the higher your level of integrity, the happier and more powerful you all feel in everything you do.鈥

鈥淒ecide today to be a man or woman of honor.鈥

鈥溾€ Simplify the solution and go directly to the goal as quickly as possible.鈥

鈥淭he highest paid salespeople鈥 organize their days efficiently to assure that they spend more minutes in the presence of people who can and will buy their products and services.鈥

鈥溾€ We teach our clients to identify those 20% of activities that contribute the most value and then do twice as many of them.鈥

鈥淭he amazing discovery you will make is that within 30 days after writing out this list of 100 dreams, remarkable events will begin to happen in your life and your goals will start to be achieved at a rate that you cannot even imagine today.鈥

鈥溾€ If you could do just one thing all day long in your work, what would it be?鈥

鈥淭homas Edison was expelled from school in the 6th grade.鈥

鈥淚magine that there was a 鈥楤elief Store鈥, very much like a computer software store, where you could purchase a belief to program into your subconscious mind. If you could choose any set of beliefs at all, which beliefs would be most helpful to you?鈥

鈥淪uccessful people look for the good in every situation. They know that it is always there鈥 They expect to get something good out of everything that happens to them.鈥

鈥淵ou act as if you have a secret guarantee of success and only you know about it.鈥

鈥淚f you were one of the most competent and highly respected people in your field, how would you think, act, and feel鈥 ?鈥

鈥淪elect a belief you that you would most like to have about yourself at a deep inner level. Pretend as if you already believe this to be true about yourself.鈥

鈥淚magine you were going to take a long trip across the country鈥 Each day before you started out, you would locate yourself on a map relative to where you were and where you planned to go in the hours ahead. Life is very much the same.鈥

鈥淭he high performer thinks in terms of an hourly rate鈥︹€

鈥淵our weakest key skill sets the height at which you can use all your other skills and determines your income鈥︹€

鈥淣ever allow yourself to feel locked in or trapped by a particular decision from the past. Keep focused on the future.鈥

鈥淭he more clear and specific the measures you set, the more accurate you will be in hitting your targets on schedule. Your subconscious mind requires a 鈥榝orcing system鈥 composed of deadlines that you have imposed on yourself for task accomplishment鈥 There is an enormous difference between doing 95% of a task and doing 100%鈥︹€

鈥淓very time you complete a task of any kind, your brain releases a small quantity of endorphins. This natural morphine gives you a sense of well-being and elation鈥 The more important the task you complete is, the greater is the quantity of endorphins鈥 very much like a reward for success and achievement鈥. It is almost as if nature rewards you for everything that you do that is positive and life-enhancing.鈥

鈥淎 goal or a decision without a deadline is merely a discussion. It has no energy behind it.鈥

鈥淢ake it a game with yourself to set benchmarks, measures, scorecards, targets, and deadlines for every goal, and then focus on those numbers and dates. The goals will take care of themselves.鈥

鈥淭he fact is that successful people fail far more often than unsuccessful people.鈥

鈥淎s you get better and faster at solving problems, you will attract even bigger and more expensive problems to solve. Eventually you will be solving problems that can have significant financial consequences for you and others. This is the way the world works.鈥

鈥淭he two major obstacles to success and achievement are fear and doubt鈥 Fortunately, if there is anything good about doubt and fear, it is that they are both learned emotions. Have you ever seen a negative baby?鈥

鈥溾€ By setting small goals, making plans, and working on them each day鈥 your courage and confidence will grow and become the dominant force in your thinking. Eventually, with a record of successes behind you, it won鈥檛 be long before you become unstoppable.鈥

鈥淲hatever the problem, define it several ways before you attempt to solve it. Beware of any problem for which there is only one definition, or only one solution鈥 You could do this by asking, 鈥榃hat else could be the problem?鈥欌€ Whichever of these obstacles turns out to be the correct problem will require a completely different course of action to solve it.鈥

鈥淜eep drilling deeper.鈥

鈥淒iscipline yourself to work on your boss鈥檚 top task all day long. Make sure that whenever your boss sees you or talks to you, you are working on what he or she has told you is his or her top priority for you.鈥

鈥淎s conditions settle, keep the lines of communication open with your boss鈥 Then make a game of doing it fast. Nothing makes a boss happier than to have someone who gets the job done quickly. Be sure that you are that person.鈥

鈥淪ometimes, I will make a phone call or write a letter to an executive who has just done something noteworthy that was reported in the business press. Often, I don鈥檛 get through or make direct contact. But I continue to sow seeds鈥 Eventually, I will meet key people socially or in business and they will remember that I dropped them a letter a week, a month, or even a year ago.鈥

鈥溾€ The simplest strategy is to treat everyone you meet, at home or at work, like a million dollar customer.鈥

鈥淭he plans were useless, but the planning was indispensable.鈥 - Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, after the invasion of Normandy in World War II

鈥淵ou need to be absolutely clear, at any given moment, exactly what is most important to you at that time.鈥

鈥淭he fact is that you can鈥檛 manage time, you can only manage yourself. That is why time management requires self-discipline, self-control, and self-mastery.鈥

鈥淕et started, get going, and work fast.鈥

鈥淵ou must absolutely know and believe in the depths of your being that you are going to be successful at achieving a particular goal.鈥

鈥淲hen your subconscious mind receives a command that begins with the word 鈥業鈥, it is as though the factory floor receives a production order from the head office. It gets to work immediately to bring that goal into your reality.鈥

鈥淵ou may have the idea in your conscious mind, but you will not have yet developed the total belief and conviction that it is possible for you. This is normal and natural. Don鈥檛 let it stop you鈥︹€

鈥淲hen you rewrite and review your goals in the evening鈥 your subconscious mind then has an opportunity to work on your goals all night long while you are sleeping.鈥

鈥溾€orry is a form of negative goal-setting.鈥

鈥淵our superconscious mind operates best when you are in a mental state of calm, confident, relaxed expectation.鈥

鈥溾€he harder that you don鈥檛 try, the faster your superconscious mind will work for you.鈥

鈥淭he only real question you should be asking about what you are doing is 鈥楧oes it work?鈥 Is it achieving the end results desired?鈥 鈥

鈥淏eing in business today is like playing an endless game of leapfrog. You look for a way to leapfrog over your competitor and serve your customers better, faster, and cheaper.鈥

鈥淭he rule is 鈥榃hatever works is already obsolete.鈥

鈥淪uccess in any area can quickly breed complacency and a reluctance to change in response to the new realities of the marketplace. Don鈥檛 let this happen to you.鈥

鈥淚n a time of rapid change, resolve to be the first to recognize and embrace change when it occurs.鈥

鈥淵ou must be patient and determined. It will come.鈥

鈥淭he fact is that life is a continuous succession of problems and difficulties without end. This river of problems is only interrupted by the occasional crisis, which makes the problems seem small in comparison.鈥

鈥淚n studying warfares and battles鈥 the numerically smaller force was far better organized, more methodical, and more orderly in its plan of attack and execution than the larger, more disorganized force.鈥

鈥淏e prepared for your opportunity.鈥

鈥淭he rising sun has never caught me in bed in my entire life.鈥 - Thomas Jefferson

鈥淎s we know, the root source of fear is childhood conditioning, usually destructive criticism from one or both parents.鈥

鈥淧ractice makes permanent.鈥

Corridor principle : 鈥淎s these individuals moved forward toward their goals, as though proceeding down a corridor, doors opened to them that they would not have seen if they had not been in forward motion.鈥

鈥淭he future belongs to the risk-takers, not the security seekers. Life is perverse in the sense that the more you seek security, the less of it you have. But the more you seek opportunity, the more likely it is that you will achieve the security that you desire.鈥

鈥淲hatever you dwell upon grows - so be careful.鈥

鈥淲ith a commitment to acquire the habit of courage, you will eventually reach the point where your fears no longer play a major role in your decision-making.鈥

鈥淭here are two essential requirements for success. The first is 鈥榞et-to-it-iveness鈥 and the second is 鈥榮tick-to-it-iveness.鈥 " - Orison Swett Marden

A very powerful and inspirational read!

Goals! offers you practical pieces of advice on establishing what it is that you really want and how to get it.

Brian Tracy emphasizes on the importance of setting goals the correct way. All you have to do is set a realistic goal, make a clear practical plan, and get busy doing what needs to be done to make it happen.

You see, if you really want to achieve your goals; you have got to internalize them, you have to make them a part of you and your life. By doing so, your subconscious will move you towards them.

In this book you will learn things about yourself that you did not pay attention to before, you will discover the reasons why you are unhappy with yourself and your life, you will uncover what you are doing wrong, it will offer you tips to unlock your inner potential and taking charge over your life, and helping you to live as the best version of yourself.

I really needed to read this one, it definitely helped me realize what I was doing wrong.

Recommended to everyone.

Imagine a book that takes the most basic advice on goal setting and interweaves that with pop-psychology and fails to grapple with reality and you will have imagined this book.
If you are looking for a good book about goal setting that grapples with reality, read David Allen's Making It All Work. He has a great chapter on goal setting which also includes advice on transforming your goals into reality.
Skip Brian Tracy's work on Goals.

It took me about six months to get through this book. Not because it was boring or a tough read. I believe a book like this needs to be read when your mind is ready to accept it.

Tracy talks about how your mind can postpone certain events in your life. To me, my mind held me up for a while, but certain events occurred in my life that bolted me past the hurdles.

I have been using the techniques laid out in this book, and I already feel myself focusing on the things that are most important to me. It truly is like a magic wand has lifted a cloud, and I can see what is possible for me in the future.

I know this sounds pretty weird, but if you read this book and act upon it, you will understand what I'm talking about. -24Jun2013, Smojohn

In this simple book, Brian Tracy offers his suggestions to set up goals and helps the reader in deciding on what he truly wants.
According to Tracy, a positive mindset, proper time management and a willingness to keep failing until you get it right is the key to success.

This book did not live up to the hype for me. It takes one view of life and promotes it as THE way using just enough science and research to make it sound authoritative. If all you want out of life is money and accomplishment, and one of your primary character strengths is perseverance, then this book will probably be helpful and inspiring, even though it has plenty of things in it that simply aren鈥檛 true鈥攍ike the idea that it鈥檚 possible and a good idea to get rid of all negative emotions or that persistance is the only real measure of a person鈥檚 character.

However, if you value meaning and balance more than money and accomplishment, or you perseverance isn鈥檛 one of your top character strengths, then this book will probably feel more like a hollow sales pitch.

It has some valuable content, but it should definitely be read with a grain of salt. This approach to life isn鈥檛 going to work well for everyone.

A seemingly disciplined book, realistic and practical on various methods, formulas, and principals, for laws of goal-setting. But it鈥檚 basically 鈥淟aw of Attraction鈥 meets realistic, clearly defined steps, such as calendarizing. The author uses many quotes which are interesting but move it towards being just another carbon copy of similar books. The problem is the simplistic nature of the topic and the book is stretched out too long. It repeats concepts over and over using different words and terms, and at times, strays away from the main topic it started out with. What started out as an organizational tool turned into a feel-good book about self-esteem.

Brian Tracy has written so many books that it is difficult to keep a tab of every book he has ever written.

He started by taking workshops for salesman and then wrote books about it. It was all related to how you can get success as a salesperson but later as his knowledge grew so was his knowledge and he now he writes about how to attain success for anyone.

Initially, I hated him because he advertises himself too much on the internet but I have to give him credits on one thing, he does it pretty well. It worked for me and I read most of his books and he writes really good and his books are really inspirational and motivational.

He knows how to sell and he sells himself very well.

The book 鈥淕oals鈥 is basically a summary of every book on success, mind power, getting rich and understanding of Sub-conscious mind.

The book literally talks about everything, right from Law of attraction to writing goals, from utilizing visualization techniques to using your subconscious mind.

I believe that Tracy has read nearly every book on these subjects.

He talks extensively from "Pushing to the front" by Orison Swett Marden to highly influential "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.

Both of these books are highly influential and can change your life if you give them an honest read.

Napoleon Hill's best seller book "Think and Grow Rich" is like a bible to anyone who wants to become successful in life and is looking for secret mantras to adapt to become rich, powerful and influential.

Tracy explores everything under the sun that is mentioned in every book ever written on success and becoming rich and gives you the best and the best of the methods from all of them.

Most importantly, he writes in such a fluid language that while reading it you get more excited and feel very action oriented.

It is not a book where you will find lots of anecdotes. It is a book where Brian Tracy gives you a set of rules.

He is not arrogant about it like Walter Wallace was in his book "The Science of getting rich" and does not care whether you accept his rules or not.

Tracy actually does puts valid and logical reasoning behind every rule of his and tries hard to make you understand them.

The core of the book is that a man needs to have a set of goals to know in which direction he is moving to get more successful.

He insists that if someone writes his goals every day then it will turn him into money pulling machine.

The problem with most people today is lack of focus and then they dwindle from one place to another place and that is why they never reach anywhere.

They need to focus on their goals and that will only happen when they know what is that.

Whatever a man conceives in his mind and decides to do, he needs to be not just aware of it, he should visualize it in his full capacity and also think about it all the time.

The thoughts which dominate a man's life are the thoughts which materialize in real life.

He talks about a man whom he met once who has this impossible to achieve dream of creating a theme park, which Tracy immediately rubbished as a stupid idea.

Years later, it came out to be true and the man finally did it. The man who came up with the impossible to achieve idea was no one but Walt Disney himself.

Whatever greatness a man has achieved it has to first get created and exist inside his own mind, only then something will come out it. Nothing happens on its own.

The book is not a fiction book that you will read once and your life will start to change. You have to read the book slowly like a course book and follow its rules in entirety to see the results happening. You either do it or don鈥檛 do it.

Like other such books, I would recommend that you don鈥檛 read this book as a leisure time pass book but read it again and again to get the core concept of it.

No one can learn anything from it in the first read. You will always find something new in the books in the consecutive readings.

I highly recommend this book and I would also suggest that you read other books of Tracy as well.

He has done thorough research and trust me he is not making anything up. The book is full of ancient wisdom and is a collection of all the good things anyone has ever written about success.
And yeah, knowing your goals and walking on them is the only path to success.

This is a great book. Well organized and easy to get through. Brian Tracy comes from a sales background, so if you're in sales, it will especially work for you. If not, it's still worth a look, since the information here applies to anybody who wants to get more accomplished and the goals you set don't have to be anything to do with business.

I read a lot and have read a lot of material on this particular subject. Out of everything I've been through, this is the one I'd recommend to friends. It's very practical with easy-to-implement strategies. It sounds cliche, and maybe even hard-to-believe, but I got one strategy from this book, which only takes about ten minutes per day, that has increased my income, given me a better work/life balance, and brought new opportunity in ways I would have never imagined.

This book won't work for everybody and it may not work for you, but if you're a fan of Brian Tracy or somebody who wants to attain certain goals in life, I recommend checking it out.

This is the second Brian Tracy book I have read and he is fast becoming my favourite career advice authors. In this book Tracy discusses the importance of goal setting and what a difference it can make to achieving what it is you want in life.

His advice is clear, concise and easy to follow. There are some moments where it gets slightly repetitive and some areas that I thought could have been slightly cut down but other than that, this is a fantastic book and well worth the read.

REACH FOR YOUR GOALS!! (and make sure to write them down to).

To be honest, I haven't gotten through this book. I doubt even if this is the kind of book to get through once and then shelve it done.

This is a partner of a book. To keep shelving and unshelving whenever you need it. I'm constantly adopting fragments from it into my daily routine ... and right now, I can honestly say that this is one of the most resourceful books I've ever read.

I'm likely to modify this review depending on how things turn out in the future as I take in more with experience.

Good Book. Nice Tips. It would have sufficed to read summarized notes of the authors ideas. Great Plan/ Tips. The one thing that I am have a challenge with these kinds of books is they give you so many steps to do while you are reading it. It would take a month to do all the activities. A great book should be able to be condensed into three great ideas. Otherwise it's too much. I enjoyed the beginning and the end most of all. I will review this book in the future.

People often forget why they do the things they do. The words "eyes on the price" don't always hold when your life is very dinamic or you are going through a tough time. I feel so inspired to integrate this book's lessons in my everyday life and see how it could improve my achievements.

It was not as repetitive as many self-help books, it had many, many practical pieces of advice, many applicable, some I already applied. I liked that it didn't only concentrate on people who want to be their own boss, it talked also to employees and ways to improve your life even if you don't want to be a millionaire CEO. Definitely a useful read!

Some valuable points but overall not succinctly put, way too many sub-sections for what is an overall simple topic to cover. I stopped paying attention around page 180 as it just started to drag on and essentially be predictable permutations based off the points in the first few chapters. The silver lining to this book is the somewhat inspirational point it makes - essentially everyone (at least if you aren't horribly oppressed) has potential to achieve just about anything they want and 80% of what is keeping one from what they want is one's own psychological self model. In a nutshell, know yourself, plan realistically, commit to excellence, make commitments to your goals, manage your time well, track your progress, adhere to a schedule, modify your actions to better fit your plans, fake it till you make it, etc etc. This book also has a disturbing material wealth = happiness stance that is kind of a downer.

You can only describe your life story. you cannot tell other people what to do, it's their life and they can do whatever the hell they want to do. This book literally gave me anxiety, it was giving me chills, ordering me to to do the same stuff the authour did. Like no, I want to do it my way, you are not my dad.

It wasn't my favorite book on goal setting and sometimes it was way too focused on business. Not everyone's main goal is to earn as much money as possible. That being said, there were a lot of great take aways which were the following:
*Zero Base Thinking: would you do this again if you had the knowledge you have today >> can also be used for buying things
*80/20 constraints: when working on your goals, 80% of constraints will be within yourself, only 20% of your constraints will be outside of yourself. You personally are usually the factor that determines the speed of your success
*Major obstacle to success are fear of failure and self doubt
*You can overcome learned helplessness by setting small goals, working consistently on them and gaining confidence over time
*Everyone who you depend upon for success is a customer. Your boss is your primary customer at work.
*Most plans to accomplish something new will fail over and over again at the beginning. Keep asking what鈥檚 working and what isn鈥檛?
*Write down 10-15 goals in the positive, personal, present way every day that you would like to achieve without looking at the day before. Atfer a few weeks you will know which goals you want to achieve and you will have written them more precise by the end of it.
*Write down your goals every single day and they will unfold their magic in ways you can鈥檛 imagine.
*Mindstorming Exercise: Write down a question like How can I lose 8% of body fat? and then force yourself to write down at least 20 answers.
*Problemsolving: Step 1: Define the Problem clearly. Step 2: What are all the possible causes for this problem? Step 3: What are all the possible solutions? Step 4: What must this solution accomplish? Step 5: Take responsibility for implementing the solution. Set a deadline and a measurement.
