What Members Thought

4 stars is a bit generous. 3.5 stars
It was an enjoyable read, but nothing remarkable. I got no personality of the author behind this novel. It felt very generic, stole many references from older star wars books and the movies. And it didn't always fit, being this was the OLD REPUBLIC. I want to feel like it was taken place in another time. Failed. I liked the characters and the development we see them go through. Revan felt shallow at first but suddenly had hidden depth in the last third of the ...more

As I've said before, I consider Star Wars novels the equivalent to Harlequin Romance novels for dorks. Therefore when I crack one open, my expectations are decidedly and justifiably low. As long as I get a little lightsabre action, some Jedi/Sith magic, a dollop of blasterfire here n' there, I'm sated.
With that in mind, Revan hit all the right marks. Karpyshyn is a fine writer and he especially seems to excel when mulling over the nature of the dark side and the Sith.

A solid Star Wars novel that delves into an era that has largely been unexplored. I know some readers are left unsatisfied by the ending, but I was just sad. Hopefully there'll be some sort of continuation to this novel, if there isn't one already.
Drew Karpyshyn's writing was simple, but not childish. While I wasn't blown away by his prose, it was readable and did not distract from the story. James Lucano's, on the other hand, gave me pause. From the little that I read of the preview from Darth ...more

Fans of the Knights of the Old Republic video games must read this book. It wonderfully wraps up the storylines of both games and interweaves them with the setting of the new Old Republic MMO game. And if you have forgotten a lot of the details of the KOTOR video games, there is plenty in this book that will jog your memory. Great book.
