Wow and wow and wow. This one bowled me over even though I was less than enthused when I picked it up and actually examined it. I had a sort of a tic and then a question 'do I really want to spend time reading this?' -- and promptly did an about face -- 'why not, since I've got a copy available?' Doig provides an excellent sense of place. Along with that, there is a true feeling of family dynamics when the group exists in relative isolation. In our current, populated environments, we don't get much of a chance to experience this. I loved the interplay between the three sons in the family here. And, in general, I sincerely enjoyed spending time in the world he created. But, I'm still a bit iffy on the believability of the ending.
