Once upon a time

An orphaned boy runs away, knowing he is better off in solitude
than in the company of those with whom he does not belong.
However, Little Red is not meant to be alone,
his crimson halo a calling card to those far and wide.
And so off he goes into the woods to attract the eye of a wicked wolf.

Better to see you with.
Better to hear you with.
Better to taste you with.

Astoundingly, the woods are not a frightening place,
and Little Red flourishes among the weeds and thorns until he isn’t so little anymore.
And the wicked wolf he’s gone to catch?
Well, this forest has more than one, and perversely,
their snapping teeth and sharp claws make him feel at home.
Years after walking into the woods, Red is expected to walk back out,
carrying with him the head of the most dangerous predator.

But those who sent him into the forest failed to take into
account that not everyone fears the bite of the big bad wolf.
Some crave it

RED is book 5 in the House of Misfits series by Cambria Hebert. RED is a Male/Male romance modern version of Red Riding Hood. RED contains dark themes, a Korean Gangster, Opposites attract, Secrets and Twists, Hurt/Comfort, Possessive/Obsessive and Found Family. Oh, and of course spicy times. Please also note there are mentions of off-page child abuse some readers may find uncomfortable.

RED is the final book in this series and would be a more enjoyable experience if the other books were read first. If you read it on its own previous plots and storylines do come into play in this book and therefore may be spoiled.

"You have freckles everywhere," he murmured, gazing at my hand.
I tried to tug away, a fierce blush already pooling in my cheeks. His grip tightened to just this side of painful, and then he lowered, brushing his lips over my knuckles.
I bit into my lower lip, and though completely embarrassed, I could not look away.
"I like them," he confessed, steam wafting up to try and obscure his face. "They're pretty."
I snatched my hand back, making a face. "I am not pretty."
"You are to me."
Again, I say, this asshole. How dare he make me feel things I've never felt before?

oh my god I FELL IN LOVE. i've read a lot of jealous-possessive-codependent (these tropes hit different to me, some of my favorites 😭) type of characters, but Shim is no doubt one of the most possessive mf i've ever come across and Beau being one of the most needy and the way they were just codependent towards each other?? I LOVED IT. i was grinning throughout most of this book, honestly. i loved both mcs. i loved the side characters. there's even mafia shit going on and everything was just ott and chaotic and it all worked for me.

i've only read and now this from the series, but the plots do intertwine with each book so i'd recommend reading the series from the beginning if you don't wanna be lost and care about the plot but, if you're like me who just cares about the romance, it's fine to skip around. i most likely will get back to the rest of the books eventually though bc all the side characters and each couple's dynamic intrigued me (especially Earth?? i have a feeling i'm gonna like him lol).

Convincing you to read this book in idk-how-many-words-i-didn't-count or less...

We've got codependent, needy, hella jealous/possessive, borderline fated-mates MCs...with lots of high quality smut, kissing, nuzzling each other, found family, mystery/action (cops, criminals, misfits, gangsters...the whole nine yards), and a sprinkle of angst.

Oh! "Mine, mine, mine. Don't touch what is mine or I'll skin you alive...grrr"😏

“He’s an instinct for me. Gravity."

It may have been a but OTT at times but if you know me, you know I ate that shit up 😋

P.S. if you haven't read the other books cause you only read MM, like me, I think you should be fine piecing some 'missing' aspects together especially at the beginning

i'm so sad because how is this the same author who wrote Wish??? 😭 this had ott possessiveness, protectiveness, jealousy, co-dependency and all those mine mine mine vibes as Wish but it just didn't feel the same.

beau and shim have been roommates for a while now and they hate each other. beau wakes shim up from a nightmare (which results in shim choking beau to the point of him bruising badly) and all of a sudden they like each other. the switch didn't make any sense. they have been roommates for this long and this is what causes shim to become possessive to the point where he would die for Beau?? i mean, i love that but how? how they started liking each other was not believable. they went from bickering to having these all consuming feelings somehow. throughout the rest of the book, i still had no idea why these two even liked each other.

this whole undercover cop plot was just ridiculous imo. it felt unrealistic af. how was beau even an undercover cop for years? he acted like a child. it seemed like he was 18 rather than this special undercover cop for the fbi for 5 years. it was also boring and i could have cared less for it. maybe if i was actually invested in the romance i would have liked it.

the sex scenes. firstly, shim would kill someone because they threatened beau and after he killed them, leaving the body there, he would go have sex with beau, shower, then have sex again WHILE LEAVING A DEAD BODY THERE. i think there are more pressing matters like what ??? 😭 this happened more than once.... it was just so weird and gross. now, the actual sex, wth was that? the sex scenes sucked. i didn't find them hot at all which was surprising because the sex scenes in Wish were top tier. i actually wanted to skip them. plus i was holding out that i'd finally feel a connection between them but then i'd just get a sex scene and then want to skim it. 😭

anyway, i wanted to try the other books in the series if i liked this, but i won't be now unfortunately.

I'm so thankful to Gloria for recommending me this book! ❤️

Red was PERFECT for my obsession with possessive MCs. 👌 We have possessive/obsessive main characters, fated mate vibes even though this is a contemporary story, amazing touching moments, hot smutty scenes, found family (I loved it!) and so much more that I won't talk about because of spoilers. I'm just gonna say that what people see from the outside is not often what it's actually inside.

Also, I didn't read the previous books and anyone who would like to read this as a standalone will be confused in the beginning. I didn't know who were all these people, what are their roles and what was happening. So, I'm thankful Gloria was there to explain it to me. ❤️

I won't say anything about the plot because one of the best things about it is reading and founding out for yourself!

"You think I could do it?"
"You're a fucking genius. Of course you can. But no pressure, okay? Just do what you want. Do it for fun."

He tasted like second chance, but he isn't. I don't need a second chance with Beau because I don't have to be anything other than exactly what I am.

If he couldn't breathe, then I would be his breath. If his lungs had forgotten how to work, then I would teach them again.

P.S. If you have recommendations for books with possessive MCs, send them all my way! I need more books like this one with all the MINE, MINE, MINE and touch him and I'll kill you vibes.

Ohmygosh I loves this😭 I was a little intimidated by the length but it went by so fast because I could not stop smiling this was right up my alley. Red was so needy and Shim was such a sucker for him😭 I think...I think I may actually WANT to read the entire series and not just go back to Fletcher's book😳

⭐︎ 3.5 stars rounded down! ⭐︎

So, unfortunately I didn't end up loving this as much as Fletcher and Ethan's story.

For me it ending up being so slow with bouts of it not being slow. But I was never rushing to read this and finish it. And it being over 400 pages didn't help. I spent a week reading this, and it was entirely because I just could not keep a steady reading flow with it.

But I kept wanting to come back once I did indeed feel a connection between Beau and Daeshim around 30% in. If I hadn't felt the connection between them, I don't think I would have kept going with this soon after the 30% mark.

It took some time for me to feel that chemistry. Maybe my not reading the M/F books in this hindered that - maybe we got scenes of their connection in those books, I don't know. But on the other hand I feel like that isn't that big a factor, because I read Fletcher and Ethan's book without having read the first book and I fell in love with them together, so I don't put too much onus on that aspect of it.

I also got introduced to them in the 4.5 installment before this, so I did have a sense of their dynamic before going into this.

So I just...I think the transition from them apparently not getting along and bickering all the time to all the sudden having feelings and then it being so all consuming...wasn't done the best.

I think that, in combination with the plot feeling...not very central to this, or more that it wasn't flowing well in the story, I think that's what made it so slow.

I mean, you'd think Beau finding a secret pedophile ring and Daeshim's past coming to haunt him in the form of the Black Rose (the mafia organization/family he comes from) trying to kill him would be super interesting, and it was...at times.

But that whole plot didn't come into play as a big part of this until near the end. So a big portion of this book was...not much happening, plus me feeling a disconnect between Beau and Daeshim for about 30% of this, and then still feeling like this rushed their romance, which just leant to this being so slow for me.

I did like their chemistry once 30% hit, I loved their sex scenes and their hyper possessiveness of each other (although even for me, when Beau even got territorial over , I had to laugh a little. That went a little over the type. There's crazy possessive and then there's...well, just straight up wild possessiveness. But for the most part I loved their possessiveness of each other.)

Really, once I started to feel it between these two, that's what made me give this 3.5 stars. They really carried this for more. Otherwise I don't think the plot would have saved this at all for me. The rating would have been lower (or a full on DNF) if I hadn't felt it between these two.

The rounding down instead of up though, is definitely because of the slowness. It took me forever to finish this and that's not a good sign. Definitely worthy of being rounded down.

I also was so annoyed near the end when Beau

So that served to make my rating go down as well.

So overall I enjoyed these two together and thought they had great chemistry. The ending was a little rushed, but for these two kind of worked anyway. Overall these two carried this story for me and kept me invested and kept me coming back to it every time I felt pulled away because it was going slow.

But much could have been improved upon and the plot just didn't hold me interest at all, and Beau's stupid decision making near the end just didn't lend itself well to this story.

I'd recommend this just for Beau and Daeshim, once that 30% mark hit, I was all in for these two. But the rest...eh, I could take it or leave it.

So in the end this was just likable, but could have been way better. I still look forward to more M/M romances from this author in the future.

I had high, high hopes for the book after readingMerry Misfits. The tension between Beau and Daeshim was palpable and I was excited to see it reach a breaking point. And for the first quarter of the story, I couldn't get enough. But somewhere along the way, things broke down and I was left feeling disappointed.

I think a lot of this stems from the character Beau is 'portraying' himself to be versus who he actual is. For the last five books, we have seen Beau as aloof, strong, and floating in the background. But this story made Beau seem like such a fragile, vulnerable character. He is constantly on the verge of a mental breakdown and there were just some serious gaps in his character arc progression. There was no flow to him, he was suddenly crippled with anxiety after spending years being this care-free bad-*ss.

I think the lack of fluidity in Beau as a character bled into a lack of fluidity in his relationship with Daeshim. I mean yes, there was sexual tension and they have been watching each other but things went from zero to 100 real fast sexually with absolutely no communication. I was actually concerned for Beau who went from being a virgin to having sex 4-5 times within a 24 hour period. Oh and let's add in a confession of love too; it was just too much, there was no pacing and the solution to Beau's anxiety was Daeshim's d*ck. Which, I had no problems with but I really wanted these two develop emotionally along with their physical relationship. And that is where the story was lacking severely for me.

In terms of Beau and Daeshim's individual storylines, I liked them. It is definitely a raunchy, raw, and dark version of Little Red Riding Hood. Beau is drowning in his secrets and Daeshim's past is quickly catching up with him, making for endless danger and page-turning action. The cameos from the previous books in the series, as well as the epilogue provided closure all around. I just wish there was some finessing to Beau as a character and him and Daeshim as a relationship.

This book left me breathless. I have struggled to write a review because I feel like I can’t give this book the justice it deserves. I’ve read the Misfits series, but this is my absolute favorite one. Beau needs someone to love him, to possess him. Daeshim needs to be loved for all his flaws and to be Alpha. They admit to themselves and each other that they are perfect for each other. This book had so much love and tenderness, yet so much passion and animalistic need. It was everything a true love story needs. I have so many quotes highlighted. The book was masterfully written and the intimacy was magnificent. I could feel it coursing through me as I read it. I just kept hearing the song Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran as I read all of intimate scenes between Beau and Daeshim. Everyone deserves love and Cambria created perfection with this M/M romance. I’m still reeling over this one and will be for quite awhile.

*I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been looking forward to Beau’s story since I read Prince. Even though that was the second book in this series, it was the first one I read. Beau was so quiet and unassuming, yet very protective of Fletcher. I had this picture of him in my head that he was this big tough guy with a soft heart. That was the impression that came through the narrative. He was always hunched over his keyboard at his computers doing his hacking. I loved his character.

So imagine my surprise when he turned out to be nothing like I had in mind…I didn’t like it. It turns out that I didn’t particularly like Beau in his own story at all. He was too much like Fletcher. Ms. Hebert said in her author’s note at the end of the book that she wanted to make him “strong. I didn’t see that come through at all. He came across as too needy and weak. And he’s supposed to be an FBI agent?

I liked Daeshim, but I felt that too much focus was put on his wolf tattoo. The storyline of someone being out to kill him started off interesting, but fizzled. The way it was wrapped up, with Kwan being sent back to Korea, was too simple and quick. To have him show up at Blacklight and throw everything together felt like a quick fix, almost an afterthought. The fact that Beau thought that someone was after him just felt like paranoia compared to what was happening with Daeshim. It would have been better to have one major conflict with a solid resolution. Why even bring Kwan back? With the way it played out in the end, it all felt pointless except to reveal what fortune was left to Daeshim when his mother died.

I’m also wondering how much research Ms. Hebert actually did of how things work in the FBI. If Beau were a simple computer geek, the Director of the FBI probably wouldn’t have been his direct supervisor. The Director of the FBI is appointed by the President of the United States and has a whole team beneath him to supervise his agents. He wouldn’t be in the field. Beau would likely be supervised by someone in the Cybercrimes or the Science and Technology branch of the FBI. And Beau certainly wouldn’t have been blackmailing him the way he did in the last chapter. The whole plot line was a farce. It would have been better if he had just been a regular undercover cop.

Overall, I am really disappointed with Beau’s story. He was nothing like he seemed to be in all the previous books. The story started strong, but quickly unraveled for me. I’d rather have my initial impression of Beau in my head. The bonus epilogue was nice with Ivory having her baby.

I enjoyed getting to read Beau and Daeshim's book and hate that this is the end of the Misfits series. The merry band of misfits grew on me.

Beau was a surprise in this one. We knew he was a computer geek, probably a hacker. But that was about it. He was loyal to his misfit family and was always there for them. He was quiet, so we didn't know a whole lot about him. I was surprised that the author wrote him with a lot of the same qualities as Fletcher though. It made Beau come off a bit weak, despite the fact that the author wanted him to be strong. I mean I do believe he was strong to take on as much as he did over those 5 years. He did a lot for his family and really protected them to keep them all together. He hid his anxiety somehow and honestly it seemed a bit confusing because Beau wasn't that timid and scared when around others. He only took on that meek personality when he was around Shim. It didn't make his character very believable and for that, I had to knock off a star. I liked Beau, but didn't like that a supposed FBI agent was made to look like a timid mouse.

Shim wasn't as scary as Earth in my opinion. But he was just as deadly. He was incredibly protective of Beau, almost too much when it came to anyone talking or touching his Beau. He was very much like Earth in that fierceness. I loved that he was strong enough to be there for Beau and protect him when Beau couldn't protect himself. He didn't always make his presence known, but he had Beau's back. He trusted Beau even after learning the truth of who he was. That took a lot of guts given Shim's Korean mafia family's past.

Their quick change from enemies to lovers came a bit too soon in the book for me. They went from snipping at each other to 'I love you's' early on in the book. I definitely saw the chemistry between them as something that could lead to a lasting relationship, but I figured it would take even longer to make it to that point. I guess when the heart knows, it knows though.

Overall, this was a great read. Were there some unrealistic aspects, yes. But I genuinely loved seeing Beau get his HEA and seeing Shim get his too after all he sacrificed to give Earth a chance at a better life.

However, as the story progresses, they begin to develop ⨍ꫀ꫶ׁׁׅܻׅܻᥣׁׅ֪ꪱׁׅꪶׁׅᧁׁ꯱ׁׅ֒ for one another, which grows into a possessive and obsessive relationship. While I typically enjoy this type of dynamic, other aspects of the story made it less satisfying.

The biggest issue was the lack of credibility in the plot. I can overlook grammar mistakes, but I need to believe that what happens in the story is possible, even in a fictional setting. When it was revealed that Beau was a , I found it hard to swallow.

Beau's background includes a troubled childhood in foster care, living in 40 different homes and even being homeless for a time. Given this tough upbringing, you would expect someone like Beau to be strong, but instead, he often comes off as very needy. He admits several times that he struggles with loneliness and anxiety, fearing abandonment, not to mention he's also touch-starved. (Let's not even get started on the ridiculous jealousy.)

🍕 When the guys order out for pizza, Beau can't even get a sausage one!

The story would've made more sense if Beau had been a hacker and a police informant, instead of a

A minor niggle is Daeshim labeling himself gay, after saying that he's been with both men and women. Sometimes with both at the same time! This makes him bisexual. 🙄

What I Liked:
🟊 The MCs' relationship that worked well for them. It had an Omegaverse (alpha/omega) vibe to it.
🟊 The descriptive, steamy sex scenes. (Even though it's definitely fiction―the MCs have frequent anal sex, and they substitute lube for anything on hand.)

I'm not a fan of the author's writing style―lots of similes, metaphors, and repetitious, negative thoughts. (I did some skimming.)

But at the heart of the series is likable characters, engaging plots, and a captivating group of individuals who have formed their own unique, found family.

The ending is what brought this book up to 4 stars for me. It was definitely the best part! I enjoyed seeing the MCs from the previous books and welcoming the new addition—it was so sweet. 🤗 I'm also happy that two of the couples finally got married, even if their weddings happened off-page, which was a letdown.

Red is the fifth and final book in the "House of Misfits" series. It's an inspired/retelling of the Little Red riding hood. We met Beau and Daeshim from the previous books.

I loved this one, Beau and Deashim may have taking the favorite spot from Ethan and Fletcher.

Beau is a character that was a lot different than I had expected. He was always in the background, so we didn't really get to know him much throughout the series. But now it all makes so much sense. I loved how his character's story unfolded. His anxiety is something I could relate too, the things he did for his family are admirable. He is soft, insecure but also a badass, super smart and just so strong. I loved Daeshim for him, he was wild, angry, harsh but he turned soft for Beau, how he payed attantion to things they nobody else did, how he protected him. Ughhh, I was swooning so much.

Their relationship is a bit darker than the other couples, it felt more of a Fated mates type of situation, with lots of marking scenes. I loved it. It makes me wonder if Cambria ever would write a dark romance. They have amazing chemistry, the smutty scenes were spicy, their bickering and fighting made me laugh a lot and I just loved their connection. The story was really interesting because Beau's whole job was a bit of a surprise for me, but it clicked really well with his character. The plot was well written and thought out and I had a great time reading it.

I liked how the story was wrapped up. This book really tied up all the loose ends and it all just came together so nicely. I wasn't bored at any point and tbh couldn't put the book down. There were some emotional scenes that tugged at my heart strings but mostly, I was just giggling with excitement. I just love the whole family and how everything came together. The little epilogue was so damm cute and I wanted more.

Cambria Hebert really put so much work into the diversity in this series. Every story was somehow unique, the couples all had their own charm to them. This series had lots of cheesy romance, found family, ridiculous scenarios, heartfelt moments, interesting characters, smutty scenes, diversity, suspense and funny dialogues. Somehow, these misfits just clicked together and even though I didn't love every book in this series, I really loved it. I had a lot of fun with this series and see myself rereading this in the future.

SECRETS, LIES, TORTURED PASTS, AND A COSMIC CONNECTION
“He’s instinct for me. Gravity.

A twisted take on a popular fairytale, Red is a bittersweet ending to the captivating Misfit series. It is intense, suspenseful, heartbreaking, passionate, touching and witty. I spent the entire night on this rollercoaster ride of emotions.

“He couldn’t breathe, I would be his breath.
Red and Daeshim explode off the page. The intimacy between these two is so magnetic. You can feel that desperate need they have for each other, and it comes deep from within them. This is where Cambria shines. I get to experience their unconditional, desperate, breathless kind of love. It's what kept me reading for more.
These characters popped up in previous books in the series, but they were a mystery. We learn who they are as they learn about each other. Red’s past has shaped him into a man who is starving to belong. To be wanted. My jaw fell to the floor when he revealed his big secret. I had to read it again! There is an innocence about him, and his loneliness is so tragic. I just wanted to hug this man throughout the entire book. Daeshim is his polar opposite. He’s brash, he’s aggressive and hot-headed. He is also extremely passionate and sinfully potent. He oozes sex and his tendency to be flirtatious makes you want to go back and “reread that line. My eBook looks like a pack of highlighters threw a party! His unabashed obsession, possessiveness, and acceptance of Red make my knees weak. He consumed me.
It's not all dark and heavy, though. We also get to experience a playful side of the fated couple. Also, some of the greatest moments in the book include the entire Misfit family together in one room. These scenes are masterfully done. We get to bear witness to all the quirks and kinks of each couple and how they operate as a family. I had to wipe my face profusely during a touching moment at a family meeting!
Last, and most certainly not least, is the author’s note. If you are a book junkie, you appreciate those extra nuggets about the fictitious world that just rocked your world. Cambria’s candid letter about how these beloved characters came to be is a gem. It offers a bit more insight into Red and Daeshim and her journey to tell their story. Thank you for that. With my whole heart, I suggest you get lost in the entire series. You won’t be disappointed.

I got invested in these characters and their stories in a way few books have managed. They are just SO unique, both within the series and compared to anything else I read. While the stories all differ, the found family theme runs strong throughout. The group expands, the dynamics change, but they are truly family through it all.

All of the books in this series are a bit darker than my typical reads, but this one is especially so. If I met Daeshim anywhere else, I frankly wouldn't like him, but his aggressive, domineering nature works for me here and makes sense in the context of where he came from and the things he's been through. Beau's backstory is equally tragic, and because of it, he NEEDS to feel like he belongs to someone. Daeshim and his protective alpha ways fill that role perfectly.

This book was intense. It had me hooked from the first page and I blew through the 400+ pages like it was a novella. I couldn't walk away from this story. There is action (both of the steamy and non steamy variety), suspense, passion and emotion (I actually teared up a couple times, which is fairly rare for me). It's not ALL heavy and dark though, there is some great snark and banter as well as some lighter hearted moments. I'm suffering from some serious book hangover after reading this, and I'm in major denial that this series has come to an end 😭😭😭

While these books are technically standalones, you really need to have read the series to understand the characters and their histories. At bare minimum, The Huntsman and The Beast are more or less required reading to not be a little lost with this one.

Wow. I have loved this whole series and Red is just as amazing.

Beau was quite the surprise. I never saw it coming. He is silence…He is always watching. He may be quiet but he always has eyes and ears on his Family. We have seen a lot of Daeshim and Beau together and what we see is them usually arguing. Hmmm. Is it hate or is it love

Daeshim and his possessiveness is exactly what Beau needs. He needs to feel love, touch, a connection. Daeshim gives Beau exactly what he needs. As the story develops, we learn more about both guys and what one of them is hiding.

Family. The Misfits. This is one heck of a found family. They know what it means to Love and Protect. This book was the perfect ending to the series. I also enjoyed the authors note and getting insight into how their love came about. I am sad to see this family come to an end but fingers crossed maybe Cambria will come up with something little in the future

The constant mentioning of the tattoo just kept putting me off this. This was a disappointing end to the series.

ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ ★★★★

I want to mention that I freaking loved this book even though I wanted to smack myself for not understanding some stuff in the beginning.

You see.. I was a bit confused because this is book 5 of the series and I needed time to understand what the fuck is going on.

Somehow though things still made sense and I could keep up. Ya know?

This book is supposed to be a retelling of red riding hood but like.. in a very.. different way?
I mean our red is an undercover cop/federal agent and the wolf is a.. criminal guy.

Kinda okay??? Kinda! I mean yes Daeshin isn't your typical prince charming but he owns his shit. He never claimed he's anything good.

The possessiveness of this man reached new levels. Beau's too. These two were rubbing on each other all the time because they have a kink with touching, smells, etc.. they were both weird af 👀

I expected a lot of action and drama because when you put someone undercover in a house with the "wolf" and the wolf realises that his buddy has secrets.. things will get explosive.

Expect a lot of cornering. A lot of barging. A lot of “don't touch what's mine shit. These two were completely nuts.

One was jealous of a shirt and the other of soap! And don't get me started with Beau that didn't like Daeshin getting touched.. by his FUCKING BROTHER 👀

No wonder his butt was always sore. This man was a slut for Daeshin's attention.

Did I think that all this jealousy had deeper-rooted emotions? Absolutely. These two came with baggage.

Seriously, aside from the whole drama and action thing.. I have to mention the smut. All the interactions between them ended up with Beau getting his neck sucked or getting his mouth eaten out or getting his ass fucked. Even when he was clearly sore as hell he kept offering Daeshin his body. This book is heavy on the spice!

But I wouldn't have it any other way. If I thought Beau was a slut for always taking it then I'm a bigger one because I enjoyed this shit.

Pretty sure that she actually meant to write this story with the main characters as shapeshifters or something because this story is so beyond over the top it’s hard to take it as anything but fantasy. It’s die-for-you, codependent to the point they can’t go a minute without touching, and “I can smell his emotions. Dramatic doesn’t quite cover it.
The boys know next to nothing about each other but they act like it’s a fated love and they won’t survive without the other. A bit cringy. The dominance and possessiveness is what I would expect from an abuser. Just saying. I realize it’s fiction and a lot of people really enjoy that level of possessiveness on paper but even for a book it was too much. Just the wrong side of ridiculous.

That said, did I hate it? No, but I didn’t love it either. I have it 4 stars because unless the book is total trash and unreadable, I give 3-4 stars. The content isn’t for me, but the writing and the plot were fine. Probably a few plot holes but, let’s be honest, a flawless plot is not what ppl like about books like this.

I have read wish, another book by this author, and it had that same possessiveness level so it shouldn’t have been a shock to me but it still was. I started liking this author from the series gear shark and I’m not finding I like most of her other series very much. Just a subject matter preference, because the writing itself is fine. Not outstanding, but if I liked the topics more it would be great.

I wanted this to be a 5 but it wasn't quite there for various reasons. 4.5

what I loved: Beau and Shim's banter and developing relationship - and the plot fit with the other pieces of the series. I loved how protective Shim was of Beau without the latter being a weak character. He showed his own strengths throughout the story and was still finally allowed to need someone else, who saw him for his true self. Also they were just really cute together a lot of the time. I especially liked Beau as a character. I love the development of quiet/nerdy characters as unexpected heroes.

what I did not like: the unrealistically fast development of their 'fated mates' arc - they go from barely talking to having sex all the time (including when people are right there or when they've just killed someone) and not being able to be without touching for like one second? Really?

And the weird over-protectiveness, like yelling at their own friends/family for just being in the same room with one of them not wearing a shirt or something - no one acts like this. It's too much.

I love a good fated mates story but these elements seemed OTT at times and took me out of the plot.

Also some of Shim's comments seemed really borderline weird (if you ever have sex with someone else again I'll kill them (?)) and I get he's an alpha male and everything but I think in 2022 we should admit that's DV, not a good relationship.)

“Little Red sent into the forest to find a wolf, but instead, he found home.

It took me awhile to warm up to the coupling of Beau and Daeshim. I thought for sure it would be Bree. CH spun this in a completely different direction.

There are some things I liked and some things I didn't like. Beau, for me, felt like a completely different person. I've read all the books in this series. I went in thinking of him one way, and he was portrayed in a completely different way. I liked the hidden identity angle. I didn't like how weak he came off. I get it. He was dealing with a lot of stuff. And none of his friends were aware of any of it, because they never pushed him into talking about his past, etc. Or noticed things about him. After living with him for FIVE YEARS.

The highlights for me (as always) was Fletcher and Ethan. I absolutely adore them. They're still my favorite couple in this series. And my favorite MM couple this author has written so far. Sorry Trent and Drew.

I love this family of misfits so very much!

Beau and Dashim have a lot of passion, which showed itself in various ways thru the story (& since they met, really). They snipe at each other at first, not ready to admit there's something there, but needing to be close just the same.

Once they share some intense circumstances & lean into each other... their relationship grows into such a beautiful and protective thing!

There are secrets to share, & Beau's are a doozy! Shim takes them in stride, giving Beau the strength and support he needs when sharing those secrets with the family. And the way the family - Earth, V, Ivory, Neo, Ethan, Fletcher, Ander, & Em - reacts is perfect!

Beau gives Daeshim a different kind of strength, that of allowing his heart to take in love and acceptance. Beau loves him for his flaws as much as his strengths, and gives the gift of trust.

Their story has suspense, humor, and a LOT of heat.
😯🤭🤫🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I'm sad to see the series come to a close, but Daeshim & Beau were the perfect story to wrap it up! Much love!!

I see you, Little Red

A unique fairytale retelling.
It's always the quiet ones who tend to harbour the biggest secrets. For years, one Grimm has been hiding and keeping a secret bigger than the Huntsman's. This whole time, Red's polished each of the apples in his basket, kept them shiny and out of the hands of those eager to snatch them up, and nobody even knew. He's dangled carrot after carrot, to keep his apples for himself, but this carrot, the biggest he's ever found, is his last. To protect his apples, he will leave them with the wolf who may be bad, but doesn't scare Red at all. In fact he's shocked to discover he loves bring manhandled by the wolf, and yet he still has to go. But what happens when the wolf refuses to be left behind? Can the apples retain their shine without Red's close attention? Will they end up as pie? Or will Red find his way back to Grimmy's house?

(Okay...totally think I blew it with the metaphors trying to avoid spoilers. Pie?? Griimy's?? Forgive me lol)

It's always the quiet ones isn't it? Beau was nothing like I expected but my guess was that was 100% intentional by the author because she knew what she was doing. I've seen people bitchin about how he was sooo diferent in his book but that's exactly the point! He had to hide himself for 5 years, he had to supress his feelings, what did you expect, for everything to just be ok with him?

Beau had a quiet sensibility that I feel got justice in this book. He was actually a very complex character and I, never once, as a reader, thought he didn't everything from his family of misfits. The sense of found family is honestly the best thing about this series because each book, it kept growing. A buch of people from diferent backgrounds and tax brackets got together and created something unique and precious.

Beau and Daeshim were a thunderstorm. I will miss this series and this bunch of misfits. Cambria did good.

I need more than 5 stars, Beau and Daeshim cause all the feels!!

This book surprised me several times.

Beau was not what I expected and because of that I really loved this story. Previous glimpses would make you think he is a strong and confident but he is really not. Daeshim is exactly like previous glimpses plus a lot possessive. They are each just what the other needs.

The second surprise was finding out what Beau does for a job. When you find out that he, not the other alphas, was really the one protecting the family. I loved it. When his secrets are revealed you find out just how strong the misfits family bond really is. They are UNBREAKABLE!

I was sad when the story ended. I love the misfits and want more, more, and more; but Cambria gives us a perfect closing to a awesome family.

Highly recommend this book and the rest.

💜🧡KU Read 💚❤️

Beau really surprised me. He has always been in the background of all the books in the series. Super quiet always working on his computer. Did not really interact much until him and Daeshim met and argued constantly. Daeshim really got under his skin and pushed all his buttons. He couldn't be the quiet mouse anymore.

Daeshim is Earth's brother. He was raised in the Black Rose Mafia. He did not have an easy life.

Daeshim & Beau have a passionate relationship. Beau suffers from anxiety and his wolf helps him with it.

I'm sad to see the end of this series. I love this group of characters.

Definitely recommend starting the series from the beginning.
