Even better than The Kite Runner. The author's ability to write from the perspective of not one, but two, women is phenomenal. He's definitely in touch with his feminine side! It should be a must-read for American high schoolers. ...more

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.� This was another fantastic book by Hosseini. To me, he is one of the best story tellers ever. This book was the story of Mariam and Laila. The first part is about Mariam who lives with her mom in the hills looking over Herat, Afghanistan. Like The Kite Runner before it, A Thousand Splendid Suns centers around the incredible lives of modern Afghani men and women. The subject matter is, as expected, extremely bleak, yet Hosseini's cleaver hand paints vivid and amiable characters that make the books hard to put down.

A Thousand Splendid Suns chronicles the lives of two Afghani women struggling to survive through all the tumultuous events of the past few decades.

It's both fascinating and revolting to watch the country of Afghanistan

I wouldn't be the first to say I enjoyed Kite Runner more. This book, while still good in its own right, felt a little less enjoyable. It was almost a bit by the numbers. That said there were some memorable and deeply haunting moments. ...more
