Villa’s killing of Reza thus had a political purpose. While the motives for Reza’s killing are still subject to debate, the killing itself has been well documented and has become an integral part of the Villa legend. All accounts seem to agree on how Villa rode into Ciudad Chihuahua at a leisurely pace to find Reza. Some include the detail that he first bought a big ice-cream cone and was munching it when Reza stepped out of a bar he frequented, Las Quince Leguas. Villa shot him and then, at an equally leisurely pace, rode out of town, with no one daring to pursue him.
