A Gathering of Shadows is the 2nd book in the Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab.
I loved the 1st book in the series, A Darker Shade of Magic.
But this story felt like it was a setup for the final book in the series.
There were times I couldn't wait to read it, but there were times it dragged.
Still, I love V.E. Schwab's stories, and I am really looking forward to the final book in the series!

I was considering 3.5 but I guess in the end it still feels more of a 3 star read to me. It had potential but something was lost on the way...
This was more a Lila book, but somehow all her POVs were a bit lacking...she actually started to sound a bit annoying halfway through. The main hook for me was Alucard and even he left me wondering what is up with all the drama.

I have no words... No words for that ending. OH. MY. GOD. This is why I am thankful I waited until the final book was just about to come out before reading this, because that cliff hanger was horrible. I'm dying inside. This book, far more than the first one, made me care about the characters in it to the point that whenever anything happened to them, I felt their pain, and I wanted to root for it all to be better. For that, I applaud this book. The plot was much slower paced than other fantasy

Loved this book!! Took my time with it. Second book syndrome hit this a little as I felt it was really setting up the story to come for book 3. Nonetheless, taking time to get to know Lilah was a joy and very fun!!
I think the “reveal was somewhat obvious to most but very satisfying. Although the Essen Tach took a bit of a backseat, I do think the story propelled our characters forward well!!

That ending .....
That was a bloody good ending.
I really don't think I can wait a year for the third book, and that's gonna annoy me to no end. ...more
