In the book Wanted An Honest Man Lindsey Lark number one by cricket Ramen we of course meet Lindsay Lark a kindergarten teacher who after going home with the flu fines her husband Anthony in bed with another woman. Needless to say they separate because he is in love with Shawna a dancer at a nightclub called The Office and at first Lindsay is devastated. To make matters worse he even takes Wendle they’re great mastiff who Lindsay loves. So when she orders Chinese food and handsome college student Jake delivers it the teacher is surprised to see he has her dog with him. She finds out he is dog sitting for Shauna something that infuriates Lindsay. It isn’t long before her and Jake become friends but Jake has a secret. Soon however in the act of trying to get her self together her and her friend Laura take a vacation where she meets Emmett. He seems like such a proper gentleman after saving her and her best friend from dying in the snowy gorge but unfortunately like most men in Lindsey‘s life he two as a secret. Unfortunately for Lindsay it doesn’t seem like her year but things only get worse when she starts getting crank calls from a man she doesn’t know but seems to know her. Will Lindsay ever pull it together and be happy again will her life ever mirror the fairy tales she loves so much? Will she ever meet her prince charming or has she already met him? There’s so much more to the book, Wendle gets hit by a car Lindsay gets a pet bird Malcolm but will she ever get her Mr. right? Let me just say I read a lot of books sometimes more than two books a day and when I said this book was so good that I couldn’t put it down you can trust me. I have read some horrible books and some really great ones but I do think wanted an honest man is a book in a category all it’s own. I cannot wait to read the other books in this Siri‘s The characters in this book are wonderful Well with the exception of Anthony, Emmett, Shawna and Sean but everyone else is awesome. Lindsay is so lovable in this book is a great one if you love romance with a little drama you will definitely love this book. I certainly did. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
When I read a book I want to be kept guessing right to the end with surprising, but realistic plot twists. I want new twists to creep up on me and still be keep me guessing as the story nears its end. This is what I got with Wanted An Honest Man, along with a host of affable characters that quickly grew on me and for whom I wanted to see, in the main, the best happen to them. Lindsey grows as the story moves forward and for me this was one of the main attractions of the book. Far too often I have started reading a book only to find the characters feel wooden, but here is a character that’s warm, vibrant and full of life.
I liked the beginning as it starts out with "Once Upon a Time." Immediately you are hooked as you enter the life of this teacher and the struggles that are constantly surprising and twisting all the way throughout the entire novel. There is some disturbing dialogue about a young boy that may be hard for some parents to handle. It was a jaw-dropper for me. Definitely suspenseful! It's a wonderful tale of mystery, animals, children, romance and more! I could not put this book down until I had read the whole thing!
I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lindsey, a kindergarten teacher, is married to handsome and successful Anthony; she has everything she could want in life, or so she thought. One fateful day, arriving home early and feeling ill, she hears muffled voices from upstairs. Investigating further, she discovers her worst nightmare- her husband in bed with another woman. Her world comes crashing down when Anthony leaves her for Shawna, a young and voluptuous stripper, then subsequently files for divorce. What follows is a tumultuous year, with Lindsey grasping at the remaining threads of her life and the evolution of her self-discovery.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story from the beginning. The plot focuses predominantly on Lindsey’s failing marriage and the impossibility of being with the love of her life. The plot is cleverly mixed, comprising aspects associated with trust in relationships and touches on abuse. Cricket Rohman has created an eventful read that will trigger a plethora of emotions from start to finish.
Wanted: An Honest Man divulges how resilient a woman can be when faced with life-changing crises following one fiasco after another. The character development is excellent; I sensed the multitude of emotions from love, despair, depression, and fear and wanted to smack Anthony more than once! The dialogues are fluid, coherent, credible, and realistic. I could not put the book down, rooting for Lindsey to achieve the life she deserved, and by the last page, I was not disappointed!
I recommend this book to those who love novels infused with intriguing liaisons and a twist.
“But not now. I could never be with him again. I have a new understanding of what is important in love and in life, and he doesn't fit the description. I'm certain of that. But what about you? What will you do now?
Once upon a time, a newly divorced kindergarten teacher went to the ball. At the ball she met all sorts of people: her ex husband and his bizarre new girlfriend; a talking bird who became her new roommate along with the dog her ex had taken after the divorce; the pet sitter/bartender/delivery man who seemed to keep popping up; and social service people when they had to report a parent for hurting one of her kinder kids. Then there was an older Prince who wasn’t so charming, many schoolteachers who learned and taught one another, another prince who was more charming, and, finally, she got rescued by the man who loved her animals, leaving her with a choice or two about how the story ends....
This is a long term Mt.TBR for me, and I was also reading the second Lindsey Lark book at the same time. While the second is really in the mystery, this one’s more a contemporary romance novel, as well as reading like a first attempt at writing one. It’s not as compelling as book 2, but there are sad, funny and awkward parts that make sense all together. It’s an interesting story. Recommended 4.5
This is book one of the Lindsey Lark series and the main character is someone who was orphaned as a child and grew up remembering happier times by reading lots of fairy tales and uses them in her job as a kindergarten teacher, reading them to the children. She thought she was happily married to the love of her life, like in the fairy tales she reads, until she comes home ill one day and finds her husband in bed with another woman! He leaves, saying he is actually in love with this much younger and better looking model and even comes back to take away their shared dog, Wendell. She has to keep it together for the sake of the young and lively children that she works with in class, but finds it difficult to cope without someone at home to talk to or keep her company. Only the friendship of Laura, another early year’s teacher at her school, keeps her somewhat sane, whilst she hopes her ex-husband will come back!
Laura finds out the name of her rival and reveals that the other woman is called Shawna and is a dancer or stripper at a club called The Office! Lindsey ends up calling for a Chinese takeaway one night and gets a welcome surprise when the delivery driver, Jake, turns up with Wendell in tow! He has been asked by Shawna to look after him for a day or so, and it is all extra money for him as he works a couple of different jobs to support his studies. Lindsey doesn’t want to be alone, but soon finds herself attracting a few different men, some three months after her split, once she goes back out into the world a bit more. She finds Jake attractive, but believes him to be far too young for her and she isn’t ready yet, or so she tells herself. He is actually doing his thesis on women alone, and already has three subjects and finds himself writing and asking lots of questions of both Lindsey and Laura, not realising that the two know each other, until much too late.
Lindsey keeps herself busy with the children, but they are not always so easy to manage and a couple of them are raising some serious concerns. A new animal comes into her life, a bird found in her garden, that must have been someone’s family pet, and she names him Malcolm. He keeps her company for all those nights when she can’t get Wendell back round to hers. A series of attempts at new relationships leave her wanting more and unhappy with her progress, but the children always keep her going, even when she is at her lowest. She can throw herself into her work and a new production at school, to take up all her time. Jake continues his investigations into his subjects, finding out some hidden secrets along the way, as he begins to fall for one of them. Some interesting situations occur for Lindsey, along the way, as a new journey begins as her life changes.
An interesting read, which starts with the obvious wife finding her husband in bed with another, but goes off in so many different directions as she also ends up a stalker, gets strange phone calls and odd gifts left at her door and work. Losing her dog as well I think was more of a shock than her husband leaving, as he wasn’t the best company as she starts to realise, once she has time to think about their relationship. Whether she will find her happily ever after with one of the men she meets along her new life journey, is for you to read and find out. She is a survivor and whilst she lives for her work, it also helps to ground her in reality and her own fairy tale. This is the first book I have read by this author and I Ioved its complexity, so I bought it as well. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Wanted: An Honest Man is about one year in Lindsey’s life. The story is about her job as a teacher, men she’s dating during the year and her ex-husband and his new girlfriend.
Even though there was few small ‚mysteries I didn’t see any suspense in it and I couldn’t care less about the characters. Actually I didn’t like Lindsey because she was so I cannot find the right word, sorry - Emmett stole her money and she didn’t do anything about it. I know he has few aliases and police couldn’t help her but still she should do something. At least scream or cry. Especially when she took a loan for the money!
There was only two interesting things: first - revealing Shawna’s secret and talking about her childhood; second Bobby’s abuse.
Although the writing was nice and wasn’t hard to read this book, the story didn’t grip me and I just counted pages to the end.
*** I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I have reviewed a few books from this author and have always enjoyed them. I decided it was time to start reading more of her works. I'm starting this project with Lindsey Lark #1 - Wanted: An Honest Man.
The Quick Thoughts: I loved the connection with believing in Fairytales. The book reads smoothly and quickly. Themes: Romance, Light-suspense, Divorce, Childhood trauma, Teachers, Bestfriends, Starting over, LGBTQIA
Overall: Wanted: An Honest Man is an easy read with a few spots that get pretty deep. You can keep it light or delve deeper into the problems the characters encounter.
There is enough mystery thread woven through the story to keep you turning the pages. Several plot twists occurred, some I saw coming, and a few were complete surprises.
The characters have flaws, and I was quick to love or despise several people. A few I waffled on several times, there's your intrigue. As always in Ms. Rohman's novels, there is a fabulous dog. I need Wendall to visit me.
This book is the first in a series. There were no cliffhangers, but you are left wanting to know more.
Fans of romantic intrigue should enjoy this book immensely. Although, for me, friendship was also a compelling theme throughout.
This review is my honest, unbiased opinion of a book I purchased.
This review was also published on my website found in my bio.
This book, which perfectly balances romance with just the right amount of mystery, depicts the bittersweet development of a young lady attempting to make sense of her chaotic life. The main character, Lindsey, is a stunning and gifted teacher who is resilient and optimistic in spite of being betrayed by her ideal partner and having her dog taken. This doesn't end here; she starts getting strange, ominous phone calls. Men find her even though she doesn't want to be alone and isn't ready to look for new love. She meets a new guy in this way who expresses interest in her.
Her life, her situations, and her emotions will keep you hooked on the story. Although the start of the brief introduction and laying the foundation of the scenario is a bit slow, it gets more and more interesting with each page. I was glued to her life until I put the book down. I can vouch for a drama-filled read this time.
Lindsey Sommerfield is a young kindergarten teacher with big dreams for her pupils and a fairytale marriage. But as you read Wanted: An Honest Man by Cricket Rohman, you watch her life fall apart. Men cross her path for different reasons, causing nightmares. Some of their lies are known right off, and others take time to unravel. She begins to think the only reliable love in her life is her animals and an old friend, Laura.
It is a struggle to not reveal the intricate relationships Lindsey has with the men who walk through her life without giving away any spoilers in Wanted: An Honest Man. Cricket Rohman is a master writer who keeps you intrigued and mystified as truths are uncovered. The author’s sense of humor lightens the mood of the plot when it gets too serious. Overall, I will remember this novel with a smile. And I will check out more of her work.
I loved this book. I consider Miss Rohman a story teller. Like the story tellers of old she grabs your attention from the first page and keeps your attention to the end. Lindy's a kindergarten teacher who has a hard time getting over the break up of her marriage. She didn't want the divorce, her husband found a new love. This story has many twists and turns as she attempts to find a new life. Men who take advantage of her. The characters are very good. Especially the dog. You might be able to find out the problem with her ex's new love before the end of the book but there is still a good twist on the last pages. Highly recommend
Wanted: An Honest Man (The Lindsey Lark Series Book 1) by Cricket Rohman is a well-written book and charmingly written. Lindsey has just gone through a divorce, but despite that, still believes in the kind of love that is a fairy tale. As a teacher, she has a lot going on in her life. A new man piques her interest, but is she ready for that especially with all of the strange happenings going on in her life? This is a fun read, the writing has a light touch that pulls you in. The atmosphere and scenery are well-described and create a real sense of time and place. Well-described characters round out the story. A fun read and recommended.
WANTED: AN HONEST MAN is a compelling and emotionally charged read that beautifully balances romance, mystery, and personal growth. Lindsey, the protagonist, faces heartbreak and confusion after being betrayed by the man she loved, setting off a series of events that challenge her in ways she never expected. As she navigates strange phone calls, the presence of a potential stalker, and a budding attraction to an unexpected man, readers are taken on a journey of suspense and self-discovery. With a charming, unpredictable plot and relatable, well-developed characters, this novel keeps you hooked from start to finish. A must-read for fans of romantic mysteries.
Wanted: An Honest Man (The Lindsey Lark Series Book 1) by Cricket Rohman is such a fun read. I loved the characters and was very enjoyable. This story has everything you want in a book, romance, Light-suspense, Divorce, Childhood trauma/abuse, Teachers, Bestfriends, Starting over. Very enjoyable and will read more of her books.

I was asked to read and review the 3rd book of this series which in my mind required me to read Books 1 and 2 first. Okay, so I have a little OCD. I am so glad I did. I enjoyed this book by Cricket Rohman greatly. Lindsey is a little too trusting, both of her husband and of the men who come into her life. The perfect blend of life, romance(s), humor and mystery.
You will love everything about this book, the story line, the characters, everything. It's well written, pulls you in and keeps you turning the pages. The characters are easy to get to know and well developed.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I liked the book. The storyline was great, kept you reading past your bedtime. I would think the author has had some experience in dishonesty and was able to use her life lessons to place into words the relevance of honesty, that along with being a teacher. Well written!
Very interesting story that allowed true passion to prevail. Life can bring twists and turns but if you let yourself feel it can surprise your reactions to living life to it's fullest.
It is an exciting book that mixes mystery and romance to tell the story of Lindsey, a young woman going through tough times.
Lindsey is a talented and beautiful teacher known for being strong and positive. But her life changes when the man she loves betrays her and steals her dog. On top of that, she starts getting strange and scary phone calls, making her think she might have a stalker.
The book is delightful and spontaneous, with a storyline full of emotions that keeps readers interested from beginning to end.
I really tried to read this book, and even read beyond the point at which I wanted to throw things, but it was just too awful to get beyond the first section. The pace is slower than molasses. The prose are filled with seemingly inconsequential minutiae. The plot seems to be absent, and the characters are shallow and undeveloped.
At 20% into the novel the only thing that has happened is the husband is caught in adultery, leaves his wife for a 20 yr-old stripper, and the wife, Lindsey, just feels sorry for herself. Lindsey, aka the main character, is absolutely not sympathetic. She's enraging in her weakness. One expects a woman whose husband has left her for another woman would be depressed and feeling sorry for herself. That bit isn't surprising. What is surprising is that when he takes the dog, she gets angry and *then* falls back into the pit of self-pity and inaction. There's a brief glimmer of hope that she's going to take him to court and sue the pants off of him because of how he's treated her, but then...nothing...nothing but an unimportant principal observation day and new lyrics for the 12 Days of Christmas song. She has a best friend who doesn't even *mention* the word divorce, who doesn't suggest that she get mad and get even, who doesn't suggest that she forget the lying, cheating scumbag and stop waiting for him to come back because she's worth more than that. What kind of friend is that???
Then we find out a bit more about Lindsey's childhood in foster care, and then things definitely don't make sense. Having had no personal experience with foster care, only the stories of friends and what's on the news, I understand that it makes you cynical and jaded early on. That the insecurity makes you learn not to trust people. So Lindsey's actions become even more incongruous with her character. All of this makes for a boring and confusing story that I absolutely had no desire to keep reading. Usually, if a book lacks a plot, but has compelling characters, I'll keep reading. But when both the plot AND the characters are lacking, what's the point? It certainly isn't going to improve; so I'm not going to waste my time to find out if she grows a backbone or if someone finally gives her some good advice. I'm done. Thankfully, this was a freebie.
If you've read this book, and know that it drastically improves, please comment with what page I should skip to. Thx in advance!
Wanted: An Honest Man (The Lindsey Lark Series Book 1) by Cricket Rohman is the first book I have read from this author. The first book in three. The first thing that intrigued me about reading this book was the fact that the characters live in Arizona. Yeah same place that I do. I will say the author was right on spot with all her Arizona references which makes me really happy. I also love this genre, Women’s Fiction, Romance, Contemporary and some action and adventures. There are lots of twists to keep your mind thinking of what is going to happen next. I also enjoyed reading the story, Lindsay is a kindergarten teacher, she is sweet and smart when it comes to being a teacher. But her personal life is not going well. She is married to Anthony and well he leaves her for Shawna, a young stripper. Oh and by the way he is a doctor. She also has her best friend Laurie who is also a teacher with her at school. They grew up together in foster care. Lindsay seems like the perfect teacher, and that she really enjoys teaching her students. I really felt the author did a fantastic job with Lindsay’s character. She is very likeable and maybe a little gullible but we can all grow and she is young. Oh and there is the young cute Chinese food take out driver. Jake, what a great character, I wont tell you to much about him but I like him. All the characters are interesting and make the story. I really loved the book right from the start, the plot moved along at a perfect speed, the story was never dull and I couldn’t wait to read the whole book. The adventures of Lindsay were fun. The very last adventure I felt was a surprise, I know I would never do that. I can’t tell you what it is, you will have to read the book. I enjoyed the writing style and felt the author did a great job. I felt the twist in the story were fun and some unexpected. For me the book was nice and fast paced. I can’t wait to read the 2nd book in the series. For the most part this is a clean romantic book. But there was sex, not really descriptive and some swear words. There were some issues with a few of the children and I loved how Lindsay handled that. I mean being a teacher you have a lot to deal with. This book was fun and seem so real life. I give it 5 stars for being really good, entertaining me and making me want to read the next book.
I first met Jake and Lindsay a bit later in their story as a couple.
They have an exceptional beginning, and more challenges ahead.
Even couples with unusual chemistry have bumps in the road, especially when sometimes members of a couple go through something apart, yet need support together.
an exciting introduction to a couple that is really boring - and often with hidden threats and dangers.
I love the amazing dog, who reminds me of companion guardians who shared some of their lives with me.
A piece if me likes to believe that those brave hearts are running, playing, of course snacking somewhere out there with their fellow brave hearts- much loved and much missed.
This is an exciting journey for Jake and Lindsay.
looking forward to reading more of the pieces I missed, and meeting the familiar book friends again at other points in their stories.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Though teachers will love WANTED: AN HONEST MAN, I think mystery, romance, and adventure readers will enjoy it, too. Along with amusing, though sometimes heart-wrenching classroom scenes, Lindsey’s life path takes her to the Grand Canyon where a treacherous hiking experience occurs, North Dakota for an extraordinary conference, and the Zuni Mountains to hide out.
Her ex-husband, Anthony (he’s a rat) and Lindsey’s main nemesis, Shawna, (I’d describe her, but that would be a huge spoiler.) spend time in Venice and add shocking twists and turns to the story. I could relate to the grad student, Jake. And everyone will love Wendell, Lindsey’s mastiff. It’s an unusual and entertaining novel. I’m on to the second book in the series.
Lindsey is a kindergarten teacher who thought she had a fairy tale marriage and that everything was fine. That is until she comes home and catches her husband with another woman. Her world nose shattered and she does not have a clue what to do. The story is a slow burn and I found the main character to be somewhat if a dimwitted. Shw is intelligent but makes poor choices and is wondering of her husband would come back. Let sleeping dogs lie. He cheated move on. For this reason I was not to happy with the book. She was acri g like a victim instead of taking charge of her life and moving on.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I wish I had loved this book as much as other reviewers did. I found the writing juvenile. I also was so ticked off with the attitude of the main character, Lindsay. I had trouble reading about her lamenting that she wishes her cheating bastard of a husband would come back to her. She was written with such a whimsy twist that I cringed with every silly decision she made. If I had read this book before saying I would review the author's newest third book I wouldn't have put in the request to review. I'm crossing my fingers that the writing matures just a little. Three stars is generous.
This book was very interesting! I just had to keep turning the pages. There were a lot of very different yet well developed characters. Since Lindsey was a teacher, even a few of her students were great characters that added to the story! I adored Wendell the dog and Malcolm her talking bird. There is some suspense, some romance, a lot of plot twists and some unexpected turns! I really enjoyed this story! I received a copy of this book from BookSprout and the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Lindsey's life has imploded. Her husband left to be with his stripper girlfriend, and took her beloved dog, Wendell. The rest of the men she meets have trouble with honesty. There's mystery and suspense, some of it predictable, more of it surprising. The story moves at a relaxing pace, and Laura's friendship is a nice constant in Lindsey's life. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but it was such a pleasure to read. I've got plans to read the others in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
