A Monster Romance

Ophelia has a dirty secret.

Well, it’s not really a secret anymore.

Ophelia was born into a family of Hunters, tasked with protecting the humans from the creatures of the night who feast on their fear.

Except Ophelia always found the idea of monsters kind of intriguing. She even made the grave sin of committing some X-rated monster thoughts to paper—which in hindsight may not have been the best idea because her parents were mortified—but you live and learn. Well, everyone finds out your secret, you get banished from society, and then you learn.

But the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Ophelia has been waiting for to make good on some of those fantasies has arrived. The King of Shades requires a hunter bride, and Ophelia is the best fit for the job.

Now she just needs to convince her surly monster husband, Allerick, that she’s the best fit for him.

I love how the entire plot was about the complexities & deeper meanings of the heroine's stench

I wonna pay homage to my sister, Ophelia, a fellow monster fucker. It's always nice to see my kind represented🥹

QUICK SUMMARY:
Shades are monsters from a colourless realm, whose existence is dependent on human fear. They can smell it and suck it up as sustenance.
Ophelia is a failed monster hunter who was sold into an arranged marriage with the Shade king. Her reaction to the marriage is where this book became a contradiction to its genre. Homegirl went into that marriage expecting certain standards...

I’d been promised monster fucking, and I wasn’t getting any damn monster fucking.

🛑SPOILERS🛑

The heroine was cute. Her character almost felt like a real life romance reader had been transported into a book, so she made the best of it.

Iconic Queen Ophelia moments:

🧘🏼‍♀ Ophelia skim reading the contract that literally defines the rest of her life💀

“I didn’t mean for it to happen, and it’s a violation of the terms of the treaty.
Ophelia’s frown deepened. “Is it? I only skim read it.
I gave her a disapproving look. “You moved here and married me without reading the document that is the basis for our whole union?

She wanted that monster cock so bad she said "hand me the pen😌"

🧘🏼‍♀ Ophelia pettily depriving her husband.

Of sex? No No. Of her horny smell.

Rude kings who probably had a harem of monster side chicks didn’t get to have horny wives.
That seemed like solid life advice to stand by.

His Majesty King Allerick being one big dumbass moment:

Due to the vague descriptions I pictured him as the Boogeyman and....😗
description
Daddy? Sorry.
Daddy? Sorry.
Daddy?

Don't let the menacing look fool you though. This mf thought the heroine was scared shitless 24/7, when she was simply really horny. Perceptive king he is not.

I love the way he also did not give a single shit if Ophelia was truly scared, he just didn't like the smell. These people physically GAGGED around her sometimes😭

When he thought the sweet smell of her desire was fear, THERE WERE ZERO COMPLAINTS🤣, but the moment he realised her fear stank rotten...oh oh suddenly it's a problem. You know what I call that? Pretty smell privilige.

Okay, back to the point...

In hindsight, it makes sense that their monarchs were choosen by brute strength and not intelligence, cause that boy was stoopid.

Context: they fucked for hours, mated eachother, then the hero sneaked out after she fell asleep.
Should I have stayed?
No, surely not. I’d never stayed before, it would be strange to start now. Besides, Ophelia hadn’t asked me to stay. Surely she would have asked if she wanted me to sleep next to her.

description

But where King Allerick lacked in brains, he made up for in self pity. Whiny men are not attractive to me but sometimes......sometimes it's acceptable.

Gone. She was actually gone. My heart was tearing into two inside my chest, ripping brutally in different directions. My breath sawed out of me, louder and raspier than normal. Maybe I was dying. Maybe Ophelia had condemned me to death when she walked out of my life. She’d been my sunshine, and she’d taken it with her.
I deserved it.

Yes son. You understand the assignment. If he isn't losing breath, on the verge of tears, borderline suicidal...then he isn't doing it properly. Make it as dramatic as possible for my personal sadistic entertainment, thank you.

Ophelia wasn't always very bright, either. Communication doesn't exist for these two. She just magically expects him to know what she feels. Which is technically valid because he can literally SMELL her emotions, but dude is a bit dense, she should already know that. And he sorta made all the conclusions he needed on his own. So the two fuckheads end up tiptoeing around eachother like middle schoolers.

Ultimately, when it was time to test they're undying bond, it went like this....
description
I mean...bitch left a whole realm, a throne, and her husband because he wasn't giving her enough attention😭. Which is wonderful, immature, queen behaviour.

Y'all should've seen em when they reunited and started all their snivelling. Annoying little twats.

It was like a waterfall of reassurance and "r u sure u luv me bb?👉🏼🥺👈🏼 r u sure u want 2 b my queen bb?" 10 times back and forth.

I swear this pair crawled straight from the depth of tumblr hell💀

World building thoughts:

The history between shades and hunters is actually pretty intriguing. It was explored on the surface level, but I wish there was more complexity. Especially when thinking of all the things that could go wrong when one intelligent species' existence depends on the emotions of another.

The Shades centuries ago had seen the Hunted as prey to be caught, not as partners or equals.

It worked well for Ophelia, but not everyone is that eager to fuck a monster. No wonder it was doomed historically. I am actually on the hunter's side to be wary and hostile. In a realistic world, there's a high chance history will repeat itself.

All in all: quick read with minimum substance. Entertaining enough.

5 ⭐️ An absolute f*cking DELIGHT!

I don’t know how to wrap my mind around the fact I’m giving a monster romance 5-f*cking-stars. 😂

WHAT TO EXPECT:
 monster romance
 shades x hunters
 arranged marriage
she’s an ex-huntress who got kicked out of her society for having sexual fantasies about shades
he’s the king of the shades completely clueless his new wife is horny for him instead of being afraid
 knotting, breeding, biting
 3/5 spice
 hilarious inner dialogue and banter
 low stakes
 HEA

Summary:

Shades are otherworldly beings from the Shadow Realm that portal to the human world to feed off fear. Hunters are the protectors and killers of Shades.

After centuries of fighting, a peace treaty is brokered. Hunters will stop killing Shades as long as they feed in designated areas, and the King of the Shades will take a Hunter as his bride.

Marrying a terrifying monster might seem like a nightmare to most, but not for Ophelia. At sixteen, Ophelia's parents found her sketchbook depicting lewd art of herself with Shades. They were horrified and turned Ophelia over to the Hunter's Council, who immediately kicked her out of their society. But now, they need her help to fulfill the treaty, and she is all too happy to oblige.

However, there's a little bit of a snag in her plan to finally live out these deep, dark fantasies. "I'd be promised monster fucking, and I wasn't getting any damn monster fucking." 🤣

Allerick, King of the Shades and her new husband, is wary of Ophelia. She is a Hunter and, therefore, cannot be trusted no matter how beautiful, kind, and caring she may seem. It all must be a trick, even that intoxicating sweet scent of fear surrounding her whenever he is near. However, it's not fear at all, but intense arousal. And once he makes this discovery, how long will the King of the Shades wait before he takes his Queen?

My Thoughts:

I f*cking adored this book! There is humor, drama, romance and action- everything you could want in a story.

I can’t even tell you how many times I actually laughed out loud! And the chemistry, tension, and angst between Allerick and Ophelia are so good! I absolutely love them as individuals and as a couple! 💕

Since this is a romance, the focus is mainly on the characters and their relationship, but there’s also an intriguing plot and fascinating world-building!! I never read a story quite like this - with Shades and Hunters - but I’m hooked! I seriously cannot wait for the next book!

This story is available to read on KU, but I loved it so much I will be ordering a physical copy. Let that be proof enough of how awesome it is!

Hands down probably one of the best monster romances I read so far. The world building, plot, and romance were all AMAZING!! I’m going to be OBSESSED with this series 🩶

Brief Summary: Ophelia was born into a family of Hunters, tasked with protecting the humans from the creatures of the night who feast on their fear. Ophelia’s parents found some explicit pictures of a Shade(shadow demon) when she was in her late teens and she gets banished from the community. One day her sister calls her because they are needing an arranged marriage between a Hunter and the king of the Shadow realm. What the king doesn’t know is his Hunter wife loves shadow daddies 🤪🤭

Tropes
✔️arranged marriage
✔️monster romance

”I’d been promised monster fucking, and I wasn’t getting any damn monster fucking.
🖤

Ophelia is one of my most favorite heroines. She’s authentic, blunt and so freakin hilarious(her inner dialogue had me rolling on the floor laughing). She’s not the chick in the monster romances that take forever to see the attraction our girl is a PROUD monster fucker 😈 Despite going to the shadow realm she adjusts and wants to conform to their customs.

”Are you telling me, Allerick said slowly, carefully collecting up my drawings and setting them on the nightstand, “that you have been wet and wanting since our wedding, wife?
🖤

Allerick aka Shadow Daddy King he’s broody, grumpy and was kind of a jerk in the beginning. He was hesitant about the marriage due to her hunter bloodline and had a lot of distrust in her. Once he FINALLY realized she was not on a mission to kill him he opened up a lot more emotionally. Our guy was possessive, caring, and thoughtful even when he had doubts of her intentions. All that purring and growling he was doing was making me 😩🥵

« When is a monster not a monster?
- Oh, when you love it » 🤭

So I really enjoyed this.
Ophelia was amazing. I connected with her right from the start - she’s sarcastic, nice, funny, curious, etc. She takes everything lightly and I wish I was more like her for that 😅
Allerick was pretty hot too 🤭
« I had been so very wrong about my wife »

Chapter 15 was the death of me 🫣

There are a few things I would’ve liked ;
- Some shadow play? I expected it from a shadow daddy but maybe it’s just me 🫣
- More romance 🥺
- Diversity in smut scenes

But overall I enjoyed this buddy read!!

« How about Queen Ophelia? Is that more to your taste?
- It feels arrogant to say yes, but I’ve gone my whole life feeling like someone should call me a queen, so I’m going to roll with it » 😂

Pre read ; Starting this BR with my sweet friend @DZá 🤩 can’t wait to see what this has in stock for us 🤭

4 We Were Bad Royals Stars

A descendent of the hunters meant to protect the humans from the monsters. Except Ophelia is an anomaly. Instead she fantasizes about the monsters thus making her useless to the cause.

Cast out and living among the humans, Ophelia has been summoned to take part in a treaty between the Hunters and the Shades. One that sees her married to the King of Darkness himself. Little does he know that his wife comes willingly.

Pity for him that he didn’t know my brain was wired wrong. Whenever I saw pointed teeth, I imagined them pressing against the delicate skin of my neck, pinning me in place while my monstrous lover fucked me ruthlessly into the mattress.

King Allerick is all about creating safe passage for the Shades throughout the realms. And if it means marrying the enemy to do so, he will. Although fearless and strong, he's totally daft when it comes to his new wife. As a monster that feeds off fear, he is no match for his Queen. For she has pride in spades and is always one step ahead.

I was going to stand my ground. He didn’t get to have horny Ophelia. Rude kings who probably had a harem of monster side chicks didn’t get to have horny wives.

Yet when Allerick discovers that the scent his wife permeates is in fact lust not fear, well the monster is coming out to play. How lucky his wife is more than ready to get on cock, I mean on board. And as Ophelia becomes more at home in the Dark Kingdom, they are unlocking a long lost legacy that Allerick is too stupid to see.

By the goddesses, I hoped this was more than just a monster-fucking fetish for Ophelia, because it was fast becoming everything to me.

I swear this author is underrated. The writing is fantastic, her imagination vivid, the sex scenes smoking and the wittiness between the characters completely engaging. I thought the story could have used more of an emotional connection between the two and less monster politics. Kinky and sweet, I loved the whole fantasy world created.

BR with Rain, who is always willing to try something different with me. And yay we got it right!

Arranged marriage but make it monster?!?! YES PLEASE

Luxuria follows Ophelia, a woman trying to get by in the world after being cast out by the hunters, who protect unknowing humans from the shades, monsters who feed on fear. When Ophelia is tasked with brokering a peace treaty between the two by marrying the king of the shades, she readily agrees. Unbeknownst to her new husband, Allerick, Ophelia is more than willing to enter into their marriage as she can finally live out her lifelong fantasy of being with a monster.

This was everything; it had the perfect combination of romance, plot, steam, worldbuilding, and intrigue. I was absolutely hooked from the beginning, and I loved how the story unfolded and Ophelia found her place in a new world with her grumpy monster husband. I also appreciated that it took some time for both Ophelia and Allerick to open up physically and emotionally to each other; it added the perfect touch of angst and tension. I am so excited to read the rest of the series, and cannot wait to explore more from Colette Rhodes!

Ugh YESSS! This is what I want from a monster romance

I gotta start with the secondary characters- all of them. AMAZING. I want books for Damen, Sorren, Levana and Calix! It was refreshing having supportive, friendly, honest side characters to the MCs and their relationship. Seriously couldn’t get enough of Damen especially. This world Colette Rhodes created was 🤌🏻.

Okay, as for the MCs- they were wonderful of course. Ophelia didn’t view herself as strong but her will and attitude were like steel. She was effortlessly funny. It was surprising having a FMC be totally on board with a monster partner from the start. Gahhh. Allerick was respectful to a fault, then when he and Ophelia finally collided it got disrespectful in the best way possible 😈. But he actually seemed most like a King to me, of all these monster royalty characters I’ve read.

The miscommunication was funny and frustrating, but angsty. I really enjoyed this part tbh. I do wish they explored scenting emotions more. Maybe in the next book 🤞🏻. (Seemed like it might be about Astrid?)

This is going down in my favorites of the year. I’m kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. Btw- this is hella smutty! HELLA. 😏 Enjoy 😌

"𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿? 𝗢𝗵, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁."

This provocative question drew me into "Luxuria: Shades of Sin," my first foray into the uncharted territory of monster-human romance. The premise, a political marriage between a human bride and the formidable King of Shades, Allerick, was undeniably captivating, promising a dark and thrilling journey. Yet, the execution, while intriguing, ultimately left me with a frustrating sense of unfulfilled potential.

The Hunters' Council's decision to send Ophelia into Allerick's shadowed realm ignited my curiosity. However, the initial spark quickly fizzled. Allerick's excessive paranoia, his belief that Ophelia's eagerness masked a sinister agenda, felt unnecessarily drawn out. Ophelia, poor soul, found herself confined to a gloomy palace, her days marked by solitary walks with a mismaiden, strained dinners with a king who treated her with icy indifference, and the constant, unsettling presence of a hidden adversary.

When Allerick finally abandoned his role as the perpetually brooding tyrant and began to observe Ophelia—a shift marked by his clandestine surveillance of her movements and her drawings—the dynamic shifted. But even then, the communication remained excruciatingly poor. (Seriously, "wife"? That's the pinnacle of his vocabulary? A touch of nuance wouldn't have been amiss!) Ophelia's palpable longing contrasted sharply with Allerick's apparent contentment to merely indulge his lust, creating a frustratingly uneven power dynamic. And, predictably, just as a semblance of progress emerged, the violation of the treaty forced Allerick to confront his buried emotions and lament his profound emotional ineptitude. "𝗠𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗺," indeed.

𝙋.𝙎: The fast-paced conclusion, while predictable, provided a satisfying surge of adrenaline. The world-building, with its unique and imaginative concept of Shades and Hunters, was a definite highlight. However, the writing style felt underdeveloped, and the climax, frankly, fell short of its potential. While the book delivered on its promise of steamy encounters, it failed to ignite a genuine, soul-stirring romantic connection. It was a tantalizing premise that ultimately succumbed to frustratingly flawed execution.

Luxuria by Colette Rhodes provided me with an engaging reading experience. I really liked most of the fantasy elements in this dark story; it checks off a lot of my "boxes," so to speak. The book had its share of strengths, such as the immersive world and elegant writing, but it also had its weaknesses. Especially the way the MCs are portrayed. They were a bit hard to connect with, and at times, their decisions left me feeling disconnected. What bothers me the most about their personalities is that one was stubbornly stupid, while the other one was unreasonably... 🙄 ahem, I'm still struggling to find the right word. Also, there were certain plot points that I wished had been explored in more depth. Anyway, I've been on the hunt for a monster romance, and this one hit the spot with a lot of interesting stuff.

[Readers should be aware that the book contains explicit and intense scenes that might not be suitable for everyone]

*4.5* An arranged marriage between a human and a monster, with some smell kink and lots of miscommunication.
″Come along, little wife, I purred, wrapping my claws around her slim arm and guiding her towards the aisle. “You smell like a meal, and it’s time for the feast.
I LOVED the writing! It was sharp and hilarious.
There was definitely part of me that thought we should talk about this, but was I really going to argue with him when he was willing to tongue fuck me into a better mood? No. No, I was not. Let the tongue fucking commence.
I also loved the premise of the story, and the first half was highly entertaining. How could you not enjoy a story with a line like this.
I’ll show her there’s more to a marriage with me than just my excellent dick.
I did feel there was something missing as the story continued. I craved the monster to be a little more monster-y, and I wanted to know so much more about the history of these seemingly polar opposites. I also

Remember in Monsters Inc, when they powered their city by frightening children, but soon learned laughter created more power than screams? This is an adult, monster romance version of that movie, at least that's my take! Fabulous side characters, and excellent writing. This was a fun, light, somewhat slow-burn monster romance.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a BR since I hopped on part way through, but I'm thankful Isabella brought this gem to my attention.

This is the first book in the Shades of Sin series and I sincerely hope there is more in this world. This monster romance follows The King of Shades, Allerick and Ophelia.

Ophelia is hunter born, a group of humans that protect humans from beings that feast on their fear. But she never bought into the whole hunter mentality and was rather intrigued and fascinated by the idea of monsters. When Ophelia does the unthinkable in the eyes of the hunters, she is cast out and lives a life away from all of it. However, she never loses her soul deep want and need for the 'depraved'.

Years later the hunters approach her and ask her to marry the King of Shades so that a treaty can be signed between them. Ophelia, not very happy with her life, accepts the marriage of convenience and finds herself strapped to the sexy as hell shade. But he doesn't seem as thrilled to be strapped to her.

With more happening than both of them know, will Allerick and Ophelia find common ground and build a life together? Will the two of them find the truth that's been buried?

This was very enjoyable. I loved the slow burn and tension and when we got the smut, it was *whew.* I loved Ophelia's unassuming and kind nature. I loved her tenacity and acceptance of who she was and what she wanted.

"Seriously, I was one muttered complaint about how slow my human legs moved away from whispering, ‘sorry, Monster Daddy, and dropping to my knees to ask for forgiveness."

Allerick, while thick headed, was a loveable and endearing alpha hero and really just wanted to do right by his people and his Ophelia.

"'You’re a pretty little liar,' Allerick said in a deep voice that traveled directly to my clit. 'You’d better hope they’re of me. If you’ve been drawing other Shades fucking my wife, wearing my crown,'—shit'then I’m going to have to kill some of my own subjects, Queen Ophelia.'"

I would have liked some more description of the Shade world and their customs because I was left with some questions about a lot of things but I did like that the story focused primarily on Allerick and Ophelia's blossoming romance. Overall, a really good monster romance with smutty goodness, suspense and intrigue and a lovely ending.

REVIEW
This is the first book in a long time I’ve woken up and needed to continue reading.

A grayscale world (re)gaining color is so fun, and I wish I encountered the situation more often. The history of the shadow realm was featured enough to be interesting without taking away from the developing relationship between Ophelia and Allerick.

Whether it be to inform the reader or to show how oblivious the characters were, some points were annoyingly heavy-handed. For example, Allerick thinks the sweet scent coming from Ophelia is fear, but from her point of view, we know it’s desire/lust. When Ophelia does actually feel fear, every Shade in the vicinity is like, “Ew, what is the sour scent? She literally just smelled so good. Whatever could be causing this disgusting scent? The other scent was just so much nicer. Their conversation/reactions to it were unnatural and stilted.

I enjoyed the first three quarters of the book, but the ending was sort of rushed. I’d rather we didn’t get answers to certain questions (e.g. the history between Shades & Hunters) than just getting a quick sentence in the epilogue. Regardless, it had my attention and set up a world I’m eager to know more about, sooooo…can’t complain.

This book made me feel giddy and giggly. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, and nothing makes a good book better than no/low expectations.

OW/OM DRAMA not really OW Meridia wants to be queen so badly she has tried to seduce Allerick but he is not interested and finds her actions embarrassing for her
CHEATING none
THIRD ACT BREAKUP sort of misunderstandings and lack of communication makes Ophelia leave
ENDING HEA epilogue set in near future

3/10/23: 5 stars on reread. Any book that holds up this well the second time around deserves 5 stars from me.

6/15/22: 4 stars. I really enjoyed this book, and I’m sad to have to wait for the next in this series. I’m really looking forward to seeing where the series storyline goes.

This is a unique monster romance with “shades and “hunters. Shades are from the shadow realm and come to the human realm to feed on the fear of humans. Hunters are basically human but they different because they are the only ones who can actually see the shades. They try to have control over the shades and kill them if they see them in the human world. The heroine, Ophelia, is a born hunter but has been cast out of the group because as a teenager she drew some pictures that represented her sexual desires towards the shades. She went on to live a normal human life until she is asked to step in and become the queen of the shadow realm - in order to secure a peace treaty. She is married off to the King, Allerick, and has to adjust to her new life. There are some misunderstandings, and drama surrounding the peace treaty, but there’s also a sweet HFN ending that’s making me crave more of this series.

I seriously can’t wait, and I’m sad that the vast majority of this author’s work has been reverse harems because that just really isn’t my cuppa.

Safe; no virgins, no OM drama, slight OW drama from a woman who wants the hero but he doesn’t want her, no scenes with OM/OW, no cheating.

This was such a fun and horny monster romance with ‘shades (hee! See what I did there 😂) of Hades/Persephone.

Ophelia was hilariously snarky and spent most of her time thinking explicit thoughts about her monster husband, and was getting annoyed that he didn’t want to consummate their marriage even if it was arranged as part of a hunter-monster peace treaty. Meanwhile, Allerick was loving the sweet scent of her fear (spoiler: it wasn’t her fear he was smelling), but was getting all protective despite himself. I LOVE THIS DYNAMIC.

I only wish the emotional connection was more developed, as they went from lots of horniness to love pretty quickly, but I still found the whole book very entertaining. I literally laughed out loud while listening to the audiobook - the narrators were fantastic.

**3.5/5 stars**

Bear with me, I don't really feel like summarizing the premise in my review today but here are my quick thoughts on the book:

Ophelia was such a refreshing heroine. She was sweet, sassy, and very in harmony with her sexuality. I mean, this woman was so horny all the time, fantasizing about monster porn, drawing it even. I personally found her fun and entertaining to follow. She had a smart mouth, wasn't scared of the King of Shades and his grumpiness. My only real issue with her was that, I feel like she gained the respect the Shades way too easily, without really working toward it or deserving it. She didn't really put in the work to meet with the civilians, connect with them, prove that she was a worthy Queen. I really wish she'd been shown putting in the effort to be liked rather than wandering in the gardens without purpose. She also kept quiet when something bothered her, didn't really communicate with her husband.

“You will not die of orgasms. I’ll get you so addicted to fucking me that you’ll die without orgasms.-Allerick

The King of Shades was one dense grumpy asshole for most of the book. I mean, I liked him, he was possessive and territorial just how I like my heroes but something was missing overall. Just like Ophelia, Allerick had a tendency to assume things without communicating, keeping his worries to himself, avoiding conversations. I feel like his growing feelings for her weren't clear enough. For the most part, it seemed to me that their attraction was mostly physical and I just wanted more on the emotional front.

“I’ve never hated my claws before, but now I want to rip them off at each meal so I can bury soft fingers in your cunt while you eat.-Allerick

Their relationship was really intense right from the start, they had a nice chemistry and the tension was there. The miscommunication really bugged me the most, it's a trope that I always find annoying as hell. Their separation felt a bit forced and unnecessary, overly dramatic even. It was weird how things unfolded. I didn't like the antagonist(s)' motives, I thought they were lame and stupid villains, and the last five chapters is what considerably dropped the rating for me. Their reasoning didn't make any sense at all. The beginning of the story was fun and engaging, the middle was a bit slow paced and the ending was rushed and unsubstantial.

Would I recommend this book? I think the universe created in this book had a unique appeal, with good characters and an interesting concept. The ending sort of hints to Astrid, Ophelia's older sister, having her own book in the future. I'm personally not sure I will be reading it as I didn't like or connect with her character. Her future pairing doesn't really make sense to me personally either. Overall, I liked what I read. I did think there were some lost opportunities between Ophelia and her new subjects, as well as with Allerick in general. But, not a bad book at all though!

I loved this monster romance! It had omegaverse vibes to it with the biting, knotting, and perfuming which I loved. The first half of this book for me was a perfect five stars. Watching how Ophelia adapted to this new world and form relationships with everyone was very fun. I liked how many of them had reservations but as they got to know her, they slowly became friends. I also really enjoyed the miscommunication in the book. I think the way the author used that trope was perfectly done here as it wasn't used just as the third act conflict but right from the beginning. It gave this rather sweet love story some tension and angst at the beginning drawing out the will they/won't they. It was clear they both wanted each other but were holding back because of their misinterpretation of how the other was feeling. I loved how Ophelia had a back bone and wasn't going to just let Allerick used her like she believed he was. Then once he discovered her drawings, there was a complete 180 in their relationship and we got some pretty hot scenes.

I only had a few issues with the book. One being, I wished we got more of their relationship than just the sexual aspect. That was one of the main conflicts in their relationship with their lack of communication but I wanted to see just a few more sweet moments in between the sex to show their developing feelings for one another. I also felt like the main "bad guy" in the book was in there without much reasoning. It just didn't flow with the story as easily as I would have liked it but I clearly didn't care about it too much as I still really enjoyed the book. There are also still a lot of unanswered questions but considering this is just the first book in this series, I am hoping they will be explained later on.

I really enjoyed the romance aspect of this story and it definitely carried this book for me. This was a very enjoyable read that had a little paranormal, and little ovegaverse, but still was fairly unique in its own way. I am vey excited to read the next book in this series when in comes out next year!

4.5 ⭐❤️❤

I loved Ophelia (FMC) the most, and in my opinion she carried this mountain in her smol hands almost single-handedly. I loved how humorous she was, and that she used it as a coping mechanism was seamlessly implied. Kudos to the writer for making me sense (all show no tell 👌) her raw vulnerability and her insecurities underneath all that humor. Really good balanced writing - what could have been rife with overtures was instead presented in a tempered way with regards to her POV. I also LOVE how much she owns what she wants.

Allerick (MMC) - humourous in his OTT possessiveness, hilarious is his confusion, adorable in places, hot in bed no doubt no doubt 🥵 Loved his sincerity, his protectiveness, his inner monologues.
I knocked half a star off for his dumb-assery though. His non-communication, lack of emotional aftercare for the most part (even if it was due to his own insecurities about her and this union) made me like him marginally less, since so much could have been found out through a little extra conversation. I can see why him holding himself back due to his own insecurities (all valid) spiked Ophelia's own to a hurtful level (which made my heart hurt). I still place more responsibility on him to have declared things, or implied a few things SOONER considering how consistently transparent Ophelia seemed throughout the book if even she didn't outright spell things out. Her actions were totally enough!

Would have loved to see more conversation between them that had more depth.. luckily their POVs were entertaining and endearing enough to distract me from the potential it had to be more than what it is. Maybe after reading (worshipping) Radiance by Grace Draven, I just inevitably hold that as the peak benchmark to reach/beat for monster romances 🤷

The plot IS their relationship, with some focus on the politics and the conflict between Hunters and Shades. Bit of a slow burn for about half the book, but once they bang, they go bangbangbangbang. 👍

VERY curious about the next book - the way the end of this one was set up I'm hoping to see a specific couple take center stage in the next one.
Sweeeet HEA, I loved it, highly recommend. 🥺💕

Oh ohhhh! Honorary mention to Prince Damen who was super cute and had more brains than his brother, King Allerick 👏🤷

This was hilarious and horny which honestly is a pretty great combo. My only complaint is that I wanted to better understand the councils and have a bit more background on that but maybe that will be explored in other books that have Hunters in them.

I dunno what else to write so I just leave you with quotes that made me laugh.

"I’d been promised monster fucking, and I wasn’t getting any damn monster fucking."

"I sighed quietly to myself, surveying my surroundings instead since apparently I wasn’t going to get railed in my wedding dress any time soon."

"I wasn’t about to beg and whimper for a male who found me pleasing enough even if he did have a big monster dick hiding under those shadows."

“Did you just make me a shadow sex swing?

The first half of the book had me in an absolute chokehold. I loved the misinterpretation of Ophelia’s scent as a new and fresh take on miscommunication. Ophelia’s monster-fucking fetish was handled with a style of humour that caught me off guard (in a good way)!

Really enjoyed it, can’t wait to read more 🖤

4 ⭐️ Not me ridiculously obsessed with a monster romance. And it's still amazing as a reread!

I will say, I adored this book, but I still don’t know where the title comes from, nor what it means. But, damn what a book!

Ophelia is ostracized and ignored by her family and community at the age of 16 because of her wrong, unnatural attraction to the very monsters she was supposed to hunt and kill. She had been born a huntress, a supernatural kind of human especially prepared to see and kill Shades, monsters that feast on people’s fear. When, in order to seal a new treaty, they need a huntress to marry the King of the Shades, they are more than willing to use the very woman they once pushed aside.

Ophelia and Allerick are an absolute dream to read about. Both so guarded to begin with, but so eager to make the peace between their people work. This is an erotic romance, and although there is no real intimacy until almost the 50% mark, it didn’t feel like a slow-burn at all. There is a lot of miscommunications between the MCs though, but tbh it didn’t bother me as much as it usually does. I was just really into it, I guess. The plot and world-building were great!

I have no notes - honestly no complaints, no nothing. I probably could have some regarding Allerick, but Ophelia's eagerness for monster d!ck carried this thing all the way to the end! It wasn’t a masterpiece of literature, but I sure loved it!

“I’d be promised Monster fucking, and I wasn’t getting any damn Monster fucking.

Ahora, bien.

This book was a lot more lighthearted than I expected .

it’s genuinely just monster smut with basically no plot. My complaint is that these characters don’t have a personality beside of being horny.

The Romance is not believable because they spend the entire time having sex Or talking about being horny. They dont even sleep in the same bed . Then out of nowhere they love eachother??? I had to roll my eyes.

If you were looking for something, purely smut, I’m sure you’ll have a field day with this one unfortunately for me it was just whatever

Luxuria is book 1 in the Shades of Sin series. I thought it was an enjoyable story with lots of heat but felt it was really repetitive and I found myself bored halfway through it. While I wasn't blown away by this book, I do look forward to book 2.

This was actually a pretty fun book and I’ll probably continue the series.

Rating: 3 ⭐️

However, what really got me was the communication issues. The reason this book was 300 pages and not 100 is because they. Would. Not. Communicate.

The writing also wasn’t amazing, but I can overlook that. The premise is just so fun and there were some really great lines, especially in the first half!

THIS WAS HOT AND SEXY, HOWEVER WHERE WAS THE SHADOW PLAY????? 🤭🤔

Anyways I adore Ophelia and totally understand feeling like the black sheep in the family. I was glad she finally found her self within the shadow realm along side with Allerick. Allerick was grumpy sweet teddy bear who is a little oblivious to how much Ophelia really likeee him at first lol. All I know is Damien is the real mvp and I will be seated for his book 😄.

P.S the Christmas bonus was 🤣

Well this was unexpected!!! It was great! Allerick is the king of Shades, who live in the Shadow World and feed off of human fear. When a peace treaty is drafted by the human Hunters, whose objective is to kill “unruly Shades, Ophelia is offered to the king as his bride to bridge the two groups in a show of peace.

Ophelia happens to be very drawn to monsters, which is why her Hunter parents shipped her off to boarding school and made her life entirely human. She’s sweet and kind and secretly very dirty and FUNNY! She’s so cute, I loved reading her perspective!

There is a bit of danger and dissension, lots of spice and cuteness and sweetness, some humor that made me laugh out loud, and a really cool setting in the castle in the Shadow World. This entertained me from the start!

It was a spectacular book! Without a doubt, reading it was going through a roller coaster of emotions of all kinds!
Allerick and Ophelia were undoubtedly made for each other. Despite how spicy things got, it was great to read that both she and he found what they were needing.

It is curious how much detail could be described in all the scenes. 🤭
