I picked this one up for a challenge. I didn't think that I would like it but it was better than I thought it would be. I enjoyed the retelling of Bluebeard, but it was very different. Sophie is a headstrong girl who is often spoiled, but also somewhat responsible. Bernard de Cressac is an interesting character. He seems to have a split peronality. I really liked it! A re-telling of the fable Bluebeard and it was creepy and spooky with a bad guy that was beastly, vile and so cruel! Sophie was an awesome character, she was strong and endearing. I loved all the supporting characters too, all distinct and individual.
The setting was beautiful and majestic and at the same time at a rough time in our history. I could picture the abbey perfectly in my head with all the ivy and moss covered stone, the beautiful gardens and dresses.
