[close] At the core of YWCA’s mission, our most essential job is to imagine, fight for, and create a more socially just world for the next generation of women -- and also prepare them for that future. In 2018, we’re introducing a new kind of book club. Each month, we’ll feature reads that tie directly to YWCA Dayton’s current advocacy priorities �� economic advancement, gender-based violence, affordable housing, and girls of color�� to raise awareness and spark dialogue. The best part: you can connect from wherever YOU are. This virtual book club lives on GoodReads. At the end of each month, we’ll host a discussion to unpack the book’s themes, talk about intersections, and identify ways everyone can empower women, eliminate racism, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

[close] The purpose of this group is to discuss and study works of Womanist scholarship, including those contained within the text, The Womanist Reader. Womanism is a term coined by Alice Walker, in an effort to address the concerns of women of color marginalized by the Feminist movement. Unlike feminism, womanism "elevates all sites and forms of oppression, whether they are based on social-address categories like gender, race, or class, to a level of equal concern and action.
