You are going to die.
That's the first thing Marcus Zusak, with Death as his narrator, tells us in this beautiful, devastating story. Inevitably, any story of Nazi Germany is going to be dark. This story is no exception, but Zusak reminds us that there were also kids joking, swearing, and playing soccer; and good, average, everyday people who decided to do the right thing even as evil consumed their world.

One of the most beautifully poetic books and one of the most heartbreakingly wonderful stories I've ever read---EVER!! This book is definitely a new classic.

This is a fantastic read with lots of historical information regarding WWII thrown in with a growing up story. Made me think about how a seemingly insignificant act to myself can mean the world to someone else. How do the people we love influence us and the decisions we make as we grow up? Thought provoking.

I've had this on my to-read list for a long time and the description was intriguing, but when I finally got it from the library, I just couldn't get into it at ALL. Strange writing style that just didn't appeal to me.

Excellent, excellent novel. Beautifully written and such an interesting perspective (told from Death's point of view), it was heartbreaking and wonderful.
