So here's my take (even though I'm only about 3/4 of the way through):
I really like this book a lot. The negative reviews made me sad, but I can understand that this is a very specific type of writing and if you don't like a slow pace, you probably won't really want to trudge through this book.
Liking Harry Potter does NOT mean you will like this book!
WARNING: not for children! While teens might want to read this, I doubt many would be very interested in the storyline of local politics in a small ...more

This isn’t just about my love of Harry Potter. JK Rowling can really write. And this story of a community battle between poor and rich and a council seat is perfection. You hate pretty much all the characters, but you can’t put it down until you find out how it all ends.
I don't get why everyone was so hard on this book. I thought it was great. A little disappointed in the ending, but hell, I could say that about Jane Austen. I mean, it's no Harry Potter, but let's be reasonable.
