What Members Thought
Each year around this time I try to make time for a ghost story or two, so I chose to listen to this book that I had previously read back in the 1970s and liked well enough. It was 3 stars then, and 3 stars now for me. I remembered being spooked by it then, but now... not so much. 2018: Audio. Perfection.
More talk about being scary than actually being scary. There was a couple scary moments but the rest was so-so. And it ended abruptly. It felt like it took forever to get going and then boom, it was over.
I was expecting a whole lot more from this book. I did have to keep reminding myself that this was written in '49, and probably for the time was scary and creepy but I'm so desensitized that this did nothing for me overall.
I liked the description of the house, and admit I did get chills when they described the cold spot for the first time. I kept hoping for so much more: better character development, less fragmentation of the storyline and what was happening, and a clue as to what the deal was ...more
