Remember, it's only a game...
Like I said before, reading this was just so effortless, like tearing off a piece of cotton candy and just letting it melt in your mouth with little to no effort.
I absolutely loved this book. Just as time passed differently, more quickly, for our characters during Caraval. Time passed differently for me while I read Caraval. Occasionally, I would stop reading, glance at the clock and think, "Wait, how has more than an hour already pass?" It is like a pleasant d ...more

Oh my god!!!
It's over and I'm going to rant and rave in my head for the duration until book two arrives because holy hell that was amazeballs. Unique, a riveting page turner I swear once you settle into the story it's game set match like you're not going to set it down. If I didn't work so darn much now I probably would've cleared this in a sitting. It's got so much mystery to unravel and the characters are definitely so crazy towns, the madness starts to literally make the read think their goin ...more

My thoughts are so conflicted. I feel like Scarlett. REALLY FUCKING CONFUSED, with shades of red, for anger, and yellow for that uneasy feeling I have in my stomach. My rating bounced around ALOT for this book. First I loved it and then I started to get annoyed with everyone. I could have slapped them all!! Then there was the ending... Julian..... Donnatella..... Legend..... I HAVE TO MEET LEGEND!
In conclusion read this FUSTRATING but MAGICAL book. I don't think you will be disappointed! ...more

I don't even know what to say about this book. It was a magical, mind-bending adventure and I loved every confusing, twisted moment of it. If you haven't read this book, read this book. I feel like mush now after taking in all the plot twists, and that cliffhanger too!!! Oh boy, this will definitely be a reread for me.

TW for physical abuse, abuse by a family member, and sexism.
I enjoyed the mystery and twists of this novel; it kept me guessing the whole time and I didn't know what was coming next. But the writing style seemed to switch between smooth and jarring, and I didn't enjoy the surreal nature of some scenes, where it was tricky to work out what was real and what wasn't. ...more

4.7/5
"Caraval" lived up to my expectations and even exceeded those! It was such a pleasure to be a part of this entirely unlike and a little bit crazy world.
Scarlet is an amazing character! I loved the way we learned Caraval's history and received clues together with her. There weren't moments when I wanted to shout at her: " Are you blind? Can't you see this?". On the contrary, each page was filled with magnificent metaphors and magic. I felt like I was the one who tasted lemonades that chang ...more

There was and still is a huge amount of hype about Caraval and I'll admit I was swept away with the rest of the crowd. What's not to love about a world where you can lose yourself... the only problem with Caraval is that loosing yourself can be very deadly
“Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or perf

Received an ARC copy from Flat Iron books through Shelf Awareness for an honest review.
Wow what an exhilarating ride through the world of Caraval and who wouldn't want to meet Scarlett and Julian. The story reminded me of a cross between Alice and Wonderland and the Legend of the Nightingale. Enchanting and scary at the same time.
This is one of my favorite reads for 2016 and I will be adding a hard copy to my collection. This is bound to be a classic. Cannot wait to see what the author does ne ...more

This book is amazing! If you are someone who loves to read about magic but also loves some mystery elements this is the book you should read. We follow the story of two sisters Tella and Scarlet who have always wanted to go to Caraval because of all the magic they heard their grandmother tell them about. When they finally get to Caraval Tella is Kidnaped and made a key part of the game of Caraval. I also found it extremely fitting that our first real glimpse of the magic of Caraval occurs in a c
