Oh my. This classic of American Literature is gut wrenching in a rather beautiful way. I first read it in High School, and I found that the story was readily accessible, along with its ironies and symbolism. I don't think I liked it, but I certainly appreciated it, and a number of key scenes in the story stayed with me vividly into adulthood.

I was glad to re-read it as an adult. It is always an enlightening experience to do that, and to see what resonated with the child-me compared to the adult-
