Chris Claremont is a writer of American comic books, best known for his 16-year (1975-1991) stint on Uncanny X-Men, during which the series became one of the comic book industry's most successful properties.

Claremont has written many stories for other publishers including the Star Trek Debt of Honor graphic novel, his creator-owned Sovereign Seven for DC Comics and Aliens vs Predator for Dark Horse Comics. He also wrote a few issues of the series WildC.A.T.s (volume 1, issues #10-13) at Image Comics, which introduced his creator-owned character, Huntsman.

Outside of comics, Claremont co-wrote the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy, Shadow Moon (1995), Shadow Dawn (1996), and Shadow Star (1999), with George Lucas. This trilogy continues the story of Elora Danan from the movie Willow. In the 1980s, he also wrote a science fiction trilogy about female starship pilot Nicole Shea, consisting of First Flight (1987), Grounded! (1991), and Sundowner (1994). Claremont was also a contributor to the Wild Cards anthology series.

An excellent ending, and Illyana makes a profound statement at the end of this book which I think sums up a conundrum of the human condition nicely, “Life was easier when I was ignorant. The more I learn, the more I discover how little I truly know and how dangerous that little knowledge can be.

Amazing ending to an amazing mini series! Why can’t comics be like this today?

Illyana decides to kill Storm rather than have her soul be sacrificed to Belasco’s leaders, the Dark Ones. Belasco gets upset and basically leaves her to survive on her own without her teleporting powers. He won’t let her die as he still has uses for her, but he will let her endure extreme conditions alone.

Illyana decides instead of trying to create life like Ororo did, she creates a sword, aka her soulsword. She goes back to face Belasco, kills S’ym, and isn’t able to bring herself to kill Belasco. He escapes, she goes through dimensions and it picks up at UXM #160 briefly when they pull her through, shocked to see her age double (7->14)

Illyana is walking through the snow talking about how she doesn’t know who she really is and that she has so much internal conflict. She has a few amazing quotes on the last page.

“But what is my age? I was born 7 years ago, yet I’ve lived over twice that—and in my soul, I feel as old as time.

“I wonder sometimes what it would be like had my life been normal and ordinary. I’ve been torn in so many pieces, I don’t know for certain which is the real me. I doubt I ever will.

“Nothing I can do about it—much as I’d wish otherwise, I’ve try my best with what I have. I suppose in the final analysis, that’s all that can—or should be said about anyone.

“An ending, can also be a beginning.

It doesn't matter whether you like fantasy, science-fiction, or just a good story. This story holds you and keeps thing interesting until the very end. You say you don't do comics? That's fine. Ignore the pictures and just read the story. If you come away from this without feeling some level of empathy for characters, there's probably no help for you. For me, the most meaningful quote from this would be:
"Life was easier when I was ignorant. The more I learn, the more I discover how little I truly know and how dangerous that little knowledge can be.
The entire series was like that.

Chris Claremont always does a good job writing, but the actual details of this story don't live up to the epic set-up for it in the Uncanny X-Men. The art is even more disappointing. It seems rushed and doesn't match the mood of the story. The demons of Limbo could've been in any old setting in comics. However, the cover to this issue is pretty cool, but the rest of the series should've looked like it but doesn't.

This mini series was so sad and beautiful. I actually feel so sad for Illyana who had such a bad experience in limbo, some of he situations were terrifying tbh.
