Another solid novel by ICE. The story unfolds in a new part of the world created by SE and ICE. It is truly nice to have two writers that can write in the same universe and have the same feel when reading and not worrying about who is writing. ICE does a great job with the grittiness of the locations and the characters. True to Malazan standards there are multiple story lines going on with characters we come to enjoy and want to know more about. Looking forward to the next ICE novel!

Esselmont continues to delve into the Malazan world with good, solid stories, this time detailing the Stormriders, the Stormguard, and the various peoples of the continent of Korel.
Similar to the prior novel (Crimson Guard), this book really didn’t get going until the first 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through, but then really picks up. What a fantastic installment to the Malazan world!! ICE is indeed coming into his own, much like Erikson did in Memories, and I can't wait to get my hands on "Orb, Sceptre, Throne"! This is a must read!

Same great setting and epic story arcs but, for me, Esslemont just doesn't create characters that you care that much about.
