An unexamined life isn't worth living. The 8th century poet Abbasid poet Abu Al-Atahiya is one of the most important and Arabic language poet to ever have lived. While his early work was related to a life of debauchery, after a turning point, he became well-known for his philosophical poetry on aesceticism.
Life isn't to be wasted for Abu Al-Atahiya in search of trivial pleasures and riches. We're going to do, so while we can, we should be aware of life's precious value instead of simply wasting it. In his poetry, we find one of the earliest examples of philosophical poetry in Arabic literature.
