I have very complicated feelings about this book. I actually almost DNFed it but pushed through because it's for a book club read, and I am glad I did finish it.
I did (in the end) enjoy Sadie and Julius and their dynamic and why they are they way they are ended up making a lot of sense once we got to know them more, but there was just a lot MISSING from this story and the characters unfortunately. Almost every relationship felt very surface level (not to mention that even for YA a lot of the dialogue was EXTREMELY unrealistic, strange, and cringe), and the entire conceit of the story (Sadie's emails getting sent out) did not make any sense AT ALL. It was obvious who did it but when you find out WHY it literally doesn't make any sense whatsoever at all and that kind of ruined the whole premise of the story. It felt like the author knew she wanted to write about the emails getting out but didnt know how to make it happen, because what she settled on literally doesn't work and it is also unclear how EVERY email ended up getting sent to EVERYONE. I have said it before and I'll say it again: this book didn't make any sense because of that huge plot hole.
Also, a minor (but very infuriating) note is that the story is set in AUSTRALIA (here in Melbourne, specifically), and the main character literally comments on it when people do have an American accent because it's abnormal to them and obviously noteworthy, yet the audiobook narrator herself had an American accent! That doesn't even make sense?? That took me out of the story a lot, too. Like 'wow he has a slightly american accent" BABE HAVE YOUR HEARD YOURSELF? So does every single other character apparently!! So weird and easily avoidable just hire an Australian....more

I feel absolutely nothing for the story or characters (yet?) and I think that is what is making it hard to push through, because i don't care what happens to any of them.
I do plan to come back to it at some point but I am taking it off the roster for now....more
