The more I think about it the more I don't like this series. But at the point where I was reading this book, I still had hope. (it ends in a cliffhanger). Tension attempts to be created by the characters constantly trying to get somewhere and talking to themselves or each other about the minutiae of every thing they do, when they should be able to figure out what the reader probably figures out pretty fast. The conversations, therefore, are mostly people talking over each other or stopping in th

Before I read this book I was under the impression that it was about time travel, so it was a little surprising to find that it's really more historical fiction, told from the points of view of time-travelers who have gone back in time to observe the past. Once I got used to that I found it pretty interesting. Not a quick mover -- lots and lots of details about WWII England, and the characters seem a little precious for allegedly being from 2060 (even their speech and conversations in 2060 sound

This was a little disappointing because, as I discovered when I got to the end, it's actually half of a book. Not the first book of a series, but just half a book, when the second half being published later this year. It just cuts off, so it's difficult to review or consider as a stand-alone story.

Delightful beginning and I'm quite pleased I picked up All Clear before finishing so I can start right away. Far more character driven than plot which is a great idea but full of holes that I'm hoping All Clear will clear up. Still, a fantastic read.

Connie Willis never disappoints! I am always impressed by how she manages to pack so much historical fact and detail into her novels without bogging them down. I really felt like I was experiencing the Blitz! Blackout's narrators don't quite come through as distinct personalities, but Willis certainly knows how to create an entertaining and hilarious cast of minor characters. Wish she'd written one book instead of two but am looking forward to the sequel!
