I devoured this book in two days. Although I take slight issue with the ending, overall, the book was satisfying and complex. Collins developed Katniss into a multifaceted character who had obvious flaws and weaknesses, particularly in her treatment of Peeta. I appreciated the fact that she didn't gloss her over, which I am sure would be easy to do with a YA character. I was shocked by the ferocity of some of the scenes of the book, but did not find them overly done or unnecessary. Each was required in order to advance the plot of the book. Overall, a very enjoyable series....more

I'll admit to seeing The middle book of the series is clearly devoted to setting up the final book, Mockingjay. However, that doesn't make it boring. I'll admit to seeing the movie before reading any of the books (or seeing the first movie) so I knew what the result would be. However, the access to Katniss' thoughts that the book enables the reader to experience adds far more depth to the story than the movie does and develops her into a more complex and robust character. I bought the third book the second I put this one down. ...more

Since it's a YA book, I wasn't sure whether or not the story would be engaging enough for an adult reader, however, I was very wrong. The concept of the book is very interesting and the fast-paced, easy-read nature of the book made it possible to finish in no more than a day or two. The second I put it down, I couldn't wait to pick up the next in the series. ...more

I I have to disclaim this review by admitting that Jenny Lawson is one of my favorite bloggers and that I eagerly anticipated the release of my book. I even sent my husband to the book signing on his own when I had to work late and had to miss it. Quite simply, I love her refreshing take on life and her brutal honesty about her limitations including her depression, eating disorder and anxiety. She is one of the few authors I truly wish I cold befriend. ...more

One of the things I also came away with was the fact that Julia Child didn't come into her own until later in life. It's a hopeful perspective. However, all in all, the book was a little trite ad wrapped in a pretty bow. ...more
