This book gave rise to one of the most excruciating editorial experiences of my career. It was my first attempt at writing a combined love story and thriller, and when my editor first received the draft, let’s just say that she was less than enthusiastic. She sent me back to the drawing board on any number of matters, so much so that I actually had to set the book aside and quickly write another book (NIGHTS IN RODANTHE) in order to be able to meet my publication deadline. I later returned to THE GUARDIAN, and after many rewrites was finally able to satisfy both my editor and my readers!
