What Members Thought

I really thought I was going to love this book and I think the high expectations did it in. It was well-crafted, well-written, ok story, but it just didn't do anything for me. I ended up hating all the characters, and I mean all of them, and didn't give a fuck what ended up happening to them. Maybe that's "the point" but I really don't like when novels make me feel that way. I was also annoyed that only the "movie cover" version was available at the Santa Monica Barnes & Noble.

This was a very good, very heartbreaking book. Frank and April seem to be a good fit for each other. They have a lot of big dreams. After an accidental pregnancy, they get married and seem to resign themselves to life in suburbia. Their marriage fades and they half-heartedly try to salvage the dreams they once had. Definitely worth picking up!

I feel like they don't write these quiet novels anymore. Felt like a long short story: simple, impactful. Reminded me, in its quiet, of Stegner's Crossing to Safety.
