I'm not a fan of comics, but this one was definitely worth reading. I love how she gives an honest view of things, including her parents' weird political ideas (communists who have a maid and think that marriages should stay within one's social class). It is a sad story, the story of a country going from bad to worse. It is also a warning for what happens when religion gets into politics in a modern country. Nobody is as safe as they think they are....more

I don't think I will ever be able to understand her need to keep a relationship with such a family, especially with her abusive brother. Maybe I still have no feelings, but there is no way in hell that I would have gone back after leaving the first time to go to college. I do, however, understand her feelings of being between two worlds, not quite set in either and how that can lead to watching stupid TV shows for years. ...more

The charThe story is readable and there are a few good lines in it, but it's mainly a boring family story describing the life of several generations. The characters are not interesting, It feels like they exist only so that the author could tell us about some historical facts. Some of them are just random and completely pointless, not even having the purpose of a tool. And the story ultimately goes nowhere. If I had known more about the Koreans in Japan before reading this book, it would probably have been even less interesting....more

I couldn't relate to any of the characters. There was so much racism and misogyny. But on the other hand, there is no way that those characters in their place and time could have behaved in any other way. And it is masterfully written. I don't think it would be possible for me not to like a book related to Greek mythology. I would have liked this book if it wasn't related to it too, I don't think it would be possible for me not to like a book related to Greek mythology. I would have liked this book if it wasn't related to it too, but I think that connection helped me love it.
I like the retelling. It makes Circe more realistic. It gives her and other gods involved more personality. It was a bit frustrating when she kept being stupid, but if she was meant to be more of a person then it makes sense that she has her teenage-like phase too. I liked the backstory for why she turns men into pigs. And I loved the part where she says that men make terrible pigs....more
