After the climax of the previous multi-volume conflict with Bishamon, the action has now slowed down as everyone recuperates. Yato and Bishamon more-or-less reconcile over beer and cherry blossoms, and Yukine advances on the path to being a supportive shinki (kind of a bum deal, really, but what choice do you have when you're dead?).
Hiyori continues to be a great friend and Yato a crappy one.
Clearly we are in for another longer arc involving the masks and will be seeing more of Stray.
So this started out slow, comparatively, which made sense after we came down from the big story arc in the last volume. Hiyori makes a game changing move for Yato about 1/2 way through and right when this is as "feel-good" a story as it's ever been there is a huge moment at the end. It sets up what I think will be the most interesting and compelling storyline that they've tackled yet. I didn't see it coming and it was pretty well timed. Nice job salvaging what felt pretty sedate and really pulling me back in.
Omg the iconic mini shrine scene is here, I thought it was gonna happen after the next arc but when I saw it coming I was like :0, I believe the next arc is the last anime arc so I’m close to new content. Time to finish it off strong ?

This volume started off so funny and cute and then it took a really dark turn in the last chapter.... I am really loving this, I'm definitely going to keep reading until I run out of volumes ??
Noragami is the breakout manga series for me this year. I am always so happy when I discover a new title to fall in love with. This series is unique for me though, in that I don't always like many of the characters. Just when I think Yato is finally winning me over, he up and does despicable things that make me think again about whether I like his character or not. Volume 7 is a perfect example of this back and forth - the first few pages show him vulnerable, but then he quickly gets cocky and obnoxious, only to end the volume on a cliffhanger with him being yet again vulnerable. I can't make my mind up about Yato, and yet, that's also the appeal to this series. He's complex, and while I think ultimately he's going to mature in this story, like all things, for one step forward, he takes two steps back.
Yukine, on the other hand, has made such a rapid transformation from complete jerk to principled and dedicated student that I am really enjoying his character. I remember that it wasn't too many volumes ago that I wanted Yato to kick him to the curb. It's a good thing I'm not the one writing this story, heh.
Kodansha is releasing a volume a month for the foreseeable future, and I could not be more excited. With year long waits for Pandora Hearts and six month waits for other favorite series, it's nice to have a new volume a month with a series that I love. Yay.
A more laid back volume than previous ones, but a little on the slow side at parts. Probably because they're setting up for the next big event, but certain chapters and scenes where there was heavy exposition weren't as well paced as previous volumes.
Not a bad volume, though. Ebisu's introduction was interesting and I definitely want to learn more about him, and Hiyori making Yato a shrine was so damn sweet and lovely my heart damn near burst. Also, loved seeing Yukine step up his game and work towards becoming a good guide to Yato. Yukine has gone through some great character development and this is a shining example of it!
Overall, a really good volume, if not a little slow in parts.
The beginning with Veena & the gods was a little bit serious and boring. But we jump straight after to some fun when Yato possessed Hiyori (and give panties shoot to everyone in class.) to try to convert the student to “Yatoism”. His action makes Hiyori a sudden super star. There is also this other good Ebisu, who is trying to bride Yato and buy Yukine. Of course, money is always a problem with those two. The scene where Hiyori give Yato a mini shine was co cute ! There is some Yukine/Kazuma bonding, since the young shiki is trying to learn some new techniques and ask for help. Again, a great mix of serious moments, friendship and silliness.
So the funny thing about spending most of your time as a ghost but still having a functional body lying around? Less honorable minor deities can just pop into it and make your previously stellar reputation...less so. But thankfully, teenagers and adults jaded by so much interaction with teenagers just chalk it up as a rebellious phase and NOT an entirely different person taking the small meat robot on a joyride. And despite that massive invasion of privacy (and tarnishing of character), the bond between tracksuit god & young high school girl grows stronger, with a touching gift actually helping the hobo elevate his status to at least be recognized by other divine muckity-mucks. And thanks to all the talking-with-their-fists in the last volume, there's considerably less animosity between him and the angry warrior goddess. SO OF COURSE WHEN THE GOOD STUFF HAPPENS, SOMETHING *MUST* KICK HIM DOWN. In this case, the bum's mysterious family!
This eased up on the tension, which was exactly what we needed.
I really loved that beginning, too. It was silly but I felt like there was a lot to learn about the characters and story.
I love that she made him a shrine. You don’t even know how much I fangirled over that. He was so happy and I was so happy for him!!! Drunk yato: I’m gonna make hiyori the happiest girl in the whole world. (Because she made his life dream)
YOU CANT END IT LIKE THIS ANYMORE AUTHOR. I’M GONNA HAVE A HEART ATTACK.

Aghh this is farther than I ever was in the anime and now it's Yato making me sad instead of Yukine! What a concept. I have not been into Noragami for years but now I want to buy all the manga and rewatch the show.
