Before the apocalypse, we were strangers. Now our lives will forever be entwined.
The gripping, intensely romantic sixth installment of award-winning author Imogen Keeper's wild ride After the Plague Series.
There’s no law anymore and no justice.
As power consolidates in post-apocalypse D.C. and Ben holds me captive in the mountains, chaos is the only rule.
It’s calling to Yorke. It’s calling to me.
I’m terrified of what I’ll become if I give in to its lure.
In this final installment of the second trilogy in the After the Plague Series, mysteries are solved, new threats unfold, and Frankie and Yorke face terrible choices as the fires of their love smolder amid a world on the brink of war.
Gripping, emotional, and packed with suspense!

An Amazon best-selling and award-winning author, Immy writes romantic apocalypse and dystopian stories. Her books are a shade too dark to be light, and a tinge too light to be dark. They'll make you cry and worry and wonder, but there's always a layer of hope and laughter and sexy times to brighten it all.
In addition to writing, Immy loves her children, her husband, books about steam and darkness, flowers (even if she accidentally shmurgles half of them), coffee, DIY projects, trying new things, learning new facts, sunshine, guacamole, and sticky toffee pudding.
I've loved this series from the beginning and I’ve been waiting for this book for sooo long! It’s good to be back to see Yorke and Frankie’s family against the post-apocalyptic situation.
This started right after the ending of Haven (book 5), I would advise re-reading the previous one to refresh your memories or you’ll have a little trouble keeping up with the book like I did in the beginning due to many characters that I forgot But, after remembering who’s who, it become easier to follow the plot.
This book comes with a HUGE surprise that I didn't see coming at all which was another challenge to Yorke and Frankie's relationship. But I just love how their relationship work, even with the sudden change it didn’t break the strong bond between them and they're able to work it out.
I also love how grown Shaun has been since the previous book, it can be seen through Yorke POV's and the new POV - Ephie's. I also like seeing his own love story with the new girl, Ephie. I hope we'll have more different POVs from other characters in the future.
It ended with hope but also an unknown bigger danger of a ruthless general that I think they'll be up against in the next part of the series. Overall, a great addition to this beautiful written series and my only wish is I don't have to wait long for the next one😆
I received an advanced review copy for free from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily!
I hate to say it but this one was just good for me.
I can remember blasting through books 1-5 in 4 days last Spring. And I was so excited for this one to finally release and finish out this incredible world she built.
But it fell flat for me. I found Frankie and Yorke both obnoxiously annoying. I feel like there were a lot of random things thrown in that we never got clarification on. I feel as though we did more world building instead of wrapping up this one.
I will say I absolutely loved Shane and Ephie. I would definitely read about their lives in the future.
Overall, I think if you read all books in order in a timely fashion you might enjoy this last book better. For me, 1-3 are outstanding and will forever set the bar in this world for me.
Well, I finished the last book written in the series. Sounds like there are more coming. I hate waiting!!!!!
This was my least favourite book so far. Probably because the community was so much larger and the odds were so against them with the general and the WHW. Also why fire? So wasteful in a post apocalypse world.
Will keep reading. Here is a summary of what happened in books 1 to 6, because I know i will forget :
Frankie was married to Jimmie. Loved him SO much. He was older and took care of things for her. He died. She was ready to give up and die but a dog found her. When she went to return the dog, she found 5 year old orphaned Auden. She took care of him. Eventually she went to find Colleen, who was a reporter who had told survivors to find her. Almost immediately, the WHW, white house woman, red head who was ammassing an army at the whitehouse, tried to get them. Yorke, ex army, joined Frankie and was almost immediately in love with her. They had a slow start because though she quickly came to love him, she still loved dead husband Jimmy. They eventually rejoined Colleen and her group, including Shayne who was 17 and they kinda adopted. And Shasta and her group. Together they went to a boutique hotel in west virginia mountains named thornewood. The people already living in town, Renata and Ben, wanted them to pay taxes. They had a bigger population so they got what they wanted. Renata is conniving and ben is a bully. He took a hammer to shayne's hand. Ben ambushed yorke. Then he kidnapped frankie and kept her in a cellar for a month. Renata helped her get rescued. Yorke set fire to the town.
In book six, frankie is pregnant. She gets rescued. Shasta is blind. The army, 400 people that yorke got to join them to fight ben, hate yorke because he kept sending them out to search for frankie and traded bullets to get her back. She gets back and tries to kill ben by poisoning him. In the end some ex townees decided to try and rescue ben by starting a fire in the hotel. Yorke goes to find a bullet making warehouse but it is a trap. Kelley , undercover with the butcher , who has 6000 pigs and 5000 army, is beaten and stabbed. Rey , her girlfriend, is made to not tell yorke about wjat is happening at thornhille so they dont kill her. In addition to the fire, WHW,s assistant odille and renata and sebi and an army are also there for yorke. Yorke agrres to go back with her if they leave everyone rhere alone. Ben and rourke try to kill frankie. Then mitsy tries to kill her. Frankie tells yorke they allgo with him to dc. He finally realizes niwhere is safe and agrees to her coming. Shayne and his bow girlfriend , ephie, will probably go to. Ephie was bens protégé. She wasnt very likeable but has now joined the good side. Oh and ben sent off a nmessage with a pigeon to the general, who conscripts anyone 14 and over and has forced breeding programs and a huge army telling him the yorke is at thornwood...he wants him because the whw wants him to lead his army. That is the end.
Post-apocalyptic romance novels are some of my favorites, and when I discovered this series last year, I ate it up! For some reason, I missed that it wasn't a completed series, so I've been waiting longingly for this next installment! Thanks to Imogen, I received an ARC and, omg, does this story continue to get better with every book! I was nervous that the cliffhanger from the last book would be a bit too dark, and while it was, we got back into the story pretty fast. The relationship between Yorke and Frankie continues to grow as they work through their issues, but the relationship growth I was really excited for was Shane and Ephie! I don't want to give too much away, but I'm glad we got a new perspective from this book...I hope Keeper expands on this in the next book! Now it's time to wait for the next one...
I didn’t think it was possible to love this series or these characters anymore than I already did! Guess what!!?? It’s totally possible! I don’t even know where to start. My mind is full of many emotions. I have been in a major book slump, and I am delighted to say that Immy pulled me right out.
Immy has a way of making you not only care about the characters, but also experiencing events right along with them. Her writing/story telling is so strong that it has me breaking some of my hard and fast rules, like never starting a series before it’s over, because her writing is just that good. You care about everything, the major characters, the secondary characters, current events, future events and how in the world it will possibly work out!
These books are also great when you re-read them. To prep for this book, I re-read books 4 and 5. I was just as invested and emotional this time as I was when I read them the first time. Again, PHENOMINAL story telling. I have no idea why these books do not have thousands of 5-star ratings.
I started this series right after book 2 was released. It’s amazing to see how much both Yorke and Frankie have changed throughout the story. Frankie’s growth has been especially satisfying to watch. The way she “womaned-up in this book was really gratifying. Not only is Yorke one of my favorite MMC, Frankie is at the top of my FMC list too!
I fell a little in love with Shane and Ephie too. Ephie is another example of Immy’s brilliant writing. I wanted to K-I-L-L Ephie but ended up loving her. Maybe we can get future books with Shane and Ephie as adults!!???
I cannot say this enough, because Immy is readying this. Favorite thing about this book (by far): Yorke’s dirty talking!!! Yes, more please!
I have been a fan of this series since it first came out in 2020, the world building is on point and the characters are phenomenal. In fact, this time around I finished this book in one day, I’m a bit embarrassed to say almost in one sitting lol staying up WAY past acceptable bedtime hours to finish this book. This might be her heftiest book in this series, but she continues to jam pack her books in a way that doesn’t feel rushed and never leaves you unsatisfied with events. Keepers storytelling allows you to feel all the feels; celebrating the wins, experiencing the heartache, feeling the rage of injustice and of course the LOVE! I will say this book is the darkest of the series, Yorke really struggles with Frankie’s abduction so you get insight into the singleminded devotion that he has for her, entering a headspace that’s chaotic, yet so very focused on his one goal of saving Frankie. Frankie’s experience has left her feeling adrift and struggling to feel that security she really embraced at Thornewood in the earlier books. Both growing in their devotion in each other and evolving into something new and stronger.
I don’t like to include spoilers in my reviews and there are several key developments (a new character POV) that I think readers will absolutely love, but………know that Ben gets his deserved ending ;)
THIS SERIES!!!! I SWEAR EACH BOOK GETS BETTER AND BETTER, IT’S ADDICTIVE!!!
Frankie, Yorke, Auden, Shaun and Beast are so loyal and dedicated to each other. They are truly found family with so much love and devotion for each other. The personal growth in these characters is so well done and totally believable. I love this family, through their hardships, terrors and struggling to survive and stay together. They are stronger together. Even the collie dog, Beast, is constantly worried and trying to keep his family safe and together. I’m so invested in what happens to them, with so many trying to tear them apart. Frankie is AMAZING! She’s gone from the helpless wife whose husband did everything for her, before the plague, to this strong woman who is the center of this family and keeps them together AT ALL COSTS!!!
I was thinking maybe this was the last book, but as the story went on I kept thinking that there is NO WAY that this can be wrapped up by the end of the book. I was right, there will be another book coming and I’m thrilled!! I really want to see Frankie, Yorke and their family have their ending, and I’m really hoping for a happy one…maybe the flower-verse…you’ll understand after you read it. But WAIT UNTIL YOU READ IT!!! Just like the entire series has been IT’S HARD TO PUT DOWN!!!!
I was deeply in love with this series, until now...
This one is tricky, because don't get me wrong, I still love it, but for me personally the decision making from the characters was just not great. On the other books, it felt like the mistakes were understandable, but in this one it just feels a little bit dumb. I mean, don't they learn from their mistakes?
Maybe after watching too much walking dead (lol) I'm too much on the "you must always kill the bad guys or they came back later" side, and in this book in particular I just got frustrated. Some situations were just predictable and I had higher expectations for these characters I guess. So yeah, for now, I took one star from this book and gave it 4.
Even after all the craziness, I still love very much how much they love each other and that remains the main reason I love this series so much (however I must say I was way less emotional - didn't drop a tear while before, I cried my heart out). Also, the way Shane shows how much he's grown and matured the last few books is perfect. He's really a golden boy.
I thought this would be the last one from the series and learned it isn't. Excited for the next! One of my favourites for sure!!
Thanks to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars
I'm a sucker for post-apocalypse books and have enjoyed Imogen Keeper's world building in the After the Plague series.
Frankie was kidnapped by Ben and is being held hostage in a basement. Yorke is tearing the countryside apart looking for her. There are a lot of new people living at Thornewood and resources are running low.
I enjoyed the book and I hope she adds more to the series. This book felt a bit darker than the prior ones--I definitely enjoy more of the rebuilding aspects in dystopian books. Frankie has always been a character who shines bright and pure in prior books but toughens up significantly in Chaos. I loved the focus on Shane and what a great person he is.
I highly recommend readers start at book one and immerse themselves in this series.
Tense, emotional and an awesome read I absolutely love this series. There is so much depth to the main characters, what they are thinking what they are feeling. Post pandemic they are hoping things will start calming down in the new world, but things are not getting settled but seem to be getting worse. Yorke is such a well done character; how he is, who he is and what he is. And Frankie, she has come full circle and grown into a heroine I can cheer for. There is a great flow to the writing which also coveys such real feelings, anger, sadness, humor and love. I found myself holding my breath for much of the book, and there were some totally unexpected surprises. Well done and I hope to see how Frankie, Yorke and the family fare on the next phase of their journey. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
I have seen Yorke as a man, a soldier, a leader, a lover, a friend, a confidente. He has been a source of inspiration and encouragement to all those he comes across. Until Frankie was taken (book 5 Haven), his faith in himself and his abilities never waivered. He knew he could be killed or fall sick or lose people, but the loss of her changed him. Her presence in his life is the stability he needs to not devolve into Chaos, into a demon let loose among the sheep. But her rescue, and her own dangerous thoughts, cause him to question his humanity. This is the end of the second trilogy but not the end of Frankie and Yorke's story.
The After the Plague series is in my top two post apocalyptic romance series after a lengthy rabbit hole dive in the subgenre for the last year-ish and the latest book, Chaos, didn’t disappoint. I love the main couple Frankie and Yorke, the spice, the twisty plots, and all the wonderful side characters. Explores societal collapse and survival, grief and love after loss, the cost of war, trauma recovery, found family, parenthood, and more themes.
In this installment, I wasn’t sure how everything was going to come together and was quite afraid for our main couple but of course, there’s always hope on their horizon. Now for the sweet anticipation of the next one
I’d been anticipating reading this book since I first read the series and I held off a little longer to reread the series, which I highly recommend as it definitely was needed to remind myself of all the side characters and the ending from the last book. Frankie has been taken and the chaos that unfolds from Yorke losing her shifts everything that they’d be striving towards in their new home. The tension was amped up in this one and the surprises and decisions made has me so excited to see what Imogen will bring us in the next book. Highly recommend if you love dystopian romances with found family.
The only way I seem to consune the books in this series is by devouring them.
Frankie, Yorke, and the rest of the gang are back and the Thornewood waters are almost at a boiling point. With Ben still in the picture and some inner threats, they'll have to work together to be able to move forward.
You've got action, spice, and romance all wrapped up in a post-apocalyptic package. Though I dropped a star because there were a few moments where the story was dragging a bit and some issues were getting just a tad bit repetitive. Other than that, awesome read! Can't wait for the next one!
SPOILERS .... I am extremely disappointed that they're leaving everyone. I like books to have happy endings even if it wouldn't happen that way in real life so I expected for everyone to live together forever in peace and happiness. Is she really going to just up and leave Shasta? Especially after what happened to poor Shasta? It also ended to abruptly. This is my first series by this author so maybe her next series is going to continue with Frankie and Yorke and will include Shasta and Church but I doubt it. Honestly the ending ruined the entire series for me.
“Definitely. Or how maybe this life will still be really good. Even without all the stuff that made it easy before. Maybe it’ll be harder, but maybe because we have to fight for it so hard, it’ll be that much better?
Chaos for sure. I read this slow because 1. I have to wait for the next book and that always slows me down. 2. Everyone is making some crap decisions in this book. I still enjoyed it but it took me a long time to get through because of the messiness. I both like and am a little apprehensive about where this is going but Imogen Keeper hasn't let me down yet.
Characters, plot and real literature, not your usual shallow dystopian fiction
The After the Plague series is an excellent way to spend several hours thinking about a seriously warped but believable future for humanity. All the characters are relatable and understandable. The plot is exciting and realistic. The motivations and reactions of the characters make sense and illustrate the recurring themes of all successful literature. I recommend this series as the best of this genre I have read.
Imogen I will be sending you my therapy bill for all the stress and anxiety I just had to go through.
What a great book! I couldn't put it down - Lots of adventure and chaos (perfect name for the book). Would absolutely recommend this series if you are a fan of apocalypse books. Yorke, Frankie and their little found family go through so much together and it is one hell of a ride.
I stumbled upon this series by accident about 3 months ago and now am up to speed and will undoubtedly wait impatiently for the end.
This has been a well developed series of books with strong characters and plotlines. There is a lot of tension and romance and sadness. And I love that everyone is a shade of grey and not so black and white of good and evil.
Nursing the most painful book hangover after reading these six books back to back. Still thinking about this world weeks later. I love these characters, Frankie and her boys, like few others.
‼️ It still boggles my mind how this series has gone/continues to go unnoticed by all the diff book communities. How has this flown under the radar for so long?! Pure luck that I came across it, and thankful for it.
The aftermath: nothing really does it anymore. No other book quite reaches the emotional depth or connection or adrenaline high found here. I’ve DNFed a handful of books since finishing Chaos (#6). I’ll look forward to devouring the concluding Part 7 once released.
Bravo, Ms Imogen Keeper, this is certainly one of the best series I’ve read in a long time. I’ve just finished this series and I’m even entertaining a reread (rare for me!)
Very enjoyable. I loved the development of both main characters. Frankie developed into a tough heroine. The way she learned how Yorke processed was really sweet. I loved the way when the chapter was Yorke’s pov, he called Mitsy Misty. I laughed out loud when he found out. A really satisfying end to the series although not really the end. For a while I thought all the loose ends wouldn’t tie up but they did nicely in a bow.
*3.5* I loved the first few books of this series, but these last few I have struggled with. It feels as if the characters keep rehashing the same conversation in different ways. Maybe it’s because I felt such a bond with these characters early on that I wish they were further along in the maturity of their relationship than they really are.
Nevertheless, I’m heavily invested on finding out what happens next!
Just when you finish a book in the series you think the couple has nowhere to go. When they have lost everything they survive on love for strength to continue. Imogen Keeper is brilliant, imaginative and uses her enhanced emotions to keep readers enthralled in her series. I am waiting with patience and anticipation of the next book.
This book! It might be my favourite of the series yet. It’s darker than the others for sure, but that ending! I still have palpitations just thinking about it. Her writing as always is spectacular. This series never gets old, and I’ll never stop rooting for Frankie and Yorke to get their HEA.
While this is still one of my favorite series, I can't say I liked this book more than the last book. I gave that one a 5 star rating. I still enjoyed this one, but I felt a disconnect between Frankie and Yorke. I wish they communicated better. Excited to find out what's in store for them next.
