I've expected more... Great reading but not better than Hunger Games in dystopian novels.

EDIT : I've read Delirium shortly after this book, and Delirium is definitely better in this kind of romantic dystopian novel! Matched has not developped characters and story unfortunately. But fortunately, the romance is cute.

Must I say it? This one will be up there with "Hunger Games" trilogy. But then there will be too high of expectations so I shouldn't say that.

Loved it.

Ally Condie's Matched is one of those rare books that you hear a million awesome things about and then finally read--and it's even better than everyone said.

Cassia is a member of the Society. The Society decides what its members will eat, watch, wear, learn, and do with every minute of their day--or, rather, their lives. It's total control, but everything is also seen as perfect.

When we meet Cassia she is just turning seventeen and it is thus time for her Matching Ceremony--the Society's form

I cannot think about what to say about this book. It was so good. It's set in a future society where there are Officials that decide everything for you. It starts out with Cassia attending her matching ceremony. When she is matched with her best friend Xander, she knows he is her perfect match. But, when another boys face flashes on the screen before going blank, Cassia is forced to make a choice. Do what the Society wants her to do, or follow her own heart.

For starters, the writing is amazing.

The Society looks pretty good, to an outsider. Sickness and disease have been eliminated. Everyone has a job, everyone has a place to live, and almost everyone gets "matched" according the statistical probability that two people will get along. We meet Cassia on the night of her matching ceremony, when 17 year olds are told who their match is. Cassia is happy when it turns out to be her best friend, Xander, but his microchip reveals another boy, Ky. Since The Society doesn't make mistakes, this ...more

Matched by Allie Condie. Science Fiction, young adult. After a great debate of rater I wanted to give the book 3 stars, 4 star, or 5 star. 4.5/5 star won the round. I got to say I loved the book. the story was quick and easy to slip into. The characters were all well written and they all almost seemed as brainless to the higher authority. Of course we had to have Ky the 'trouble maker' in this story. He gave the book that extra flare that it needed.

I tried. I really tried with this book, but I was almost halfway through and didn't care at all about the characters or the story. I liked the idea of the story and the world created, but I just had to call it quits. ...more
