I decided to reread this since my youngest is slowly being indoctrinated into the world of Tolkien, and it was such a delight and joy to read again and relive childhood memories of my mom reading to me of Bilbo’s adventures. I could hear her voice in my head during the Riddles in the Dark chapter, impersonating Gollum—the best interpretation I know. Thoroughly enjoyed it every minute. It’s no wonder The Hobbit is such a fantasy staple.

I have no idea why I waited until my son was old enough for this book to read it myself. I guess because we were meant to read it together. He hasn't yet embraced the other Tolkein books, but this one he loved. Of course I had to read the rest after beginning the journey here.

So really, only one reason. :-)

I am reading this to my son and I had forgotten how wonderful this story is! And so interesting: there is no way an editor would let Tolkien get away with such long sentences these days.
