Every time someone gives me crap about how much I re-read books I want to beat them over the head with this book. Because despite the Stark mantra of 'Winter is Coming', every year when the warm weather comes around again I find myself craving this series. I truly love these characters and their stories. Every time someone gives me crap about how much I re-read books I want to beat them over the head with this book. Because despite the Stark mantra of 'Winter is Coming', every year when the warm weather comes around again I find myself craving this series. I truly love these characters and their stories. They don't feel like characters in a book to me, they feel so real. When I'm reading this book, their joys become my joys. Their sorrows my sorrows. Their triumphs my triumphs. And every time I read it I gain new insight into the characters. For example, I have never really liked Catelyn Stark until this time around. I don't admire Eddard as much as I used to because of the way he let honor destroy his family. Even though the characters and storyline are all so familiar, it truly feels like I am experiencing it all for the first time.

This is without a doubt, one of the best books I have ever read.

I got the first four books in this series for my Birthday last year. I didn't expect to fall in love with it so hard, and as soon as I finished reading those books I went out and bought them all in hardcover. At $35 a book, this was not an inexpensive venture. *laughs* I did it however, because I knew that I would be reading this series over and over again. And now here we are, almost a year later, and I'm starting to re-read the series again.

The first time around, I read this book slowly-devouring it page by page. There are so many characters to remember! So many families and lineages and allegiances! I love referring to the appendix at the end of the book to refresh my knowledge of the different families of the Seven kingdoms. I love gazing at the maps in the beginning of the book to see where all the main cities and holdfasts are. But most of all, I really truly love these characters. No one is clear black or white, rather they are all varying shades of gray. I am beginning to think that George R.R. Martin is a genius, for the complexities and vast epicness of this series is astounding. This first book is almost 800 pages, and the remaining books in the series boast equally if not longer page numbers, so believe me...you get really attatched to these chracters!

I'm enjoyed reading this book even more the second time around; it made the experiance all the more richer! I would reccomend this series to anyone who loves epic fantasies!

Crazyness, utter crazyness.

I didn't know what to expect from this series (I wasn't even planning on reading it) but my sister was adamant that I would like it...and I did, but it worries me that my sister's one advice before reading this series was, "don't fall in love with the characters because nobody lasts." So you can see how I was hesitant to give it a greater rating.

I had my favorite characters..to read...Daenerys was top since it was so interesting to read of her and Drogo...also I LOVED ...more
