I'm by no means a writer, but here goes. The Child Thief is one of those books that makes it easy for your mind to paint pictures, and not in a boring way. It's fantastical and pretty, even (or in my opinion, especially) when it comes to the darknesses that exist to counter the light (the darkness essential to Avalon: the barghest, the witch and her daughters, not the Flesh-Eaters, which become twisted distinctly because they don't belong). Very dark and modern take on Peter Pan. Bloody, violent, hard to read at times, but wholly engrossing. It got a bit cartoonish toward the end - one entire section seemed almost hokey right at the end, which sort of killed my enthusiasm for the entire story.
