I'm enjoying reading middle-grade novels, I enjoy these more than young adult novels, and often more than fiction for adults. This was a lovely story about identity, family and found families. More it is a lovely mystery story set in France with lots of 'chocolate' references and eating. Made me crave chocolate while I read it....more

I have added a category for novels that have been distorted by publisher i.e. books that have been changed by publishers to suit themselves.
The original work did not include the use of drugs. Unfortunately, the publishers have been allowed to editorially and distort Enid Blyton's original work freely, which makes finding original copies of her work (unchanged, unedited) difficult.
I'm lucky enough to own most of the original series of F5, the Adventure series, the Secret series and some other original's in my personal collection. No thanks to the publishers.
I am not a fan of distorted publishing, I think it's insulting and offensive to the author/s and the original written works. There's no place in my library for these versions.
Saying that I don't mind listening in audible to some of these works, when I can.
Overall this wasn't awful, I wasn't able to find the audible record in English on 欧宝娱乐 so have used the PB to place review.

This is one of my favourites of the series. The move from England to Switzerland for Jack and Joey's family is the beginning of the new Swiss period of the Chalet School chronicles and also puts them closer to where they began (Austria). The period is early 1950's, so not so long after the war but still too soon for the school to think they can return to Tyrol, if ever. Switzerland is as close as they feel they can get to going home to Tyrol.
We get to reunite with characters we've met in earlier books on the continent. Evvy Lannis, her father, Frieda and family, Simone and her family, who live on the continent. The feeling is that more reunions may come in the future, the coming to the continent may have further meetings with old girls and characters.
The Swiss era of the series is a fun era and covers a long period as Jo and Jack's children grow into teenagers during this period and their own schooling will come into this era, as well as the Mary-Lou era. Mary-Lou will be an important girl during the coming years.
One of the sadder parts of this era, though is the loss of Robin, who is now leaving and going to Canada to join an order, and she goes out of much of the series after this. We only get to hear from her through letters/correspondence of the titular cast. For me this has always been a disappointment, Robin has always been one of my favourite children in the novels.
I highly recommend this novel to all lovers of the series and children/teen novels....more
I really enjoyed this story, especially the interesting scenes in the early chapters with Dick and Molly Bettany in India and on their leaving India. I really enjoyed this story, especially the interesting scenes in the early chapters with Dick and Molly Bettany in India and on their leaving India. I liked the inferences to the war and Dick's secret work for the government and his peers that he undertook, I enjoyed that the entire Bettany family and Madge became involved. Our young character Maeve proved herself to be an adventurous young thing, and feisty with it, while still remaining a mischievous young girl. She shows spirit and courage in all her endeavors. I have a real appreciation for Maeve now....more

Moving and movement from village toThis diary is about war, yes, but it is about people. The moving of people, either by circumstance, force or need. Moving and movement from village to village, town to town, from one city to the next, and so on, caused by inhuman acts and human crisis. As told through the eyes of a 12 year old child.
This is not your thrilling, exciting, page turning 5* book, this is a profound, emotional and life changing work that provides us with a documented, reality and accounting of our living times and events.
I say it is worthy of the rating, if only for its truth and present day reality, as this 鈥榳ar鈥 is still ongoing, without any sign of ending.
Yeva began her diary in February 2022 and today it鈥檚 July 2023, over a year ago, I hope that Yeva and her grandmother are still happy and settled in Ireland. Like Yeva, I can only send prayers to her, her family and the Ukrainian people, hoping that Ukraine and her people will prevail and those that have left her can one day return to their homeland....more
