4.5 stars: I don't always have high expectations of books I find on kindle sale for $1.99, but this far exceeded anything I could have imagined. The characters were complicated and their relationships were messy, but the writing was strong and pacing was excellent. Very interested to read other books by this author.

I received a e-galley of this title courtesy of Atria Books and Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review.The first thing that caught my attention about this book was its cover which features an egg with a hairline crack nestled against some floral wallpaper. So unbelievably sad.
I'm in the minority here with my rating. I just found this to be a book full of unlikeable characters. I like flawed characters in stories but not completely unlikeable. I didn't care at all what happened to these people and couldn't bring myself to muster any sympathy. Ok I did have sympathy for when they were children but once grown it was time to stop blaming everything on their childhood and take responsibility. With more likeable characters I think I would have enjoyed the story much more.
