3.5 stars. I enjoyed this, the audiobook version was really well done. There's something about the typical coming-of-age teenagers books that just don't especially do much for me though. I think this is the type of book that I would have really loved in high school, but am not super into in my 20s (I had the same problem with Perks of Being a Wallflower, I just read it too late for it to really be magic for me). I want to climb up on the roof and yell at people about how amazing this is. I started the audiobook (Lin-Manuel Miranda reads), and by the fourth disc was too impatient and finished the book in a couple hours. An absolute joy.

Is there anything less sexy than parents? Specifically, your parents when you're a teenager? The parental involvement in this friendship/romance between two teen boys felt off to me. I felt like the relationship between Aristotle and Dante would have played out much more in private - I don't know, it just sort of made it less special to me to have all four parents hovering around and giving things their blessing and imparting lessons.

The whole time I was reading this, I kept comparing it to Grasshopper Jungle--b/c I'm reading it for the same book club, and because it has some similar concepts on friendship/sexual confusion/teenage love. But this was SO MUCH BETTER. The narrative voice is super engaging, everything moves at a good pace, both boys are GREAT, their parents are great, there is a great dog, everything about this is great. what an interesting title!, I said to myself at the library. I think I shall read you, interestingly-titled book! and then, oh, how I cried. amazing. AMAZING. must read for everyone who'd ever been a teenager.

Full, lovely characters. Lin Manuel Miranda is a perfect narrator for the audiobook.
