“One day isn't your whole life. A day is just a day.
Letters to the Lost is a stunning story about grief, moving on, and seeing past the ordinary. It’s a beautiful coming of age story that gave me so many feels. I adored it.
Juliet and Declan couldn’t seem more different if they tried. They go to the same high school, but they don’t run in the same crowds. Declan is a bad boy, and Juliet is a good student, into photography, and outgoing. Or she used to be, until she lost her mom. Declan and Juliet first ‘meet when Declan is doing his community service and finds a letter at a grave. He can relate, so he writes back. This turns into a pen-pal relationship of sorts.
The letters. The emails. The communication between Declan and Juliet. That was my favorite part of the story. I loved watching them connect, trust one another, relate to one another, and start to fall for one another, without having any idea who each one is.
“Do you believe in fate? Sometimes I want to. I want to believe that we all walk some path toward something, and our paths intertwine for a reason. Like this, the way we’ve found each other. The way you told me the right story when I so desperately needed to hear it.

The connection that these two characters had was something. It just shows you that opposites truly do attract sometimes, and people are so much more than what they seem. I read Rev’s book before this one, so I already kind of knew Declan, but I loved seeing more of his story. His past broke my heart. The pain, grief, and responsibility he felt was crushing. And Juliet is also drowning in grief. These two needed each other more than they ever could have known.

I just have to make a note that I listened to the audio book of this, and Kirby Heybourne voiced Declan. Kirby also voices Josh in TSOT and let me tell you, his voice is magical. He doesn’t just narrate, you feel the characters through him. I can’t even explain it, he does an amazing job voice acting and I can’t recommend listening to this one enough. Brittany Pressely also does a good job voicing Juliet.
Brigid Kemmerer, if you haven’t read her, you need to. She has a new fan in me. I’ve loved both of the books I’ve read by this author, but this, by far, is my favorite. Moving, heart-wrenching, and gave me all the feels. Truly, my best YA book of 2018 and a must read! ...more

“We all push sometimes, just to make sure someone is on the other side, pushing back.

Gosh, I adored this book. The hero, Rev, is such a wonderful and endearing character. It’s emotional, sweet, and sucked me in from the start.
Emma Blue is a high schooler, a gamer, and a creator. In fact, she created the game that she’s currently playing. She’s going through a tough time right now with her parents fighting all the time, and sometimes she just has to get away. When she takes her dog for a walk to get out of the house, she meets a guy in a hoodie who the dog is taken with right away. She sort of recognizes him from school, but she doesn’t know him.
Rev Fletcher had an awful childhood and is still carrying it around some. He was adopted by two amazing people when he was a kid, but his past still haunts him. Or his father, to be precise. Both Emma and Rev are going through some difficult things, and they find solace in one another. It’s a strange sort of friendship at first, but soon, it becomes a bit more.
I loved Rev so much. His character gets all the stars. Seriously, he was pretty perfect. Emma on the other hand, I have to remind myself that she is just a teenager and humans are imperfect because some of the choices she made had me shaking my head. Overall, I loved them as a couple.

I listened to the audio book and couldn’t get enough. I enjoyed it so much. And after listening, I’m jumping straight into Declan’s (Rev’s best friend) book! I can’t wait to get more of his back story and I’m sure Rev will play a part in it as well!
I am obsessed with the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack, I mean OBSESSED. It’s been on constant repeat on my Spotify for months and I4.5 stars!!
I am obsessed with the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack, I mean OBSESSED. It’s been on constant repeat on my Spotify for months and I have tickets to see it on Broadway in May (YAY), so when I saw there was a book, I jumped in to read it. It was really fun to listen to the sound track as the book was playing, I just knew when each song would fit after being so familiar with the songs.
“I wish that everything was different. I wish that I was a part of something. I wish that anything I said mattered, to anyone. I mean, let's face it: would anybody even notice if I disappeared tomorrow?
Evan Hansen is a teenager who doesn’t quite fit in. So is Connor Murphy. When Connor is found with Evan’s letter, the one that he wrote to himself, it’s easy to fall to the assumption that Evan and Connor were best friends. This lie is so easy for Evan to keep going. It gives him something he’s never had before. A feeling of belonging. But Evan can’t keep up the lie for forever. Even though he does a lot of good and reaches a lot of people, he can’t stand living a lie. When the truth comes out, it’s hard to know what will happen with Evan.
Evan is someone I think a lot of people can relate to. I love this coming of age story. It’s beautiful, the story itself, especially the lyrics (PLEASE listen to this soundtrack- it’s epic) and I loved it. An important YA story with a message that is moving and an unforgettable read!...more
Poet X is lyrical, deep, and meaningful. I loved the way this book was written. It had a fantastic flow, the poetry was poignant, and Xiomara5 stars!!
Poet X is lyrical, deep, and meaningful. I loved the way this book was written. It had a fantastic flow, the poetry was poignant, and Xiomara's voice and character really shined through.
This is a story about a teenage girl who lives in Harlem. She lives with her twin brother, her father, and an overly religious mother. Xiomara isn't allowed to have a voice in that house. Her mother wants her to be close to a god she's not sure she believes in and feels that should be the focus of her life. Boys, poetry, anything meaningful to X is forbidden.
Her life is a struggle. Xiomara has a curvy body and at just 15, she is leered at by boys. She only has one boy she likes, but she can't really be with him the way she wants to be (overprotective mother). Xiomara's outlet is writing. Her poetry gets her through everything she goes through. Her words are powerful. And with those words, she not only expresses herself, but just maybe starts to change minds and hearts that she felt were impossible to change.
I listened to the audio version of this book, which was narrated by the author. Elizabeth Acevedo not only wrote a moving story, but gave a moving performance narrating it. If you're going to read this book, I can't recommend listening to it enough. I feel like I got more out of it hearing Xiomara's story and listening to her read her poems.
This is very much a coming of age story about a girl who doesn't feel like she fits. I loved that her entire story was told through slam poetry and it had such a great message. Poet X is a unique story I feel will stay with me. I can't wait to read more from this author....more
The Birds, The Bees, and You and Me is an important book for teens. It’s something I wish would have been out when I was that age3.5 stars
The Birds, The Bees, and You and Me is an important book for teens. It’s something I wish would have been out when I was that age. I could relate to Lacey Burke in a lot of ways.
Lacey is a high school student who notices something is wrong with her senior health class and goes to do something about it. Lacey is probably the last person who is qualified to answer questions about sex, being a virgin and all, but she has a very open mom who is a nurse and knows all there is to know about the birds and the bees. I loved Lacey and her mom. Their relationship was fantastic. My mom was a teen mom so growing up we were super close and had a similar relationship as Lacey and her mom.

Lacey has two best friends, Theo and Evita. Things get a little complicated there, as well. Lacey has a lot going on with her feelings for Theo, the way it will effect Theo, and choosing what she wants to do with her life. Music is everything to her, but nursing is something she’s passionate about as well. Lacey and her friends, the music, the locker of sex information, it’s all great.
This story focused on friendship, was informative, and gave the teens an open dialogue with each other and the adults in the book. I really enjoyed this one....more
Kasie West wrote another fun, witty, and sweet YA book with Listen to Your Heart. I listened to the audio version of this book a4 stars!!!
Kasie West wrote another fun, witty, and sweet YA book with Listen to Your Heart. I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator, Nora Hunter, did a great job bringing Kate to life.
Kate is a bit of a snarky teenager. She’s funny, though, and I loved her personality. While taking a podcast class in highschool, she thinks she will be doing behind the scenes stuff. Then, after her idea for a advice show wins, she is made to co-host the podcast. This is not what Kate wants. Not at all. Hosting is something her best friend Alana wants to do, not her. But she’s kind of stuck so she goes with it. Kate becomes the sarcastic sidekick of the podcast and people actually love her advice. If only she could give herself some advice
Kate develops a crush as the story goes on. A crush on Diego. I adored Diego from the moment I first met him. When the revelation about him was made (something I hoped was true from the start) I squealed in delight. The problem with Kate crushing on Diego, is that Diego is Alana’s crush and has been for a while. It makes things rather complicated.
What I really loved about this book was Kate’s growth. I loved that she saw herself in a new light after doing the podcast and saw that life outside of the lake- her comfort zone- did exist. She was a fun character and made me laugh. Then Diego. Gah! He was the sweetest. I just loved him. What I didn’t love so much was the Alana dynamic. It’s not that I disliked her, she just wasn’t my favorite. And towards the end she really annoyed me with the whole (view spoiler)[ Frank thing. It was obvious she liked him, but she was holding this torch for Diego even knowing that Kate had legit feelings (hide spoiler)].
Overall, this was an enjoyable audio. I’m glad I found Kasie West this year. Whenever I’m in the mood for a light and fun YA, she’s a new go to author for me....more

“Books, bringing people together.' That would make a good slogan for the library.
By Your Side is the second book I've read by Kasie West, and although I didn't love it quite as much as the first, it was still an enjoyable read.Â
Our story starts with Autumn, a teenage girl who is supposed to be going to a cabin with her friends for the weekend, but somehow manages to get herself locked inside a library for the weekend. For a lot of us, this would be a dream come true, but Autumn has anxiety and this is something of a nightmare for her. Thankfully, she finds out quickly she's not there alone. Dax, a guy from her high school is there as well. His story is much different than Autumn's, but he helps her more than he knows.Â
Though these two have a strange dynamic at first, they do become friends eventually. They learn a lot about each other being locked together in that library. When they get out, though... things change. Dax is back to his life, and Autumn is back to her family and friends. I wasn't sure how things were going to work out between them and I do wish that they figured it out a little faster, but I was happy with how the story ends.Â
I liked this book and give it 3.5 stars. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more by Ms West. I love her writing style! If you're a fan of contemporary YA, check this one out! ...more

On the Fence was my first book by Kasie West and it certainly won't be the last. I listened to this audio book, and it only took me a day or two to get through it. I found myself pushing play in all of my spare time. Honestly, it was a tad bit predictable, but still super cute and fun to listen to!
This book is about a girl named Charlie. Charlie has been raised by a single father and a few older brothers so it's not surprising that she's a tomboy. She also has a neighbor and close friend named Braden. Braden is like a brother to her brothers, but she has other kinds of feelings for him. She just doesn't think he feels the same way. Charlie changes and evolves during the summer this book takes place. At first, she feels like she needs to change to make guys like her. Then she realizes that she can be herself and that is just fine. I loved that she found herself and found a happy medium.
I loved Braden and Charlie together. I loved all of Charlie's brother (especially Gage) and her dad. Not to mention the female friends that she made. Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable read and I've already got another West audio book downloaded and ready to go! I'm sure I'll be going through the bulk of this authors backlist!...more

I’ve been in a huge YA mood lately, and To Be Honest really hit the spot. I listened to the audio book and the narrator was great. She voiced Savannah perfectly.

Savannah is a normal teen. She’s a little overweight, but it’s never bothered her. That is, until her mother went on a reality show for weight loss and everything changed in her house. Now, she’s being pressured constantly to eat a certain way. What I loved most about Savvy is that she could see beyond that and was able to stand up to her mom.
“News flash: fat isn’t a bad word, Mom. It’s the twenty-first century. I have blue eyes. I have blond hair. I’m fat. Literally nothing about my life is changed because that word is associated with my physical appearance. I’m sorry that someone taught you to hate yourself because of your body somewhere along the way, but I’m not going to let you pull me down with you.

I also loved the friendship aspect of this book. Grace was the best best friend and she and Savvy’s relationship was great. Also, Savvy’s relationship with her sister, Ashley was great. The romantic aspect of the story wasn’t the biggest part of the book, but GEORGE. Sigh. I adored George. I really liked how this one turned out. Overall, a fantastic YA book I would highly recommend....more

The one guy Bailey Rydell can’t stand is actually the boy of her dreams—she just doesn’t know it yet.
Alex, Approximately is the second book I've read from Jenn Bennett and I think I loved it even more than the first. Both of this author's YA novels have been huge wins for me. I hope she continues to write more of these charming, heart felt, and addicting coming of age stories!
Bailey Rydell moves across the country to live with her dad. She has a thing for old movies and is in an on-line group for like minded others. That is where she meets Alex. She's never met Alex, but she's got a bit of a crush on the guy. And he's from the same town her dad lives in. Once she's there, she does everything she can to find Alex (aside from telling him she is in California) and while doing all that, she meets Porter.
Porter is not a guy that Bailey would normally go for. He's a surfer, he's a bit cocky, stubborn, and all around just not her type. At least, that's what she thinks at first. It's plain to see that even though these two are opposites in a lot of ways, there are sparks between them. This leaves Bailey conflicted. Porter, the real guy she's falling for, or Alex, her online friend she's liked for a long time. This may be even more complicated than we know...
Porter was an amazing character. I loved everything about him. Though I had a hunch about the twist in this book, it didn't make it any less fantastic when it was revealed. I wasn't surprised, but I loved it all the same. Bailey was also a great character. Honestly, there wasn't much I didn't like about this book. It was all around pretty wonderful. I listened to the audio book and enjoyed the narration as well. One of my top favorite YA books I've read this year and one I'd highly recommend!...more

Memories: some can be sucker punching, others carry you forward; some stay with you forever, others you forget on your own. You can't really know which ones you'll survive if you don't stay on the battlefield, bad times shooting at you like bullets. But if you're lucky, you'll have plenty of good times to shield you.
More Happy Than Not is a book I have mixed feelings about. I absolutely loved the writing, adored many of the characters, but it made me so dang sad. Not in an emotionally beautiful way, but more of a depressed way. Even after finishing the book, I still feel sad about it. Still, there were lots I did like about it.
Aaron is our main character. Aaron is complex. He's a character I could sympathize with from the start. Ever since his father's suicide, Aaron has not been the same. But this goes so much deeper than we know. Aaron has a group of neighborhood friends with the most fantastic names. He also has his girlfriend, Genevieve, but still. Somethings missing. Or maybe it's someone. When Aaron meets Thomas, he is drawn to him. They become fast friends, but there are other feelings there. Feelings that Aaron has never felt before. Or at least, he doesn't think he has.
Thomas was an amazing character and a wonderful friend to Aaron. Even Genevieve was in her own way. The Leteo Institute, I don't know how I feel about all that. I won't go into specifics, but I wasn't a fan of that twist. It broke my heart for Aaron. I'm not sure how I feel after reading this book (aside from sad) but it did make me feel. And Adam Silvera is one hell of a writer. I'm looking forward to reading more from him! ...more

Rachel grew up with a single mother who was a nurse. All she knew about her father is what she read in magazines such as Spin. You see, Rachel's father is a famous rock star who she's never met. When her mother dies of cancer when Rachel is 17, that all changes. Freddy Ricks comes for his long lost daughter and knows he's got a lot of making up to do.Â
Freddy and Rachel have a tough time navigating their father daughter relationship at first. It's difficult for them both. Rachel has never had a father and Freddy has never been one. But they do their best to manage. There are many parts of this book that were emotional for me to read. My heart broke for Rachel, but I was happy with the direction her story took.Â
While this father daughter story line was going on, there was also a story of friendship between Rachel and her new roommate at school and a budding romance with a super sweet geeky guy. I loved all the different aspects of this book and how they came together to form one wonderful story. The Accidentals is a must read coming of age story that I recommend to all!...more

Taking the Reins is the first book in The Rosewoods series. I love a book with a good amount of YA drama, and this book had just that. It reminds me just a bit of the Keatyn Chronicles by Jillian Dodd in that way, and I’m addicted to that series! I can see this being one of those series I binge read because after finishing this audio book, I’ve already started the second one!
Brooklyn Prescott is new to The Rosewood Academy, an all girls boarding school for the rich and/or famous. She’s a junior in high school and is bummed about going to an all girls school. That is, until she finds out that Westwood Academy for boys is right down the way and the two mingle quite a bit. Brooklyn makes fast friends with many of the girls at school. There is also a lot of boy drama, which I love LOL! There is Brady, Dave, and Jared. There are things I like about all three but I gotta say- I’m rooting for (view spoiler)[BRADY! (hide spoiler)]
Taking the Reins is narrated by Ann Marie Gideon. This is my first audiobook by this narrator, and I thought she did a great job voicing Brooklyn Prescott. Brooklyn is a teenager, and even though I’m sure Ann is not, you couldn’t tell. She sounded like I imagine Brooklyn would sound. The audio book was high quality and this is one of those books I would recommend listening to over reading.

This book has two main characters/narrators. The first is Millie. Millie is amazing. She would have been my BFF in HS. Heck, in many ways, I was a lot like her in school. I loved how she was always positive, focused on friendship, and had dreams and goals of her own. I only wish I would have had the confidence she has at that age. The other mc is Callie. Callie couldn’t be more opposite than Millie. She is sort of a ‘mean girl, but Callie changes with time over the course of the book and becomes much more likable.

Both girls had a love interest in the story. Millie’s was sweet and wonderful, and I liked Callie’s love interest more than her a lot of the time. But as much as I loved the romance aspect of these books, the fact that Murphy focuses on positive female friendships at this age is EVERYTHING. That is the biggest focus within this story. And those are the relationships when you’re a teen that are important. I also love that the familial relationships are in the forefront of the book. Millie’s relationship with her parents, as well as Callie’s played a big part.
I loved this story so much. Once again, my only complaint is that it ended too soon. I wanted more. Thank you Julie Murphy for writing characters that are realistic, positive, have hopes and dreams, and ones that are relatable to all. I wish books like this would have been written when I was in high school!
My magic truth -- the thing that has changed everything for me -- is this : the body I have shouldn't change how deserving I am of my dreams.

How much did I love Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli?? SO FREAKING MUCH!!! And the main reason I loved it so much was Leah Burke. She is a boss. She’s my hero. I just fucking loved her! I liked her in Simon’s book, but she really shined in her own book. What I love most about Leah is she is unapologetically herself. She never pretends to be someone she’s not and she shouldn’t have to. She is awesome just the way she is.
I swear, people can’t wrap their minds around the concept of a fat girl who doesn’t diet. Is it that hard to believe I might actually like my body?

I loved the friendships in this story, and of course the romance. Honestly, I had no idea who Leah’s love interest would be. I’m so happy that wasn’t spoiled for me, so I’m not going to spoil it for anyone else! I was surprised, but it was perfect. I loved how different the two girls were, but how they just worked. College roadtrip, sketches, Harry Potter, and PROM. Need I say more?

And also a shout out goes to Leah’s mom. I flipping loved her. She was hilarious and she and Leah together were a hoot! My mom and I are only 16 years apart so we always had that fun, growing up together relationship, and I could definitely relate to Leah when it came to that. Their banter was great and I loved that they were both so open with each other.
“Of all the fuckin days… “Okay, please don’t say fuckin. She shoots me a self-conscious glance. “I thought we liked cussing. “We love cussing. But we say the fucking g. I don’t want to hear that apostrophe, mom.
Overall, this was a fantastic follow up to Simon. I recommend it to all of you who have read and loved Simon. Honestly, I would 100% recommend reading Simon before this. It could technically be read as a stand-alone, but it would be so much better if you read them both! If you’re looking for a fun, hilarious, quirky, and romantic YA read, pick this one up!...more

Almost Impossible is a sweet summer romance.I enjoyed reading this book, though I wished I would have not guessed the secret so early on in the book. “History is nothing. It can be recycled or thrown away completely. It isn’t this sacred treasure chest I mistook it to be. We were something, but history isn’t enough to keep something alive forever.
History is All You Left Me is my first book by Adam Silvera, and let me tell you it packed a punch. It was a compelling, heartbreaking, and beautifully written story.
This is the story of Griffin. It’s told part from present day, and part from the past. In the present, Griffin’s heart is shattered by the loss of his first love, Theo. He’s not coping well. Between his already present OCD and the strained friendship he’s had with Theo, it hits him hard. He doesn’t know what to do or who to turn to, but seems to focus on Theo’s current boyfriend, Jackson.
I had very mixed feelings about Jackson at the start. I didn’t know how to feel about Theo at times either. Still, by the end I liked Jackson a lot and the relationship he ended up having with Griffin. Theo was conflicting as well. The more I learned about his past, the more confused I was with how I felt about him. The only person I wasn’t confused about was Wade. I completely adored him. Favorite character of the book by far.
Back to Theo and Griffin. Some of my favorite parts of the story were the lighter chapters in the beginning about their past. The story of how they came out to each other and their parents warmed my heart. I loved Theo’s Star Wars addiction and Griffin’s Harry Potter obsession (I’m a huge fan of both).
I feel like this book went into directions I wasn’t expecting and I didn’t know how to feel about some of the revelations that occurred. So many times I was at a loss of how to feel all I know is that I felt. I don’t want to spoil things, so I won’t go on about these things that came to light, but some of them shocked me in a good way, and some in a not so good way.
This book was truly emotional and gave me a lot of feels, but for some reason it wasn’t a tear jerker for me. I was expecting all these tears, but for some reason they just didn’t come. History is All You Left Me is a heart wrenching story of first loves, grief, betrayal, forgiveness, and friendship. I haven’t read any other Silvera books, but I will be getting to that sooner rather than later!...more

Samantha Young has a knack for writing YA books. This is the second YA book I've read of hers, and it was equally as fantastic as the first. This book had so much heart. The poetry was stunning, it was character driven, heart warming, and an all around incredible read.Â
Comet Caldwell has spent most of her life feeling alone. She has two best friends, but sometimes she feels like a third wheel. And don't even get her started on her 'parents'. They never wanted a child and basically treat her like she doesn't exist. At almost 17, she's grown used to it. But she desires so much more. Her poetry, which she isn't brave enough to read out loud or share, is her solace. It's where she can freely express her self and just be Comet.Â
Tobias King is the new student of her class. He's from America and everyone is enamored with him. Even Comet. Tobias is handsome, elusive, and reminds Comet of one of her brooding book boys. Comet never expects for Tobias King to give her a second look. But he does. I loved the friendship/relationship that formed between Comet and King. They were so good for each other and brought out the best in one another.Â
My anchor, he pulled me back to myself, to him, and slowly, but surely, I began to breathe again.
Comet is a character I think a lot of us can relate to in some way or another. I loved watching her discover herself, stand up for herself, and grow as a person. This book definitely has some romance, but this coming of age story is so much more than a love story.Â
As much as this book made my heart happy, there were also moments that had me bawling my eyes out. I'm not sure why I was so emotional while reading, but it truly did evoke a lot of emotions from me. Young brings all the feels with this book! The Fragile Ordinary is the best YA book I've read this year, and one I would highly recommend!Â
What most people never learned was that sometimes what would make us happy the most also scares us the most. Sometimes being happy meant being brave. I aimed to be brave every second of every day.
