Ok - I shouldn't say I "read" it because I only got about 1/3 of the way in. Problem is that I was way too easily distracted and couldn't finish it. It just didn't hold my attention. There was more techno talk than plot. I went to the NCTE conference and was enticed by all the pretty little books that made their way into my bag... for FREE! Now I am reading something else. Wow! I learned so much about the world of technology! Doctorow makes computer lingo understandable to a non-technology person like me. Several themes, including security vs privacy and the right of free speech, emerge as the protagonist takes action against impositions he finds unbearable. A great companion to other dystopian novels like 1984.
