While the story in this one isn't as strong as the others, it's still a great way to start a discussion about bravery, the need for rest and recharge, or to introduce Supergirl as a hero....more

While the comparison is ridiculous, of course, it's also fun and can be motivating to little kids who don't like to get dressed and brush their teeth and go to school. The Superman parts are drawn comic book style and inserted into the spread of the young boy getting ready for school. A nice read aloud for a routine theme (like daytime routines) or a superhero theme.

The broad range of men profiled is awesome Short little snapshots of 40 men who have all made the world a better place by actively choosing to do so. The broad range of men profiled is awesome (BIPOC, white, LGBTQ, straight, celebrities, businessmen, politicians, athletes, musicians, US & international, etc). I also loved that the book doesn't try to be more than it is. It doesn't try to give you all possible background information on each man, it gives just enough to peak your interest and make you want to learn more. There's also 11 pages of source notes at the end with resources that include both print and online references where readers can learn more about the men featured.
This book isn't going to make you an expert on these Ground Breaking Guys, but it will give you an idea of who they are and what they have done that's worthy of emulation. It doesn't deify them, just points out how they have tried to make a difference. I love the focus on positivity and how we can all make a difference in our own little corners of the world....more

When he wakes up in the morning the book is nowhere to be found and he's devastated. He imagines the worst (e.g. a bear ate it, a stegosaurus stomped on it, etc.)! The first few pages are wordless so just make some "hmm" and "ahh" reading noises if you're reading this one aloud to a group. Since the reader can see the book throughout the entire thing, this makes a fun read aloud as the kid try and tell the monster where to find his book. Great illustrations and lots of fun!...more

EssentiallyI didn't know this was the 4th of a 4 book series when I picked this up, but it doesn't seem to matter that I hadn't read the first three. Essentially, Louie is sad because his friends are making fun of him because his new father owns a junkyard. Stepdad tells him that anything can be treasure if you look at it the right way and use your imagination. So, Louie, Mom, & Stepdad build a rocket ship that's powered by Louie's imagination. Louie and his friend Susie take off for an adventure and are eventually joined by Ziggy and Ruthie who learn to use their imaginations, too.
