My video review:

I truly wanted to be swept away by Caraval. I really did.
My overall opinion is that this book had a fantastic idea yet failed to match it with its writing. While I still enjoyed reading it, I also came across many annoyances and an abundance of bad YA tropes.

The metaphors, color description, and comparisons felt like they were trying way too hard to be abstract and poetic, when actually they just don't make any sense. It wasn't like the cute imaginat

Interesting premise. Characters and dialogue were kind of annoying. Uncertain if I will continue.

I was engrossed from the beginning of Caraval to the end, and what a pleasantly surprising ride it was. I loved the world Garber created: all mysticism, wonder, with a little of darkness blended in. While the magic system governing Caraval is never truly explained, for me, it didn't detract from enjoying the experience.

I really loved this book.
It's a romance, which is one of my fav genres.
It's also a huge surprise at the end -- enough twists & turns to keep you guessing what's going to happen next!
Every time I thought I knew what was going on, I was (happily) wrong!
Really, no one wants to figure out the end of a book halfway through it.

This is a difficult book to review. I... let's start from the beginning.
What made me want to read this book was the hype (and the covers, because both U.K. ans US editions are stunning)! So many people were loving it and even comparing it to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Understandable. If you have been following me for a while, you might now I really liked TNC but it wasn't my favorite. I did love the magic and the whimsical feeling I had reading the book and i always wished the Circus

The story had an Alice in Wonderland-feel, especially when you meet the weird guy in the hat shop. The plot was well thought and not predictable. The sisters irritated me a little bit. But overall it's a well written book. ...more
