Hmm...I can't say that I remember every detail from this book as if I had just finished it today or yesterday, but I have to say that the last time I read this book, I WAS REALLY HAPPY.
I think it was around the seventh grade...
ANYWAY, I loved this series! AMAZING. The way Mr. Rick Riordian detailed his writing and added voice was AWESOME. I was awestruck!
Dude. If you're looking for a book on greek myths with voice, detail, and the feeling that you're actually in the book, YOU'RE GOING TO WANT TO ...more

First book in the Percy Jackson series. While the book is clearly targeted for the male teen its a well put together read for folks of all ages. It seems a little less juvenile than the Harry Potter books and with a more masculine slant. Couldn't tell if it was the writing or the fact that my copy was used, but there were definite whiffs of Clearasil and Cruex.

My suburban Texas school district recently took English I Pre-AP out of middle school and placed it in high school only. Now, 8th grade honors students simply follow the regular curriculum for 8th grade and I am told to just modify and make it harder. I am adjusting to this new change, but I miss three very important pieces of literature that I would normally be teaching: Romeo & Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Odyssey. I really enjoyed teaching The Odyssey because it allowed me to do som

I read this book as a part of my high school mythology class along with "The Illiad". Guess which book I finished. Now I'm not trashing "The Illiad". I just think that book meets a very specific demographic and I'm not part of it.
Now, "Percy Jackson" is actually not that different. Not just because it involves Greek mythology, but also because if you don't meet the correct demographic you won't enjoy it (as with most things). "The Lighting Thief" was a very easy book for me to finish. Mainly ...more

October 2019 update:
I wanted to reread the Percy Jackson series after reading Stephen Fry's Mythos, who got me in a mood for mythology. This book was one big throwback to when I first read it (about eight years ago). And although (as a 26-year-old lady*)
I am now far removed from Riordan's key demographic, man, did I enjoy rereading this puppy. The stories and characters scream middle school, but that did not stop me from enjoying this book.

oh. my. gosh. this book was amazing from the start. My friend told me to read this because the movie was coming out, but I was reluctant to buy it because I thought it was a "little kid's book". Was I wrong! It was unique and creative and even got me interested in Greek mythology. I love how everything Percy experiences has to do with Greek myths. Though the movie is very different from the book, both are great. I would recommend this to anyone!
