nick I really appreciate your viewpoint! I always thought that Steinbeck purposely chose not to give Curly's wife a name to symbolize sexism and how women of his time had little freedom to forge his own identities. Assuming that he did this on purpose (which I don't think is confirmed), I appreciate this little touch, but one has to admit that there are at least some tone-deaf, (slightly) misogynistic, and ignorant elements to Steinbeck's writing, which is basically ubiquitous to almost all older writers' work (even women).
