They rushed up his legs and burrowed into his skin. His flesh bubbled and stretched. He convulsed, his spine stiffened, and when he let off an unholy howl, the creatures flooded his mouth, ramming their way down his throat. Moments later, they reappeared, exploding from his skull, chest, and stomach in an obscene spray of brains, blood, and intestines. His knees unhinged, dropping his soiled, lifeless body to the ground, where it continued being devoured from the inside out.
Like a Venus Flytrap, it snapped shut, completely engulfing man and machine. The slick, pulsating tissue squeezed tight, vacuum-sealing itself over its prey. The man opened his mouth as if to scream but only inhaled the suffocating membrane. Then bone and metal crunched, and the semi-transparent outline of the struggling rider popped, leaving a large, crimson blossom beneath the tissue.
A woman was impaled through each shoulder by two wasps. Like a strip of Velcro, she was ripped in half in a geyser of blood. The pieces flew off in separate directions, leaving only a steaming pile of entrails on the ground where she once stood.
