It's not Goldman's version. Goldman wrote the book; there is no other book or story.
Really? is the book he referenced repeatedly in the beginning of the story made up? I thought he decided to rewrite that book, thus titling it his "The Good Parts Version.
No, that's a metaphorical conceit. Goldman made up the book entire story. He's just using the conceit of the "Good Parts Version" in order to tell some funny jokes.
