I started reading The Malazan Book of the Fallen just over four years ago, so finishing the final book of this ten volume epic is kind of a big deal for me. It's been a big part of my life in fact and it's odd to be at the end even though I know there are plenty more to go.
So you can imagine this series has had quite the impact on my life. When I go through my books to see which ones to sell or give away I call it "culling the nobility." It's pervasive. :) (wait, are emoticons allowed in Malazan ...more

3/5 IT'S HERE, OMG, see ya all in a week!
Finito! Well, he did it. Steven Erikson gave us an utterly satisfactory conclusion to this massive series that has had me obsessed for years now. Bravo. I can't really say anything else right now, I am still digesting everything. It turned the past nihilism on it's ass! My only complaint right now is ...more

After 11 years reading this series, I am done. And words cannot explain the exhilaration. Nothing in my life has ever touched the epic majesty of Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen. And after rereading the last 4 books just to recap the myriad side stories I have finally finished this most noble and far reaching of series. I am in awe. 10 out of 5 stars is too few. This series and this book in particular illustrates humanity and it's foibles more clearly than any philosophy class. And w

I've spent the past 2 months in the Malazan world, and have just finished this last book tonight. The first time I read the series (incomplete as it was in 2008), I immediately went back and read them again. They were that good. This 3rd time they were even better, and to top it off, I had the concluding volumes to savor.
I could go on and on about the laughter (Bugg and Tehol) and the tears (Chain of Dogs), but what really matters is the experience. It is a bit like having another life - just a ...more

The Crippled God was everything you wanted in an series ending book and then some!! There where so many "OMG" moments, so many "Hell Yeah" moments and so many "tear jerker" moments in this final book. Most of the little strings SE wove thru out this series were tied up in TCG. Steven Erikson is a master at EPIC fantasy and no one can compare!

6 out of 5 stars! The final book to what I consider the greatest fantasy series EVER written. This series is not for the faint of heart and if you go to read it, than give it at least 3 books before you decide whether or not to finish. I will not even begin to try and summarize this book. Simply put Erikson ties up the loose ends for the most part. NOT everything will be answered and nor should it since that is life. While this is the final book of the Malazan series I do hope Erikson writes "Ot

So the first half of this book consists mostly of a lot of painful trudging from place to place while thinking in italics.
When it does, finally, start moving it delivers epic battles, surprise allies, revelations and deadly conclusions pretty much non-stop.
It delivers enough closure on the main threads (The Bridgeburners, The Bonehnters and the Paran's) to feel like a satisfying conclusion to the main tale.

The culmination of a ten book series is a tough one to pull off, but Erikson manages it with flying colors. He pulls together threads reaching as far back as book one and builds to a thundering conclusion - fantastic, fantastic, fantastic.
A note on the series overall: as mentioned this was a ten book series (with several novellas thrown in and three books by another writer set in the same world and crossing over with this set). Erikson walked a fine line between keeping the books coming (an aver ...more

The final chapter to the 10 book saga of the book of the fallen is a masterpiece. Somehow Erikson manages to tie most of the threads he spun over the course of the last decade neatly and with a few twists and turns took this epic tale to a very satisfying conclusion.I give the book 5 stars not only because i found the writing excellent or the story itself but also because he managed to create a fantasy series that broke the mold and remade it better.

This was one good read... 10 books long.
Too much to digest. I have to re-read (someday, somewhere later this year or the next) the entire series in order to write a proper review.
In short: I Loved it. Capital L. Erikson is one special writer. Everything else pales besides these 10 books. This last book... ah the feelz. Brutal. Beautiful. Katharsis.

Holy crap...I've done it. I set out to read this series, and a year later I've done it.
