I still couldn't decide on the issue of "contemporary" books. I added all the nominations where the story's setting and/or the author is Russia/Russian, regardless the time of the story. I simply considered the first publication date.

Personally, I'd quite like to read Death and the Penguin but it is Ukrainian (although written in Russian, I believe) and I would note that it is not widely known or published in Russia so may have been targeted specifically at the Western market?

I wouldn't mind re-reading the Yellow Arrow or the Winter Queen (Russian title Azazel) as well.

I guess I'd also go for Death and the Penguin.

I'm all for Death and the Penguin. Been wanting to read that for years now and I think it'd complement Dead Souls quite nicely (both writers being Ukrainian-born and both novels being darkly humorous satires). Although I also wouldn't mind re-reading The Yellow Arrow.
