Thank you to Mercedes and NetGalley for sending me an ARC of Thunder and Daisy in exchange for review.

I loved this. In my head if I were to write poetry it would be exactly like this but I’m not a poetry writer. Simply meaning this is the exact kind of poetry I love to read so I’m very happy to have been able to read this before launch!

Ocean and the owl was my favorite but they’re all so similarly beautiful, making me feel seen as they can relate to my own personal life even though the author is telling their own story. I also loved not only the imagery within the words but the actual art in between poems. It was a lovely touch!

Thank you so much, this is probably my favorite book of poems I’ve yet to read!

Thunder and daisy is a soothing collection of soul-stirring poetry that makes your soul embark on a journey filled with a symphony of emotional vulnerabilities and calming moments after a raging stormy night.

This book explores the themes of love, longing, heartbeat, uncertainties, and more. The poems convey the emotions and sentiments that often have eluded the thoughts. Heart's desire ruling over the brain's pragmatic explanations. The book is segmented into two parts namely thunder and daisy. The first part focuses on heartbreaks, loss, grief and regrets while the second part highlights the strength and resilience to bounce back from fall, rising like a phenomenal phoenix from the ashes of the past.

I was thoroughly impressed with the author's writing style. It's extraordinary and immensely immersive. Each poem builds up a crescendo of resonating feelings. While overthinking and uncertainties are tortuous, being broken and dissociated with one's own self can truly rattle your perception of life and reality. However the choice to let it all go and reinvent yourselves is completely in your hands. You have the power of turning those strike down as blocks stacked up to walk to your happiness. In other words, turn your tragedy into strength that no one can dismantle. Your energy is precious so protect it. The message for the section titled as "Daisy" is clear; love yourself and prioritise your happiness.

I love the simple illustrations that profoundly went well with poems. I'd highly recommend this book to all the poetry enthusiasts. It's a must read.

“There will always be some version of you lost in me.

“You’re more of a stranger than when we first met.

“Love hurts
But it feels too good
Not to love again.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me this ARC! It in no way impacts my review 🩷

I haven’t picked up a poetry book since probably highschool and wow am I so glad I saw this one.

Ocean and the owl, the dealer, unrequited, big love, bouquet, power in feeling, reclamation, masterful are all so beautifully writing that those poems alone are worth reading this.

Always the poet struck something in me I think about often and made me self reflect in a way that actually brought tears to my eyes.

Time of them poems being name delulu made me giggle out loud lmao.

Literally the only negative I have is that a handful of the poems had slightly off/weird rhyming schemes and it took me out of the book, particularly Ghost,
Denial, Dosnt matter where.

Overall- these 150ish poems were gorgeous and beautifully written and I’d 100% reccomend

I received “Thunder and Daisy from the author via NetGalley for the purpose of being an ARC reader. This is my honest review.

Thunder and Daisy is a beautiful collection of poems. While some are lighthearted and playful, others are deep, dark, and emotional. It was the latter that resonated with me the most. Reading this book was like reading about my own thoughts and feelings in ways I had never found to verbalize. Without knowing the details of the author’s experiences, you can still relate to the emotion in her words, demonstrating the universal experiences of love and heartbreak.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A bunch of poems about heartache and loss. More of an emo vibe than a country-western or R&B type of feeling.

Got a bit repetitive.

Thunder and Daisy by Mercedes Paradiso is a collection of poetry. Split into two chapters –Thunder and Daisy- the poems contained within focus mainly on love and hearbreak.

Thunder and Daisy is a specific type of poetry called instapoetry. This is fairly obvious when reading the book. The poems are intersected with pictures to represent the poem that precedes it. I feel that the pictures aren’t necessary and the poems speak for themselves. The poems in Daisy broke away from the more simplistic ones in Thunder. Seeing the difference between the two chapters was a great way to not have the poetry seem repetitive.

I’m glad I read Thunder and Daisy. I didn’t enjoy every poem included but I could feel the emotions that were put into the entire book. If you’re a fan of poetry, I definitely recommend checking out Thunder and Daisy. Since Mercedes Paradiso includes her plan for releasing a book in the future that will be linked to Thunder and Daisy, I plan on looking into her other works.

Full transparency this is my first time reading a poetry book. I have a goal for this new year of expanding my reading outside of my norm. This book was an absolutely beautiful collection of poems that were written straight from raw emotion. This collection is modern, real, and very enjoyable to read. Though I did not connect with each poem I did connect with quite a few and it was lovely to know that emotions I have felt in the past are the same emotions felt by someone else in a different walk of life. If you are a poetry lover or looking for something new to add to your collection I highly recommend you check this out when it released. As an added bonus there are illustrations throughout and they are simple yet lovely.🤍

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me the ARC for this book.

An absolutely stunning poetry collection split into two parts.

Thunder left me aching, the heartbreak and loss so relatable. And Daisy was beautiful to read and left me a little tearful a couple of times.

Seeing the progress through the poetry, like reading a story, you're so happy by the end of the book that the author has obviously found something so much better, both within herself and with someone else. It's the kind of self-love journey everyone deserves to have after being hurt so badly.

Excited to read more from this author and will absolutely be buying a physical copy!

I’m a big fan of R.H. Sin and Rupi Kaur and I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone who is also a fan.

A beautiful collection of poems that spoke to my soul in ways I don’t even know how to. The cadence and flow of some verses had me very surprised this was the author’s debut. Magical use of language that painted powerfully beautiful visuals in my head at some points and then heartbreaking ones at others. The illustrations were cute.

Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a beautiful book of poetry and I felt every word of it. The way the author was able to make me feel all of the emotions is truly amazing.

The poems were very relatable because they dealt with heartbreak and healing. I think so many others can relate to these feelings and I highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with these emotions.

I look forward to more from this author! Thank you so much to the author and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book!

A beautiful collection of poems that are incredibly heartfelt, deep from the soul, and mostly, vulnerable. The contrast between the two sections, “thunder and “daisy, is very well done. You can feel the darkness of “thunder drifting away as you sink into the light of “daisy. I personally really enjoyed the first part of the book! It was giving major TTPD vibes, which was magnificent! Thank you so much to NetGalley and mostly Mercedes Paradiso for this phenomenal debut novel!

I can’t recall the last time I actually read a poetry collection—aside from the occasional poem I come across on Instagram. Mercedes, I’m so glad I started with yours, Thunder and Daisy. It felt like stepping into your past and future, your experiences, dreams, and hopes, yet somehow they intertwined with my own. Your poems are effortless to read and even easier to remember long after the book is put down. I can’t wait for your novel to see how it all connects.

“i won’t dim my light for yours to shine brighter

thunder and daisy is a beautiful collection of poetry about everything from heartbreak to self-empowerment. Not only is it full of relatable poetry but it is accompanied by beautiful illustrations relevant to the poems. The poetry itself is very soothing and envelopes you in a big hug. My personal favorites were wasted time, bedtime and swimmer.

I’d highly recommend this collection of poetry to lovers of modern poetry, particularly what has been known as “Instagram poetry (also happens to be my favorite kind), also to those just staring to read poetry.

Big thanks to Netgalley and Mercedes Paradiso for allowing me to read an E-Arc of this collection.

This is the type of poetry I really enjoyed as I first was getting into poetry. The kind thay reflects on relationships and what matters to author. This collection was very enjoyable and had a soothing quality to it. There were plenty of poems that I bookmarked though out the read and the collection felt more polished the further you got into it.

"within your eyes, i'm alive
you're witness to my being
your gaze erases all my crimes
i forget the times i've been

Thunder and Daisy by Mercedes Paradiso is an illustrated collection of poetry that's about the storms we face and the flowers that bloom in their aftermath. It's an emotional, meaningful, and inspiring collection that follows the journey of heartbreak and feeling lost to finding yourself and love in the process.

I really enjoyed the writing style. It's mostly metaphorical, which I always enjoy, but it's not too hard to understand. It's accessible but poetic, and it's the perfect book to read if you feel too alone and lost in life and in your emotions. It's a lot about breakups - healing from them and finding yourself afterwards. About self-growth and the power in moving on.

I felt like a few of the poems lacked depth and focused a bit too much on the rhymes, and I wish the illustrations were a bit more detailed, but overall, this is a beautiful and inspiring poetry collection.

I enjoyed the writing and the imagery evoked throughout the collection. I also enjoyed the use of pictures relating to the preceding poem after many of the poems. I thought some of the rhyme schemes were a little forced and personally I liked the freeform verses better.

Sometimes people come into your life and wreck things. Some people help you grow. Occasionally, this is the same person. At least, that seems to be the gist of these poems. There's love, loss, anger, gratitude, and hope sprinkled throughout.

I'm sorry to keep saying this, but, listen, poets: capitalization and punctuation are your friends. They're tools you can use to make your book more understandable, not things to casually toss aside. Maybe you have a good reason for doing this, but if Mercedes Paradiso has a good reason, it's unclear to me, and I was constantly distracted wondering where the sentences begin and end. On the other hand, this poetry collection made brilliant use of sound and rhyme, making the angry moments angrier and the gentle moments softer. I admit that I like poetry that uses a lot more wordplay rather than just up and telling me how to feel, but I know some folks I could recommend this to who would find it very meaningful.

Thank you to BookSirens and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

When I saw thunder and daisy on NetGalley, I was interested enough to request it, but I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy this book, as I’ve never heard of this author before. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I started out thinking this was just going to be a 3 stars book, but I gradually bumped my rating up as I read more of her poems. I thought this author could write well, and some of her poems really connected with me. I thought this poetry book was good, I just didn’t think it was amazing. Some of the poems were good, but others were just average. I didn’t like when the author used modern words like vibe in her poems, it just felt weird to me, but that is a personal thing. Overall, I think this is a pretty good debut poetry book, and I hope the author continues writing.

NetGalley ARC

This set of poems was very dark and sad with the ending providing a hint of happiness and growth. However, I struggled as an avid poetry lover to connect with the overwhelming negative relationship themes presented as someone who is happily married. I would have loved to see the thunder section have been the negative and the daisy section have fully been about growth.

Thunder and Daisy is a collection of poems by Mercedes Paradiso. Her poetry is similar in style to many other modern day poets. While I did appreciate her writing I didn’t love her poetry as much as I love those of similar artists, such as R.H. Sin or Rupi Kaur, etc. I’m glad I read it though and recommend other poetry enthusiasts to give it a look!

I felt lucky to have gotten an ARC, and it was a fast read and flowed easily. I enjoyed a few of the passages and it’s been awhile since I’ve read a poetry work specifically so that was refreshing! Some of the modern phrasing was not for me entirely and I couldn’t quite resonate with it as much as I wanted to, so that’s the reason for the overall rating I went with.
